    Since I was a teenager, I loved to watch Billy's creations. He has been one of my inspirations to maintain a life of turning wrenches. Circa 2008 I was privileged to remove and work on a Typhoon carb that Jesse James put on the 50th anniversary Monster Garage chop with a 127 CI motor. He had his mentors do the build while he made the gas tank out of copper. The bike was my wallpaper for 66 weeks at MMI. I walked into New Orleans Harley Davidson and there the bike sat. Still blows my mind when I think about it. I had to hide my eyes behind my Ray Bans the day that it sold. Mr. Lane Keep on rocking and please keep sharing!

    • @BillyLaneChoppers
      @BillyLaneChoppers  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Thanks for being here, and for the good comments. What was gong on early 2000's drew a lot of people into the H-D service industry. The Typhoon, on a 127, definitely requires a ThunderJet for high rpm tuning. It's really just a glorified SU. Indian Larry told me, "SU is the first two letters of the word, "sucks'", in his Brooklyn accent with a laugh.

    Billy, great video as always and always informative... I run and S&S EVO and I get my custom drag car cylinder heads from RFD and I sent my S&S Super Stock heads pver there and they did a little work on them, and it helped. I have the S&S Super G and I tuned that and im thinking of putting a thunder jet on it now. The cam I put in it is an Andrews EV81 Cam, and the pistions I went to buttons instead of snap rings.. I kept it chain drive because it's a torque monster. The jugs and cases are S&S. The trans is a 5 speed Baker. Gold Finger built the bike originally and I had to go over the who thing.

    • @BillyLaneChoppers
      @BillyLaneChoppers  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know these SS heads can be improved, but I’m only running a medium cam & want street riding ability. I have bigger cam options, & can gain 5-10hp right there, but it’s plenty powerful now- @80hp. Big jump from 55hp

      They're not fun to ride with the bigger cams. Those bigger cams, for the 80" engine are only really good for wide-open antics. I don't street race. • @BillyLaneChoppers
      @BillyLaneChoppers  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Boyd's swingarms are pure art, designed by Little John Buttera for Boyd. Jesse James ran the CNC milling machine that made them. The S&S air horns are really hard to find. I had one from years ago, and sand cast several for myself. I made the one I took off.

    I pretty much had everything there, minus Typhoon, but had the forward swept Mikuni 42, 30yrs ago. I should have kept all that stuff. I ran the EV72 cam…she didnt like it. Prob should have gone 1 smaller like you.

    • @BillyLaneChoppers
      @BillyLaneChoppers  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Andrews EV72 is almost Identical to the S&S 562. Lift is the same, timing is very close, but my cam has a few more degrees of duration. Your Mikuni was too small for that setup. You needed a 45mm carb for those heads, for sure. The 45-degree twin is severely flow-limited, and the worst thing you can do to it is to choke off flow at the carburetor. The Typhoon is a lot of carb, but my arrangement here is just enough for that big feeder.

    • @BillyLaneChoppers

      The carb is enormous on the outside, equivalent to S&S Super G on the inside. There is only ONE jet in the constant-velocity carb, and the big piston inside regulates the venturi size.

    Pro tip if you do NOT have the instructions for the pushrods. . Before installing them.. screw 1 all the way in and measure with a dial indicator or calipers from tip to body WITH lock nut , the turn out untill you measure .100". Now mark your tip or body and count the number of rotations untill full compressed. Your welcome.
