I went on this tour several months ago. Kyle Irwin, who led the tour, is a national treasure, as far as I'm concerned. He's a master technician, an organist, and an amazing tour guide, all in one.

Jay Leno drove that Duesenberg on the grounds of the Burbank Airport with a police escort. He wasn’t even allowed to drive it on the streets because it is so valuable.
Also, the spare Duesenberg engine is work over $1 million alone.

Beautiful collection! I could watch this over and over. The iron frame (harp) of a piano is an American Invention, prior to that they were using thick wood to contain the tension of the strings.

Great song to end the video! I had no idea the museum was so musical. This is as close as I’m getting to the nethercutt here in Atlanta. Thanks for posting!

One of my favorite museums I grew up near there and used to go there all the time! Great video but I wish the photographer would’ve zoomed in more especially on the musical machines so you could get better detail, which is gorgeous.

The Old Town Music Hall in El Segundo California has wonderful playing example of a silent movie theater organ, they were open on weekends.. there's also the Southern California driving Museum, Zimmerman, just across Sepulveda... they actually drive people around the neighborhood in some of the cars, I believe they're also open for venues rentals... in the Miracle Mile area you have the Peterson, Southern California is rich in Automotive History...
We have so many wonderful organizations doing preservation, presentation in the Los Angeles area...

I have visited this wonderful museum twice. Once around 20 years ago and then around 15 years ago. It is the best car museum I've ever been to by a country mile (and I've been to several). But add in the orchestrions in the music room and you have for my money, the best museum of any kind anywhere on earth.
I'd go back every week if I could, but I live 6000 miles away in England!

Correction: Mr. Irwin said that the Nethercutt had won "6 Pebble Beach Best of Shows, 4 more than anyone else." This is just NOT true. Bill Harrah won 4 times. Sam Mann has also won 4 times.

Merle Norman probably had one of their original facilities on the edge of Inglewood, CA near LAX, I can remember seeing it as a child
    .. they're still a thriving business...

The 20 grand has 320 horsepower, which was 10 times amount of horsepower of the average car of its time. The car was purchased by the family in 1979 for around half a million dollars so I can only imagine it's worth today! A spare Duesenberg straight 8 supercharged engine would run you about a million dollars today so in my humble opinion I would put a value of 4 to 5 million on the 20 grand but in reality it's worth what somebody is willing to pay and if they want it bad enough it's the only one of its kind so in reality it's priceless

Of course the danger of using the words first, etc is that it opens up cans of worms... 1890-1891 Mr. Lambert of Ohio City, Ohio built gasoline powered cars. Elwood Haynes wanted to use the first US car title and worked out a deal with Lambert. So, best answer is that it's complicated... first gasoline car, first practical car, etc...

I love the cars but the music room is amazing 😮.
Why did they remove the thick plush carpet that resembled a lawn. 🤨

Can anyone imagine what the insurance cost is for that place? The old phrase "War Pension" doesn't even come close.

They probably have a Unbrella policy to cover all their assets. The premiums are quite low to due low liability.
