    Nice seeing the C6 back! Batteries are fundamental for new cars to run perfectly, even the smoothness in automatic gearboxes can be affected! Probably all the codes were caused by the battery, however, if those turbo pressure and maf codes persist, you might have a boost leak. I agree with you, diagbox is definitely the best tool for this job!

    C6s are very picky about battery condition, it's amazing what a new battery will sort. I leave my C6 on a trickle charge in the garage when not in use, as I'm paranoid about the nuisances from a low battery.

Then changing to Up’n’Down watching Kitch doing some *HubNut stuff on a rather larger Citroën. Did you know that my C1 and your C6 have something in common? Yes, it’s the **side indicators! The C6 is such a great car. I loved mine but am so glad I let it go. I too remember it being dead after not being run for a while so flat battery and pain to get in and change it and even after I decided to sell it for a whole £4,500 the main hydraulic pump went and the fans went and the cost to fix was over 50% of its then value. It’s still going though, I see pictures of it around and the buyer got a decent deal on it with some noice new parts on it. Glad I owned one love to see them but would not have another. Must have been great to own when new with parts available if cost was not a consideration.

    I am glad you were able to get it in the shop. When I bought my Honda Pilot, I went to the dealer and bought a valet key that has no chip or fob in it, so I could open the driver door which is the only one with has a regular key. If the battery dies, that is the only way to get inside. The battery is god on that SUV. You were lucky you left the bonnet open. Someone I knew had a similar issue of a dead battery, and I ended up crawling underneath the car and attaching the jumper cable to the starter so he could use his fob to open the door. Not fun! I am looki g forward to seeing your diag video on this gorgeous car. Cheers!

As an old git this made me think off at a random tangent of a couple of films, - 2001 and in particular the loving parody of some aspects of it called "Dark Star". If the C6 could speak it would engage you in a depressed discussion of French philosophy. Please ensure the ECU's never in charge of a thermonuclear weapon. My Renault Grand Scénic once decided to open one of its rear windows overnight, must be a French thing. There's also a fun game that can be played by opening all the windows, getting out, deadlocking it off the remote then seeing which windows auto-close. It'll usually be either be one or two (always opposite corners), or rarely three. Only once has it ever closed all the windows.

    I like the Renault Fluence these days - I was previously indifferent to them, one came in for a service, I worked on it, test drove it afterwards & warmed to them a lot. Nothing exotic, pretty straightforwards to work on - IMO an Avensis is a nightmare by comparison, heresy I know... roomy, comfy, tried & tested mechanicals - yeah, I like 'em now. I semi-like the C5/C6's - they can be feckety head melts tbh, there's always that whiff of coolant of them, the signature PSA pong of impending doom.
    Given the choice between relying on a C5/6 or a Fluence, I'd chuck my dice into the Fluence & live with the minor foibles of those. Dunno if you ever stuck one onto your dyno-of-dreams, but it would be interesting to see. How many horses are still in paddock of a 1.5dci that's had an unpampered existence?

    As I've mentioned before I had that 2.7 TDV6 in an S Type Jag, get it remapped, mine was kicking out over 600ft ib of torque it was mental! However what killed the car was eventually rust and electrical issues galore! All manner of things would go wrong if the battery ever so slightly went awry. Components and Sensors that where fine, would then fail when the battery would go flat. For some reason that car would go through a battery a year. no kidding. Not sure why! But I had the weird steering wheel thing happen in that car aswell as you are seeing here. Eventually it would sort itself out. The last straw was driving back from Lincoln and the battery decided to throw an wobbler, drove about 70 miles with constant BING BONG - radio would not come on, no air con... BING BONG it drove me insane all the way home! OH.. mine had strange gearbox issues as well (ZF 6 speed) I think previous owners thinking it was a sealed box, but then you get service kits for it soooooo - had mine serviced to no avail it was too late. It would BANG into gear and hold onto gears longer than it should. Enough for me to say BYE BYE.

    Car taxes are pretty good in Romania as far as you don't want anything over 2.0. It's all engine size based, but over 2.0 it's considered a luxury car and you pay disproportionately high. For a 2.0, in my city, you would pay 46 euro yearly, for a 2.2 you would pay 199 euro and for a 3.0 you would pay 543 euro yearly. Everything over a 3.0 is usually unaffordable for the regular people. A 3.2 would be 1170 euro and a 5.0 would be 1803 euro yearly.

Logic being that the clamp scrapes most of it off again as it goes on, leaving just enough of a film to fight corrosion, and giving it a nice coating underneath between the base of the terminal and the clamp. Then I just smear the remains at the top over the joint.

By doing that it just partially insulates the connections!!! Connect the terminals, THEN apply terminal grease with a brush, or aerosol type if you have it. Yes, there is a specific grease for battery terminals. Durite have a good product for this. The grease prevents moisture from combining with any acid solution that may find its way out of the area around the post, thus causing that powdery corrosion that forms. There is a terminal grease that changes colour to indicate any such problem, can't recall the brand. Excuse the rant but this bugs me to hell!!!

      @stevedull It is normally, yeah. On this one it isn't, hence I don't know how old it is. It's probably stamped somewhere and I just haven't looked hard enough (because it's not really important 😆)

    Maybe the passenger windows( which would be drivers side in France are designed to drop down when the battery is about to go flat so you can actually get into the car rather than locking you out ( as you found out when you tried to unlock the car on the British drivers side)French cars are quirky that way, I've had a couple myself.
    Just a thought!

    That’s an unhappy C6.
    Why are French cars so complicated it just blows? my mind. This is perhaps one reason. Why you need to drive older cars at least 1-2 times per week. They shouldn’t be left sitting around.
    I run my own shop in Australia I have a few cars in my fleet not as many as you do though.
    However I make sure that I run all 4 of my cars that I own for at least 15mins every week.

      It's not French cars, it's anything of this era with this level of complexity.

      @@UPnDOWN very true however i find French cars just that little bit more annoying to work on. Even with almost 15 years experience in the business. There will be some cars that come in like the C6 that have not been designed with any sense of serviceability in mind.
      Also most cars from about 1995 onwards are not made to be left parked up for weeks on end. They need to be moved around, started up & run. Otherwise seals dry up & as happened to you batteries die.
      As soon as i notice any issues with starting or the battery starting get dodgy I replace it immediately. I don’t wait for things. I’m a big believer in preventative maintenance that means I replace or repair things before they are due. I would rather spend 1-2 days throwing the kitchen sink at my cars knowing they are tickey Boo for the next 6mths than have to keep doing little odd jobs here & there. I hate that part for me it’s get everything done in one hit or I just keep procrastinating which then causes even more problems.

    Is there any reasonable justification other than pure political ideology for not just having the road tax be part of the fuel tax, I wonder? I cant seem to think of any pragmatic/practical reason, at least not off hand.

    • @Zadster
      @Zadster หลายเดือนก่อน

      1. I suspect people (well, daily newspapers) wouldn't stand for road fuel prices going even higher.
      2. Electric vehicles. If it were taxed at commercial charging points at diesel/petrol rates, people would just charge from home.

    • @GoldenCroc
      @GoldenCroc หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Zadster Yes, I was thinking of both those reasons, as well as a few more, but at least the second one wasnt an issue 10 years ago since there werent any number electric vehicles on the road to speak of.
      As for the first one, well it would be a fairer system for everyone, but I suppose you are correct in whats fair or not isnt very interesting to the genereal public either in comparison to "headline politics".
