I love this cover. Nemophila, Hanabie, Band-maid, Lovebites are all fantastic (i'm sure there are a dozen more i don't know, i listen to BM too much). Babymetal kicked down the door for Japanese female metal (so to speak), there is now so much fantastic female-lead metal coming out of Japan. Not meaning BM is necessarily a direct influence on any band, but they did blaze a trail that didn't exist a decade ago.
Su-metal will always be queen, but Mayu is definitely a gem. Nemophila is a good band, so if you liked what you heard here there's plenty of good recommendations in the comments. They are now down to 4 members due to Saki leaving. (She's a really talented guitarist.) The synthesizer and shamisen is in the original and is used as a back track here.
I love Nemophila! My second favorite band from Japan after my favorite band in the world, Band-Maid. Mayu has an amazing voice and they are all excellent musicians. If you want to hear some of their original music I recommend Rise, Ratei, Ama Te Ras, and Adabana.
Rise and Ratei are both great choices, along with any version of Oiran. Abi, you really need to check out Band-Maid as well... definitely their song 'Hate?'.
lol Bandmaid and Babymetal fans are always meeting in the comment sections due to their bratty little sister-band, Nemophila XD. It's like an extended family.
Nemophila is the best band out there! Watch some more... Oiran, Sieze the Fate, Dissension, .. basically anything.. and do it 'Official LIve'.. just sooo good!! They do a bunch of covers tooo, as you have seen, that are just sooooo much fun!!
I heard it regular speed but sadly in order to get passed copyright flags, I had to alter the audio. But when I reacted to it, it was normal. Sucks, I hate it when I need to edit like this. I sped it up by .1 so technically if you slow it down to .9 in the cogwheel, it SHOULD even out =/
@@Abigirl_Reacts Nemophila is not the type to copyright strike anything as far as I've seen. All of the other reactions are at regular speed, although some prefer to put an overlay to be safe. No big company behind all this, and all exposure is good exposure. Thanks for the reaction :)
In the "Megitsune" official music video (which I hope you react to one day) the breakdown has pig squeals/screams which Mayu did an AMAZING job replicating here! You don't hear the squeals/screams during BABYMETAL's live performance of this song anymore OR they are just not loud enough in the mix to notice. 🤘🦊🤘
@@cybercide283 100% :) Momo has the growl down, and as someone who was in a punk band for a long-ass time, pig squeals are easier tbh. They're done not by exhaling, but by constricting the soft palate, retracting your tongue, and inhaling into the nasal cavity. With growling you're lowering your register and relying on the 'false folds', an area just above your vocal chords to make that guttural sound. Both require talent/practice but a pig squeal is safer for the human body than growls which can damage you if you do it wrong.
The phrase. Is Never underestimate a woman (rough translation). The pig squeal is in the official music video from approximately 10 years ago. In the live version, they don't do it. They do a pause for the crowd in the live version.
🦊 ⛩ For my money, Mayu from Nemophila and Yukina from Hanabie are the best growlers in the business. BTW, it's neh-moh-fee-rah (ネモフィラ). Besides the fox masks, there was a lot of additional BABYMETAL merch in the studio that day. : ) Guitarist Saki is a big fan. Unfortunately, she left the group a short time ago, but they're continuing as a four piece. Hazuki is now the sole lead guitar, and she's also busy with KOIAI.
She does it to appease the copyright gods :) The dark arts of youtube editing demand a sacrifice as a trade to avoid the watchful eye of the of the copyright-strike overlord. (And the speed wasn't too bad, c'mon lol)

Another great band from Japan, I love them! The singer, Mayu, is capable of screaming and singing very well in all of their songs. In the original Megitsune there were "pig squeals" during the breakdown, which Mayu is doing PERFECTLY here 🔥🔥 I recommend their track "Adabana" for the complete Nemophila experience 🤘😎
Mayu has lots of wonderful textures to her voice. i know exactly what you're saying about the narrowness ; but she also has a really has a nice throaty sound she can turn on when she wants ... and when decides to lay a little rasp 🤌😍 -- it's actually _perfect_ for a lot of what they do. and while Tati from Jinjer may be my favorite growler right now, i think Mayu has my favorite screams.
That odd sound is an effect pedal on one of the guitars. So she's switching between distortion for the harsher sound, and the other effect. When they close-up on the hands, one of them is in synch with that sequence.
6:07 my favourite part ... Haraguchi-San reaction on Mayu. (Stolen comment from @Grington300: "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). This is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.) 🦊🤘
Mayu was deliberately making her voice smaller for this, because the Babymetal girls started out as actual children in 2010, and Megitsune was released in 2013. She actually has a lot of depth and versatility. You will have to listen to more of their work, preferably originals, to hear that.
@@Abigirl_Reacts One of the guitarists left the band earlier this year. Then recently the lead vocalists (Maku) developed a problem with her throat/vocal cords. 🖖❤
Nemophila ladies are an incredible band with now four members ( Saki left to solo carrer). They're songs are great and they're also the Queen of cover. They've love make covers and each time is a hit. Nemophila is born in 2019 They are. Mayu on vocal (she tried to learn guitar to be the next rhythm guitare) Hazuki is guitare ( Ibanez 7 strings guitare) Haraguchi-san is on bass Murata Tamu is on drums. Previous member was Saki guitar ( solo carrer and Mary's blood on hiatus) she left in march 2024. Saki is one of the most creative guitarist & very popular, she use a Killer guitar 7 strings and a Custom Marshall Amplifier.
@@Abigirl_Reacts Saki is the guitarist on the back of Mayu the singer, she's a second important role ( Saki is fluently bilingual Japonese-English). She was the overseas spokesperson and Mayu English teacher. For coverings Anglophone songs Mayu learn the lyrics in phonetics Saki was helping for the prononciation. She was a song writer for the band. So her departure was a bit shock for the band and the fans.
They did a lot of covers when they were starting, because during COVID they released 1 cover per week, and some are really cool and unexpected! For example "Given Up" from Linkin Park where she does the 17 seconds scream, or Niziu's cover of "Make you Happy", where she sings with a Kawaii voice! If you want to take a look at their original stuff, most of the reactor start from Dissension, or my favourite "Hypnosis"! As with Hanabie, for me are a bit of hit or miss: if there is too much screaming, i'm not really for it 😆
This performance in a small studio has sound quality issues, and the microphone levels are turned down, so the vocals may sound like they are strained. NEMOPHILA is highly regarded by many reactors, including musicians, so please don't judge the band based on just one song. Additionally, NEMOPHILA has several beautiful songs without screams, and even their intense songs have positive lyrics. I recommend "Life" th-cam.com/video/HFnEYhbEAqg/w-d-xo.html This is one of NEMOPHILA's signature songs, dedicated to the drummer who returned from maternity leave. When you turn on the captions, English subtitles will be displayed. It will surely change your impression of NEMOPHILA.
Hello from japan. If you want to properly appreciate vocalist Mayu, I recommend the live performance of "Change the World." This is a grand song reminiscent of classic rock and roll, where you can enjoy very powerful vocals.

Wait, Babymetal started in 2010, Nemophila started in 2019. So was your reaction to Babymetal in 2018? Because neither band existed in 2008, and Nemo didn't exist in 2018 either. I haven't heard anyone complain of having a Nemophila reaction video pulled.
This cover made me fall in love with Nemophila. Their own songs kick some serious ass and you should probably listen to their original music next, but also check out their Hanabie cover sometime! About the vocal differences, Mayu may note be able to hit the notes at the high end of Su-Metal's range, but I think Su would struggle with the lower range of Mayu's vocals if she were singing a Nemophila song. And Su would have to call in Momo to do the harsh vocals.

Hello my friend Abi!!!...Believe me this: You have to react to this Incredible Singer with the Most Insane Vocal Range of The World (7.5 Octaves)!!!....When I recommend Dimash to someone like you, sometimes they laugh and they look at me with that look that says "Have you gone crazy?...Nobody can sing like that"....And I smile and tell them "Do you want to bet your car?"...Of course after they hear him their faces say it all!!...Lol!!...They can't believe what they are seeing and hearing!!....So well, I want to invite you to make a reaction to this incredible singer, who is leaving all the experts with their jaws literally on the floor!!....In 2017, a 22-year-old singer from Kazakhstan, named Dimash Kudaibergen, was invited to participate in the famous Chinese program for professional singers called "The Singer"... In his first appearance, Dimash covered one of the most difficult songs in the world, a famous French composition called "S.O.S. D'un Terrien En Détresse"....Since then all this madness began on the internet, TH-cam and social networks worldwide and he is already considered the best singer on the entire planet... It is almost impossible to see a human being, being able to reach vocal ranges of 8 octaves, that is, the 88 keys of a digital piano, which allows him to reach all registers, both masculine and feminine, that is, he can sing as Bass, Baritone, Tenor, Contratenor, Contralto, Mezzosoprano and Soprano....You can see in TH-cam to all kinds of experts (Vocal coaches, analysts, singing teachers, singers, youtubers, reactors, etc.), who have dedicated themselves to watching his videos and verifying for themselves that what is said about him is completely true!!...In addition to all this, Dimash is capable of singing in more than 12 languages...In all his concerts worldwide, tickets are sold in just seconds, via the internet, due to the immense popularity he has worldwide!!....Anyway, I think you haven't met this impressive singer yet, so here is the link to the first song that Dimash performed in China in that year 2017, the song S.O.S., and if it doesn't bother you, I would like you to mention me as the person who recommended it to you!!...Warning: You have to be prepared for thousands of views, comments and new subscribers...The video It is more recent, so it does not have the millions of views that the first ones, but it is more complete, including an intro, subtitles in several languages and better audio and sound quality...th-cam.com/video/bDX3FhmyNac/w-d-xo.html
The day they posted this cover, is the day that I discovered Nemophila and fell in love with them! I would love for Nemophila to stand in for the Kami Band for a special show! You can find pro-shot videos from each concert on youtube and I know the whole Red Mass concert is on Facebook video. Luckily for us, BABYMETAL films all of their major concerts for DVD/Bluray sales and to use as official videos! LOL, this entire reaction I was waiting for her pig squeal XD. Mayu is great lol. So I just discovered shorts and was trying to catch up so to speak, one short per video I've made but I didn't realize you could comment on shorts and that you'd get notifications for them like regular videos. Did you get annoyed by all the shorts I recently released? (Thank you for feeling spoiled by my channel, I must be doing something right even if I'm also doing some things wrong! Haha)

Good fun reaction. The spoken line in this song is "Maidens should never be underestimated". Looking forward to more of your content. I think you might like Nanowar of Steel if you like really good music with really funny lyrics. Try "Norwegian Reggaeton" out for starters with them.
Nemophila, a really solid band formed from some wonderful players. However, not my favourite Japanese band (for the record, most people would think that Babymetal is my favourite Japanese band, but that's not true either). I am not going Kick Nemophila because I do like them, I just feel they had some early performance issues after formation. If I am not wrong (if I am I am sure you guys will let me know), I think Nemophila formed in late 2019. Which was particularly bad timing as unbeknownst to them, the world was about to go into lockdown and performing live was taken off the table and even practicing in one place was fraught with problems. I feel this shows in Nemophila's early performances and that it might have even sent them backwards a little bit. It took some time for them to find their groove post-lockdown and then they started to really rock it out. More recently, Saki, the excellent former Mary's Blood guitarist, suddenly announced that she was leaving the band. This has kicked Nemophila back a little, but I honestly feel that there is so much talent in this band that they will get past this and continue to rise to one of the premier Japanese metal bands. So, I don't dislike them, but they are probably my least favourite of the female Japanese bands (but they are still excellent).

In metal golden standard is 5 member bands. Drums, bass, TWO guitars and vocal. Why two guitars? While one is doing solo other keep on riffs so there is no "hole" in sounding. Moreover this enables some interesting possibilites (like harmonising, duels etc.) Nemophila started that way but at some point one of guitarist left so now they are only four i guess.

The first part of Mayu's screaming here shouldn't come as a huge surprise. It's a direct reference to something you'll hear on the original if you listen carefully. Mayu has a number of different voice modes she can use. What you hear here is the tip of her vocal iceberg, so to speak. A suggestion: Nemophila reactions generally survive ok. Copyright issues with them are much less aggressive than many other bands. You don't need to try so hard to evade copyright that you compromise the quality of your videos.

With growling you're lowering your register and relying on the 'false folds', an area just above your vocal chords to make that guttural sound.
Both require talent/practice but a pig squeal is safer for the human body than growls which can damage you if you do it wrong.
@@cryptickitsune1876 Yeah, I wonder why they toned it down for the live performances? It makes the breakdown quite brutal and even "more metal".
The phrase. Is Never underestimate a woman (rough translation). The pig squeal is in the official music video from approximately 10 years ago. In the live version, they don't do it. They do a pause for the crowd in the live version.
It's such a gangster line, I love it!
Guitarist Saki is a big fan.
Unfortunately, she left the group a short time ago, but they're continuing as a four piece.
Hazuki is now the sole lead guitar, and she's also busy with KOIAI.
I wonder if they'll get another guitarist soon?
@@Abigirl_Reacts Apparently, they're not looking.
@@Abigirl_Reacts Mayu is learning to play the guitar.

Quite the epic line!
Check your play speed on the Nemophila reaction video. Its way too fast. Their cover is a bit slower than what you got here.
She does it to help it from getting copyright blocked, so I am assuming she speeds it up after she is done recording.
She does it to appease the copyright gods :)
The dark arts of youtube editing demand a sacrifice as a trade to avoid the watchful eye of the of the copyright-strike overlord.
(And the speed wasn't too bad, c'mon lol)

@@Abigirl_Reacts No worries. Normally Nemophila are reactor friendly and you wont get copyright issues so good luck.
Hopefully this doesn't happen again!
Another great band from Japan, I love them! The singer, Mayu, is capable of screaming and singing very well in all of their songs. In the original Megitsune there were "pig squeals" during the breakdown, which Mayu is doing PERFECTLY here 🔥🔥
I recommend their track "Adabana" for the complete Nemophila experience 🤘😎
Thank you for the recommendation! ^_^
Thanks for sharing! Yea it definitely caught me off guard haha
That odd sound is an effect pedal on one of the guitars. So she's switching between distortion for the harsher sound, and the other effect. When they close-up on the hands, one of them is in synch with that sequence.
Oh that's awesome!
6:07 my favourite part ... Haraguchi-San reaction on Mayu.
(Stolen comment from @Grington300: "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). This is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.)
🦊🤘
Haha it sounds epic
She has a, what I would call, natural "rock" voice. Her talking voice is very, very close to her singing voice.
Oh I've never heard her speak, very interesting!
Mayu was deliberately making her voice smaller for this, because the Babymetal girls started out as actual children in 2010, and Megitsune was released in 2013. She actually has a lot of depth and versatility. You will have to listen to more of their work, preferably originals, to hear that.
Oh that's good to know!
👍👍An awesome cover. They are going through some difficult times right now, wish them well. Great reaction.🦊 🖖❤

Nemophila ladies are an incredible band with now four members ( Saki left to solo carrer). They're songs are great and they're also the Queen of cover. They've love make covers and each time is a hit.
Nemophila is born in 2019
They are.
Mayu on vocal (she tried to learn guitar to be the next rhythm guitare)
Hazuki is guitare ( Ibanez 7 strings guitare)
Haraguchi-san is on bass
Murata Tamu is on drums.
Previous member was Saki guitar ( solo carrer and Mary's blood on hiatus) she left in march 2024.
Saki is one of the most creative guitarist & very popular, she use a Killer guitar 7 strings and a Custom Marshall Amplifier.
Where is Saki now?
As with Hanabie, for me are a bit of hit or miss: if there is too much screaming, i'm not really for it 😆
I didn't know they did those covers, awesome!
I recommend "Life" th-cam.com/video/HFnEYhbEAqg/w-d-xo.html
This is one of NEMOPHILA's signature songs, dedicated to the drummer who returned from maternity leave.
When you turn on the captions, English subtitles will be displayed.
It will surely change your impression of NEMOPHILA.
Thanks so much for the suggestion!

Nemophila - "baby blue eyes" flower, "Rurikarakusa" in Japanese; grows in N-America and is appreciated in Japan (see "Hitachi Seaside Park").
The band was formed in 2019, originally as a "session" brought together by...
Mayu - the vocalist (ex- Lipstick band);
Haraguchi-san - (ex- HöLDERLINS band) bass, backing vocals, was Mayu's friend and colleague from Music College;
Tamu Murata - drums, backing vocals, one the most respected session musician in Japan (countless bands), with also her own original carrier; she's also the wife of Akira Yamaoka, musician/composer, known especially for his videogames OSTs, in particular for "Silent Hill";
Saki (ex - "Mary's Blood" band for a decade, "Destrose", and others), she's a "young sacred monster" in J-metal) guitar, backing vocals, and...
Hazuki (KOIAI "Dark Indigo" / Li-sa-X, Disqualia bands) - guitar, backing vocals; both, Saki and Hazuki have a lot of experience.
Unfortunately, Saki left the band in march 2024, after the Budokan concert, thinking that her contribution was enough after more than 4-5 years, pursuing her - successful - solo carrier; she became a member of L'Arc〜en〜Ciel band.
The band continues in the 4 members form, with Mayu starting to add guitar bits while Haraguchi-san's bass, and Hazuki's guitar becomes more prominent.

About the vocal differences, Mayu may note be able to hit the notes at the high end of Su-Metal's range, but I think Su would struggle with the lower range of Mayu's vocals if she were singing a Nemophila song. And Su would have to call in Momo to do the harsh vocals.

I don't have much to go off since I've only heard this one but I think I felt the same. They were ok, very different and interesting.
They have already overcome, and released new songs without Saki, and as for me, they have become better

In metal golden standard is 5 member bands. Drums, bass, TWO guitars and vocal. Why two guitars? While one is doing solo other keep on riffs so there is no "hole" in sounding. Moreover this enables some interesting possibilites (like harmonising, duels etc.)
Nemophila started that way but at some point one of guitarist left so now they are only four i guess.
I wonder why the guitarist left?

The first part of Mayu's screaming here shouldn't come as a huge surprise. It's a direct reference to something you'll hear on the original if you listen carefully.

Idk, I kinda hate having to change the audio. It's not a big deal for me because while I'm recording its in regular time but for the viewer, it can be annoying. Do you think it's worth putting up these edited versions on YT or not uploading at all and keeping the non-edited versions in patreon only?
Am I having a stroke or is the video sped up? And if it is sped up are you reacting to them sped up?
Hey buddy! You're not having a stroke! I had to alter the audio by speeding it up by .1 to get passed the copyright flag. However when I reacted to it initially, it was regular speed.
hablas español?
speed too too too fast
It was! Sadly I had to speed it up to get around copyright stuff.
oh yeah you need to check out Nemophila. The singer has some skills, she doesn't have Su's raw power, but she can go from screamo to melodic instantly.
I noticed that skill immediately. She does that switch so effortlessly!
@@Abigirl_Reacts React to a live song, this one is really good: NEMOPHILA / REVIVE [Official Live Video]. They do have lots of good songs and most are around 50/50 melodic/screamo, so you will see her going full steam.
