True Erra fan here who was indeed obsessed with Drift-Neon, Eye of God, and Snowblood.
Hands down and in a overall sense of the direction the band is going, House of Glass is the greatest song Erra has put out. This is trumping Eye of God for me and I mention that because Jesse said that was showcasing their signature sound and yet this album seems to be showing their ever-changing sound FOR THE BETTER [talking to Augment-only fans lmao].
Erra and the member’s musicianship is constantly growing and I’m all for that development!
Nevertheless, House of Glass STILL sounds like “ERRA” and the true fans will know what I mean.
I’m seeing House of Glass as the progressive evolving of Erra. I resonate with what you were saying on how the rhythms took the part as the chief principle of the whole song. It seems more accessible and approachable for the typical metal listener and yet listeners who play instruments can still point out the technicality which is obnoxiously there in the best way possible hahaha!
Love your reactions and reviews. ❤️

I agree with this being one of, if not the, best Erra song to date. I joined back in Augment days and Dementia is probably still my #1 but Drift was, as a whole, a banger of an album, flows almost perfectly for me. Was kinda lukewarm on Neon but these last few singles have been outstanding, Erra are on a real good path!

  • @adecakaship2486

I couldn't agree more, I was personally I fan of the older stuff because Garrison Lee(old vocalist) was a huge inspiration for me vocally back in the days. It was really all about him and Adrian Fitipaldes from Northlane for me at this time. But this song clearly has more "progressive metal" influence and it's a very nice change of pace, structurally they were getting a little too similar for my most recent taste, but I still enjoy everything they ever released. Nostalgia might be a factor since I follow them since myspace, there's bands like that I love no matter the changes they make.
Like Our Last Night for example, many people complain about them making those rock covers of pop songs, but I still enjoy them with their new more post-hardcore/alt-rock style with some pop influence, because I follow them since the very begining when they were heavier. All that to say that tastes cannot be discussed, sometimes it's how it is and even I can't understand why sometimes I hate something everyone love and vice versa.

Huge Erra fan here and this was so sick, completely not what I was expecting from them. Kind of blows my mind how I can listen to a new song by a band I've listened to for years and it be completely unpredictable and fresh sounding, as if I've found a new band - yet it still has the familiarity and my favourite bits of their previous work. Can't wait to see what else they release, with this and Snowblood sounding so different and both being amazing in their own ways.

7:00 that's really what I miss in modern Erra. Their older stuff from Augment, Impulse, and even their Andromeda EP were full of amazing rhythm guitar driven riffs that were accented by atmospheric leads. The rhythm was weird, yet all out heavy with a nice blend of chugginess, and the leads were atmospheric and complimented the heavy chords really well. But starting with Drift, they shifted their approach to just being one main guitar. The guitar does some really crazy and complex stuff where it's basically in itself, going back and forth between playing a lead and rhythm at once. But with it, the heaviness was replaced with technicality, and the atmosphere was replaced with melodic. Which, in my opinion, leaves everything feeling as though its a half-measure, where they want to do all of these different things, but never fully commit to it. This song, and Serpent Hymn are nice returns to form for me, where they found a formula that really works with their new stylistic direction.

I agree about the poppy chorus thing although erra's choruses never bothered me, but rather when there are more than 2 choruses in the song. I'm ok with cleans, but I find that the best metal songs are chorusless. There is a song by I'll be an Empire called Born From Nothing which I consider the perfect metal song (for me). It's a 6 minute song with no chorus and no repeating verses. It also has a nice long music break that is neither a solo or a breakdown. Sadly no music video for it but a reaction to it would be cool.

Since then, Ive listened to it a bunch more and now when I watch this, I am understanding what you are putting down when you say that the track sounds unique and set apart from the rest. I am an ERRA fan and have been since day one, and to me all their material is fresh af. But honestly really pleased about your review of this song. Its given me hope that ERRA is still ERRA, but that they are changing up their sound enough to given my ears something new. Good job!

I dig that they’re trying new stuff (real big Tool vibes here), and I hope they do well and keep gaining traction in the scene. I just can’t see myself listening to all of this new stuff for years to come, which is what I still do with Andromeda, Impulse, and Augment to this very day. Oh well.... :’(

As a fan of Erra since Augment came out, I have to say that I do like this song quite a bit more than snow blood, maybe not as much as eye of god. But overall, I’m not too happy with the direction they’ve taken as a band. Drift as amazing and I think that skyline was a great song to push the band forward with, but then they put out neon which doesn’t incorporate that sound at all and I hardly ever listen to that album (mostly cause of the production but I also am not a fan of most of the songs). I think these songs are better and the production is fantastic but it seems like they’re trying to push into the “Architectscore” sound and that’s kind of been done before. The tool riff in the middle (that is almost note for note the one from vicarious) is really cool tho and I hope the album has more stuff like that. The ending breakdown was also very sick with the atmospheric guitars. I’m hoping the album is just really good, even if it’s not the same erra I used to love, so that I can’t complain about the change in sound. I really didn’t like snowblood tho, just putting that out there.

Not huge on the song but cool they are changing things up a bit, I think the biggest change was Cavey singing, it was cool to see. The main riff just sounded like Doomsday tbh, maybe I'm not as big a fan of the band as I once was, I feel let down by their newer stuff consistently, wasnt huge on Neon, Eye of God was decent but still not big on it. The band feels a bit like Architects 2.0 or Architects with math metal parts. Anyways theres a lot I didnt like about the song but glad they seem to be growing in popularity, I'm happy for them

@@METALBIRB honestly I was pretty fan boy status over Aaron Gillespie at the time and I was very worried when that album dropped and I remember watching the headbangers ball video premiere for “In Division” and I was just blown away. Disambiguation battles define the great line for the title of their best album for me, depending on the day.
