Nice, everyone wins. Except the demons. They're dead.
Reminds me of my first HoMM3 maps I made. I put HOURS of work into them. Later maps I made ended up being a lot worse by comparison because I ended up streamlining the process rather than just letting my creative side splurge on every single inch of the map with detail. You can see why games like Dusk have such awesome maps compared to modern game maps. Although the graphics look good, the amount of mood set by lighting, and actual mapping is way better overall because corporations make more streamlined games.
Dang, thanks for playing my map. Elend here. Considering how convoluted the map turned out to be you really did good and remembered it well. It really is way too sprawling and sparsely populated. Should have been a slaughter map, but I was (am) too inexperienced to really polish the gameplay. One day I'll make a hurt_redux.wad maybe. Thanks again for putting in so much of your time!

My first thought on seeing the map name, haha. I found it especially funny because it seems a lot of the guys at id were NIN fans (I assume from the old E1M4 secret and Trent Reznor doing the music for Quake, at least.)
2:20 yes, it's sad. i think i'll learn to map, make a doom living room and put a whole gang of friendly pet baby cacos in it, and i'll call it "cute and cuddly baby cacodemons of doom". instead of weapons there will be treats for the babies and there will be no exit from the level.
They are "Melee Revenants" from Realm667. Check them out, they can be quite fun and surprising when used first time in a map. "Oh no, a Revenant and I only have a pistol. Wait, he dead already?"
hurt is such a wonderful map, putrid grounds is seriously such an incredible achievement for such a new mapper, the 6 months spent working on hurt were definitely well spent, and you can definitely see all the effort the creator put into putrid grounds, i know for a fact the creator of the o of destruction is gonna keep making great maps like this
In particular, that room is set up to give the enhanced cacodemons a great entrance. The ones at 22:00 look far more creepy and dangerous than the ones in broad daylight at the end.
2 minutes into this video and I already love the new enemies. After seeing so many upgraded versions of enemies, it's cool to see Revenant and Cacodemon downgrades. And they really fill a different niche in the demon rogue's gallery.
I like the way this map handles darkness, in some of the commercial levels everything gets so dark you can hardly see anything without light amplification, here it gets dark like that but there are enough points to illuminate the walls but still keeps the athmosphere that comes with darkness.
I have actually watched a Doomtuber called Martinoz playing this super good-looking Wad 2 months ago using Project Brutality 3.0 and I was wondering if Decino would ever come across this Wad. So he did and I was attracted to this video like a magnet🧲 . Btw the unarmed Revenant was one of the thing of this Wad.

Having spent hours playing Hurt yesterday, playing cautiously, and still dying multiple times, the difference in our skill levels is truly humbling. The way you dance with revenants is pure art. Well played, sir.
I love the look of this map, goes to show what color lighting can do to enhance even the drab textures of Doom 2. I also like the ambience music, just needed the Playstation/Doom 64 sound effects to tie it all together.
Absolutely stunning. I'll go out on a limb here and say this is the difference between a map maker making wads, and an artist. One of the best looking maps I've seen (or remember seeing), from over 5,000 wads.
After watching those baby cacodemons I thought if Uncle Decino has taken notes about demons biology and their reproductions characteristics. A video portrayed by Sir Decino Attenborough describing it? "And after such a long journey we reach the nest, where the magic and miracle of life in hell happens..." ( Open crack on goat's skull spits a box) "there you have it an unique scene no one else can see in any other place in universe..." (Born imp groans )
I see what you're tryin' to do with GZDoom, text scaling and playstyle, all Boom-like, now if only you could be able to change the amount of HUD lines displayed to 1..... There is a Mod where you can pet Cacodemons and then they help you. I don't remember what it's called but it's by a person named Marisa, so you should be able to find it.
This level fan-made is my favorite by far! Love the custom enemys and design for this map as well! Those Red Core enemy things remind me of facing them all over again in Z-Pack Doom! Fantastic job here and Amazing job for elend as well! :)
This is a sensational map! I am rarely impressed by Doom maps, but this one just breaks all records. Beyond its awe-inspiring statement of talent, ingenuity and creative imagination - it is highly inspirational for a mod-maker of any level. This is something you not only play repeatedly to enjoy, but even more so - observe and learn to become a better modder. I generally say that every high-tier Doom map always offers something to learn from, even if you don't like the map per se, yet "Hurt" is something else entirely: it encompasses the scope of a master-class seminar that even a dozen of lower tier maps can never aspire to achieve. This, is not how you make a great map, - this - is how you make a great game. Take note, Carmack, Romero and "Weed Software", you could never approach even a tenth of this. And you still can't. Technology and other whirlygigs or not.
Those devil's sounds remind me of PSX Doom. The imps are making those sounds in that game. Congrats on reaching 100k subs and careful decino, you are starting to have feelings for some of the monsters.

This is an amazing map wow. Also to be honest i think the action was kept at a minimum on purpose to give it a spookier and alone vibe, less distraction to it's amazing architecture as well. The reason they couldn't build maps like this back in 1993 was because of engine limits hardware limits and also doom ed was probably limited as well. Amazing, also baby caco's r.i.p ):

I could be gifted master level knowledge of making doom wads and couldn't do this good with map design even after 238 maps created. This is unreal the creativity!
This is the best looking Doom map I've ever seen and I'm not talking about gzdoom's effects. Also, some tilted surfaces and a broken column you can "climb" through gave me Build Engine vibes
It's truly unbelievable to see this kind of graphics and great atmosphere on such an old game engine. While watching this video it reminded me of Doom 3 and Diablo 2 in that regard. Just imagine what this map would look like in 4K with realtime raytraced lighting, fog and shadows 🙌
This is such a great map. The aesthetics are beautiful, and the action is great for the bad player I am. The only thing that sucks is that the size of the level *hurts* my computer

GZDoom fixed the bug that prevents the Ouch face from almost never appearing in vanilla Doom, so it's more common when using this source port.

You can always input a console command for a friendly cacodemon.
The hud is under the same scaling options.
