    Hey Tim! Great to learn from you! If in case I didn't get to tell you about the Akaso action cam that I got, it wasn't good. Very grainy. I got my money's worth. 😅 The GoPro is so sharp!

      Hey there Hannah! Great to hear from you ! Unfortunately you get what you pay for with action cameras. My first one was a dodgy one I got off eBay. Never again ! Glad to hear you like the new gopro too. It's a very good camera amd I'm having lots of fun with it so far. Thanks for watching and take care

    The question is how important is the linear with horizon lock. You can get that extra smooth stabilization with 8:7 unfortunately. Im debating whether to shoot 16:9 to use linear lock or 8:7.

    • @AdventureTimMedia
      @AdventureTimMedia  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Garrett! Thanks for your comment. Linear with horizon lock is really most beneficial if the camera is moving - ie trail running, mountain biking, surfing - although I personally use it a lot in my own videos. The bigger question is if you want to use the same piece of video to make vertical content or just 16:9. if you are shooting for tiktok or reels then def go with the 8:7 otherwise can you still tell yoir story with 16:9 ? I hope thus helps

    How to do video record in action camera 1:1 ratio?

    • @AdventureTimMedia
      @AdventureTimMedia  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey @SopatherSes ! Thanks for your comment. The Hero 11 and 12 both have 16:9, 4:3 and 8:7 for their aspect ratios. The 12 also has 9:16 .
      To get 1:1 you would need to crop your footage to that size in post production. If I was you I'd choose to film in 8:7 and then crop it later. That way you wouldn't have to crop as much of your footage. Hope this helps. All the best.

    It ads even more versatility to the camera! great video! what protune settings are you using. the image looks really good!

      hey Jaime, Thanks for your kind words. I shoot nearly all my videos at 4K, 30 or 60fps with a Linear ( Horizon Lock) Lens.
      I use Standard Bit rate, Auto shutter, -0.5 EV, Auto white balance and normally an ISO 100 - 200 ( daytime). I hope this helps.

    Question is there a con recording in the 8:7 ratio and crop them to a 16:9. Does it look exactly the same as recording in a 16:9 ratio? To be more specific does a 16:9 Clip from 8:7 ratio lose some quality compared to an actual 16:9 ratio?

    • @AdventureTimMedia
      @AdventureTimMedia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gerardo. Thanks for your comment. If you film in 8:7 and then crop it to 16:9 it it should look as if you filmed in in 16:9 all along.
      However it does depend what lens you are using.
      If you were using Hyperview or Superview - which compress the image to make it fit the format. - then it will differ and will have a fish eye look,
      However if you shoot with Linear or Linear with Horizon, as they are not compressed to fit the frame, it should look exactly the same.
      If you were filming at 4K or 5k using the latter lens, there should be minimal quality loss.
      I hope this helps.
      All the best.

    Hi Tim, excellent video. I have two GOPROS and I love them, a Hero 8 and a Hero10, obviously they don't have an 8:7 aspect ratio, but I'll wait for the new Hero12 to come out. I do instagram reels. Is 4:3 (without turning the camera 90 degrees) the best aspect ratio for 9:16 cropping? And at what resolution should I record, 2.7 or 4k, so as not to lose quality? Thanks and greetings from Buenos Aires Argentina..

    • @AdventureTimMedia
      @AdventureTimMedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Leandro, Thanks for watching and your kind words. Always glad to chat to another lover of GoPros like me! lol. 4:3 would be the best ratio for doing instagram reels with those versions of GoPro. In post production - or the editing phase - you may need to crop your shot a little, but overall, that would be the best option. 4:3 is deeper shot that the 16:9 ( as in it covers more pixels vertically ). I normally record in 4K/ 60 fps unless I am doing lots of slow mo - which is rare - and in that case I may use 2.7 for the higher frame rates. So to answer your question I would say go with 4K. I hope this helps. Hope things are great for your in your amazing city!

    So if I understand this right, 4/3 or 8/7 will give me more vertical headspace than 16:9 will, while being as wide as 16:9 because its using the full sensor.
    So the real benefit if I want 16:9 footage, I can set it to 16:9 in post, and if I miss my subject by a little bit in the vertical axis (this is common in FPV drone flight), I'll be able to adjust up or down in post to compensate a little bit in stead of losing the shot. Correct?

      Hey mate, you got it right ! The 8:7 gives you the versatility to use you footage in whatever format you choose once you put it into post. I can see how this would be very useful when using the gopro as part of a drone. What's your channel link? it would be cool to see your gopro drone footage?

    How do you crop it for IG/TikTok?

    • @AdventureTimMedia
      @AdventureTimMedia  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Conor! If you film it in 8:7 aspect ratio, you can then crop it or adjust the size in your video editing program or the gopro quik app. I use Filmora Wondershare for most of my editing and it is really easy to make these tips of edits in this program. I hope this helps. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching!

    How does 4:3 compare to 8:7 for reels etc?

    • @AdventureTimMedia
      @AdventureTimMedia  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey tan ! Top question. 8:7 just let's you have a bit more space to work with when you are editing and has a bit more versatility for mine. 4:3 is still impressive though.

    So to take advantage of the 8:7 ratio do I just add the 8:7 footage to filmora set to an aspect ratio of 16:9 ?

    • @AdventureTimMedia
      @AdventureTimMedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Ducati Ninja, thanks for your comment. If you import your footage into filmora ,drag it into the timeline and then right click on your footage to bring up a menu. If you then scroll down to Crop and Zoom, you can select 16:9 from the 'Ratio' drop down. Move the footage around if you wish and then hit OK. I hope this helps.

    Where is the 5.7 K recording setting?

    • @AdventureTimMedia
      @AdventureTimMedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Julio. Thanks for your comment. The highest resolution on the GoPro Hero 11 is 5.3K at 60fps which you can use in the cinematic, activity, full frame, ultraslow mo and standard video modes at 16:9 aspect ratio. If you are shooting at an aspect ratio of 8:7 - using any of the modes mentioned earlier - then at 5.3K the highest frame rate you can have is 30fps. I hope this helps. All the best.

    But doesn’t 4x3 use full sensor?

    • @AdventureTimMedia
      @AdventureTimMedia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Droning Judah. Thanks for your comment. On previous versions of the gopro - up to the Hero 10- 4:3 aspect ratio was using the full sensor. However with the Hero 11 it has a different aspect ratio of 8:7 which is using the full sensor of this camera. This new aspect ratio means you capture 13% more vision than you would if you were shooting at 4:3. I hope this helps.

    Hate the 8x7 took ages to get ride of it...

    • @AdventureTimMedia
      @AdventureTimMedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jaffa Kat. Thanks for your comment. I think the 8:7 can work well in the right situation - and esp if you want to use it for horizontal and vertical content - but my normal preference is 16:9. If you get stuck with 8:7 again in the future, just click on the oblong at the bottom of the rear screen ( when in video mode ), tap on the pencil, select RES/FPS and select the right aspect ratio for you. Hope this helps.

    Edges look blurry and auto focused when shotted at 8:7 and converted to 16:9

    • @AdventureTimMedia
      @AdventureTimMedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey MaoriFpv. Thanks for your comment. I didn't notice any blurriness in the footage, it looked ok to me. It is using the full frame at the same fps and resolution as if it was shot at 16:9 so is interesting you thought that. I'll look into it though. Thanks for watching and all the best to you.

    • @AdventureTimMedia
      @AdventureTimMedia  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Crashoverride1234! Thanks for your comment. The 8:7 ratio does have a slight fisheye effect as it uses a wide angle lens. Unfortunately that is the only lens you can use when shooting in 8:7. Hope this helps, and thanks for taking the time to check out my video. all the best
