This port, right here, is why community emulation is so important.

The GameCube version was my first OoT experience, but that was a very long time ago now (Christmas of 2003) It's crazy to think that the emulation experience on the Collectors Edition or Master Quest disk is far better than the one on Nintendo Switch Online, ESPECIALLY after 18 years from the GC release.

The stretched widescreen capture may have to do with the Wii's output. IIRC, even when set to 4:3 the Wii is outputting a widescreen signal of 720x480, so that could be throwing it off (switching consoles with different resolutions could be confusing it too).
Still very sad to hear about this version. It really had the potential to be the definitive way to play this game and could open the door to expanding the community, but Nintendo had to Nintendo it up. Maybe some day we'll see a Nintendo where "quality" has meaning again.

When Nintendo did the Wii U VC, the person who was responsible for much of that specific emulator work had left the company, and they ended up just using the same version of the emulator for everything and patching stuff in with LUA scripts.

And to me that's one of the largest parts of this entry in the series. @Walther Pennethe fog was fine when the GameCube was emulating Ocarina of Time. It's not an fps issue and nobody else is even attempting to make that argument.
By the way, they are releases of the game. Each time they release this game it's a different situation. On the GameCube it's an N64 emulator they built for the GameCube and modified specifically to run Ocarina of Time.
On the Wii they released each N64 VC game with its own specific tweaked version of the emulator.
On the Wii U they just used one version of the emulator for every game, which led to poor quality N64 emulation in comparison to the Wii.
On Switch they're doing much the same thing as the Wii U.
From your other bizarre comments on this video you clearly don't have the technical knowledge to claim the Switch can't do fog effects.
The Switch GPU is based off NVIDIA's PC GPU technology, and that can handle this room without too much issue. Hell, hacked Switches with a community N64 emulator can handle this room in Ocarina of Time.

Same issue with Wii U as far as I can tell, I tested Bomberman 64 and Sin & Punishment on Wii U (through CRT no added lag) and noticed less input lag than other games on VC, they also are a bit overclocked.
I'm going to compare to switch when I get a chance, but compared to original N64 it's about 3 or 4 frames of lag on those two games specifically, not the 6+ like with SM64 and Zelda. Movement accuracy (deadzones) is still a bit off though.
A lot of people are just testing Zelda as a comparison ( I get it why) from what I understand all games use the same emulation unlike WiiVC so some have better compatibility than others, it's ok in some cases and great with a few games despite the filter (just change the TV settings and it can look decent) and a frame or two of added lag.
Yes Wii VC is generally better, and original hardware or open source emu is still the best I won't even try to argue otherwise, WiiU VC probably still isn't worth it even at $10 per game.

    @aurafox1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I really don't notice the input lag at all. I'm not exactly a speedrunner, but I think it's been grossly exaggerated. A speedrunner will definitely notice, and I don't doubt it's there and incredibly frustrating to work with. But the way people were describing it made it sound like the control lag was akin to N64 emulation on the Wii U. It's nowhere near that bad.
I play randomizers a lot with Project 64 and tried out this version coming right off of that, I literally wouldn't have even known the game had control lag at all. This version is absolutely fine for casual play. Sure, it's not the definitive version of the game, but it's the most easily accessible. If someone has never played OoT before, they're not even going to notice any of these differences. If this version is someone's first experience with OoT and they don't enjoy it, I seriously don't think putting the original in their hands is suddenly going to change their minds.
Why is it like this? There's a short answer and a long answer. Take your pick. The short answer is that Nintendo doesn't care about old games and just want to make them available on modern hardware so people shut up about asking for them. The long answer is that Nintendo acknowledges the importance of keeping legacy games accessible and this is an easy solution that doesn't require investing a bunch of time, energy, and money into perfecting a game from nearly 25 years ago. Even if it's their greatest, most famous title of all time. Keep in mind this is the same company who's developing the *next* Zelda game. And each one, I'm sure, they hope will be *better* than anything that came before. That's where all that time, energy, and money that could've gone to this port is going. Into BotW2.
"Why is it that fans can do it better for free?" Because they're fans. They love the game and find value in perfecting the game they love. They also don't have to choose between perfecting OoT and making a completely original game. They leave game development to Nintendo and focus instead on optimizing what they already have. Those that do take the route of developing new games, such as Rom hackers or developers of fangames, surprise surprise, aren't also developing their own emulators at the same time.
"Stopping defending/licking the boot of the million dollar company." First of all, maybe I just like the flavor of leather. In all seriousness, I'm really not a bootlicker for Nintendo at all. I like some of their games and don't care for a lot of them. I also haven't shelled out a single penny for N64 online. The only reason I even have access to it is because my brother was interested and split the money with his friends and I happen to be mooching off of his Family plan. I was personally absolutely repulsed by the absurd price tag. There is no excuse for the expansion to cost so much when the emulation is clearly low budget and the online barely works. The only reason the price can even remotely be justified is the Animal Crossing DLC being packaged with it, DLC for a game you might not even own but *have* to buy with the N64 expansion. No thank you.
So no, I'm not angry about the quality of the emulation. I'm angry at the price it's being sold for. You can't give it bargain bin effort but sell it at a luxury price.

I don’t have any of these problems on the Switch version… I just don’t see it. Then again, I don’t do glitches but the joy con is super sensitive, that I’ll agree with. I just don’t understand getting bent out of shape because glitches don’t work on a certain version, why not let people enjoy it who actually enjoy it and play it the right way?
That’s the end of my rant. Love ZFG and all he does in the community but this just rubs me the wrong way. I didn’t get any of the dark link muddy water effects either.
