    This is the reason when tenants complained not enough rental in the market. Landlords would rather sell or keep vacant. No support from Government.

    wow shoe got a hearing in 5 months? I had to wait 9! it I filed in august as well and I am still waiting, the LTB should be under investigation because at this rate Its hard to convince me that they are NOT trying to drive landlords out of the business

    I would never become a landlord unless there is an immediate eviction law in place that I could have them out before the end of one month. It's too risky financially if it means a lengthy court process and then a cleanup fee. There should also be a credit report or something that flags potential renters as a problem if they have a history of unpaid rent and damaged property. I also think we should be more like Japan where a 6 month rental deposit is required in addition to a damage fee.

    tenants not paying rent and should not be allowed to stay in the apartment more than 3 months and should be evicted- they can go to the government shelters. Change the laws to favor the landlords who have bad tenants

    I would never invest in rental housing in Canada. No wonder there's a rental housing shortage there. Canada is a terrible place to be a landlord. There are numerous other better places to invest in rental housing.

    I am facing this turmoil after my tenant damaged my rental property to an extensive proportion.
    The tenant was an advocate,who dragged me to the courts ,the case is going on in the courts of Bangalore in india since last two years.
    Disgusting mindsets of tenants.

    This is why I do ETF dividend investing. My brother had his house trashed twice. Did not get a cent from the damages by the renters.

      Me too. I also invest in a REIT within my TFSA, receiving monthly rental income every month tax-free, while avoiding all the headaches that come with being a landlord. My REIT has professional property managers to deal with all of that.

    There should be an insurance for landlords that tenants need to pay. Same as a rental car company requires you buy insurance or show proof of insurance incase you damage a rental car or steal it for an extra few months past the agreement without paying

    now the landlord needs to put there things in storage for one month on his dime. :-(. for not paying rent, the 10 day eviction notice is all that should be needed.

      Where I live, landlords have to pay for tenants storage fees. We can’t throw their things out if they abandon them.

      @fofal When landlords sell, they will sell those who want to buy and occupy because nobody wants to buy for rental purposes. That means less rental property and higher prices. Economics 101 = when demand is higher than supply, prices go up.
