What a wonder is this often overlooked lady of the arts, perhaps sidelined by some cultural attitudes, problems, the racist, antifeminist, anti-jazz cultural negativities. Dorothy is still, and was, a stunning and warm entertainer, performer, artist, heroic individual, above so many otherwise quite well deserved figures. Bravissimo, and again.
I just recently got turned on to Ms. Dorothy. She is life! What a soul - I feel blessed to be able to listen and watch her. Thank you Ms. Dorothy for sharing all of you ❤💜❤
I have only discovered this fabulous woman who not only plays the piano with her busy hands, but with her heart and soul and whole body. I LOVE how she looks at "her people". She has them eating out of her hands wanting more. SYLVIA -FL 06/18
So much mastery ,so much power in those fingers. I think that I have fallen in love with Dorethy, I know that it’s one-sided but I don’t care. You could hardly say that she doesn’t reciprocate? The lovely soul sound’s that her jazz playing emits. Say’s much more than words alone.?!!!
I love how on the first number when her bass ran out of improv...she picked up his last pass, and said, musically" Let me help, and teach you baby". #THEBEST
Just how do you explain Dorethy Donegan !!! Phenomenal ! A one off !. A beautiful lady of jazz !. All of them , so know is I would have followed her anywhere that she would take me just to listen to her play the piano. Dorothy was the news knees , the cats pyjamas . You name it that Dorethy Donegan . Does anyone know her real name !!!. I'd like to think that she was Irish . Lol .
This lady and her exceptional mastery of piano should have gotten together with James Brown on an album and made it too funky in here! I'm here for the afternoon!
Alan - Where did you find these? Looks like one of those days when she was containing an exploding brain with a wig and two hats.... "These Foolish Things Remind Me of You" is one of the best in her repertoire and she usually played it to signify to someone there.
She was unknown to me till very recently, I think she is way to little known besides the (male) masters of Jazz piano... 3:28 - I know the song, but don't know the title, can anybody tell?
Фантастическая пианистка, ломающая дурацкое утверждение, что женщина-инструменталистка не может играть джаз. Да ещё как может! Обожаю Дороти! Она чем-то напоминает нашу Фаину Раневскую...

One of the all-time greats.

She got the gigs! Master piece by one and only lady on jazz! Her muzik will still remain.
Greetings from Jazz man, Kuala Lumpur.
An endlessly fascinating artist!

Extraordinary she was! Queen of the keys🔥🔥
Oh boy she is HOT in the true sense of jazz!!! What a blessing to us!
I will always love and honour you Dorothy! You deserved a lot more..
I think that Dorothy Donegan belonged in the company of any great pianist that you can mention bar none!
What would give to have been lucky enough to have a ticket to that concert.
She could literally do anything on the piano and outplay just about any other pianist. Watch her in the 1945 Movie Clip with Cab Calloway!
Впервые Ее вижу, сколько ж ей здесь лет ? Классная 👍👍👍
That bass player ain’t no slouch. I so love the humour in jazz.🌹j.
One of the best, maybe the best I HAVE HEARD
She’s amazing
Dorothy shows us that just like Barry Harris always says, form is everything. I've extended it to, " form and formula is everything."
Go girl go ! So so great dynamite

+William Gray Harris I think one hat was to keep the sun out of her eyes and the other for "style".
She was unknown to me till very recently, I think she is way to little known besides the (male) masters of Jazz piano... 3:28 - I know the song, but don't know the title, can anybody tell?
Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin
Nice bass solo at about 11:20, anyone know the bassist or the rest of the band?
I dug up a bit and figured that the bassist was Jon Burr. Not sure who the drummer was. Let me know if you find out.
Thuy Uong THANKS! I’ll have to look up some other stuff he did.
C’est Jimmy Wood qui a joué avec les plus grands comme Duke Ellington , et ,à la fin, Lionel Hampton.
Does anybody know the title of the first music? I know the tune but not the title.
These Foolish Things
Decidedly an Ubermensch. ❤🌹j.
05:15 Bernard Purdie?
Great technique and swings like mad. That’s Oscar Peterson territory.
What's the second song that she's playing?
I think it's "I'll Remember April"
Art Tatum said she made him want to practice
.
I remember April at 9:30

Она чем-то напоминает нашу Фаину Раневскую...
The trauma of black people. She has to look at the same faces that use to throw rocks at her
He’s a bit of a show off, nicht wahr?
