    Are you thinking of doing an updated review of O'Douds water-based pomade since he updated his scent and hold ?

  • @Art2D2
    @Art2D2 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Mwahahahaha
    James, now you know why I've been mentioning this pomade everywhere. I'm obsessed about it for good reason as you've just shown. And I actually do need the hold to be really good. My workplace is hectic. I go through the gauntlet with extreme heat, extreme cold, constantly bending over, objects whacking past my hair, and even wind due to a big air conditioning machine by a doorway. I go through literally every worst case a pomade would ever face, just about every day. And this pomade survives and can be remolded after all of that. Especially with its build up... But I would have to use a mild shampoo for it to be a clean build up, as water alone doesn't do anything.
    Oh by the way a tip I read somewhere before, for using this product, is that we are to apply the product without entirely breaking it down. It's supposed to be seen as streaks of cream on your hands and applied that way. And that provides a stronger hold.

    I don't know if I got a jar from a bad batch or if my black ship was dried out somehow, but mine was terribly hard and had clumps. I had to use a lot of pressure to get pomade. Maybe I'll have to try it again sometime, but I've been put off.

    • @I_Might_B_Wrong
      @I_Might_B_Wrong 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Bili Meyer It seems to me that the point of Black is to show those making new style water based pomades that a pomade can be effectively dyed black since brewers like Black Ship have only gotten it to be a greyish color. I'm sure it will be good. The Pomp's collabs are less about being the best pomades and more about pushing innovation further for brewers.

      +IMightBeWrong I think James said that black pomade uses to vanish the white effect after apllying a wax based pomade, and Blackship do it well.

    I recently purchased the Black Ship in the OG Vanilla Peppermint and I was curious; does anyone else who purchased this scent notice the pomade smelling really rank? My personal jar DOES smell like peppermint, but unfortunately it also smells like cat piss. I hate to say that about this product because it had great reviews and the company was very cooperative, but it smells funky as hell. It also has no smell of vanilla whatsoever. I've used it for a few days now and my friends say it smells like peppermint in my hair, but they also agree the jar doesn't smell good at all. I'm not sure if I just got a bad batch or maybe it's just old, but I wanted to reach out to others who might've had this same issue. NOTICE: Please don't let this deter you from buying from Flagship, the company is awesome and I'm sure the rest of their products are awesome as well, I think I just had a run of bad luck.

    So have thick, wavy and decently long hair and I'm using Admiral. I love how easy it is to apply and style but it's not strong enough when I'm skatboarding and in gym, at school, which kinda sucks. Even Layrite Super Hold was not doing much.. And tends to loose height.. This pomade seems much more appealing to me, but so does trying an oil-based pomade. Should I invest into this pomade or..? Please give me some good recommendations and or feedback!

    • @mrMetallica280
      @mrMetallica280 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey dude! I tried this pomade, and it took me a little to figure out to get the most out of it. I discovered that its best to use with damp hair, and not to rub or break it down in your hair. Let it do that while you apply and comb it back. It never washes out completely after I shower so the build up works in your favor. This pomade won't work with being active and going to the gym, but restyling with water is easy. I also have very oily skin and I use oil based products without breaking out. But I don't get active with that pomade in. I suggest this pomade, but I think any of them that you mentioned will do you better. I found that after cutting a lot of length off, water-based works best for me for everyday life. But when I go out for a fancy dinner or something like that, I use my lockharts or flagship. Suavecito works pretty well in my hair. I'm currently going to try some different water-based because it's winter and not humid. I hope this helps!

      Here's a tip for you with this pomade: To get a stronger hold, do not entirely break down the product as he did. Black Ship is best applied when you emulsify it to a point where there's streaks of cream on your hands. And this is a tip that was given from the creator of this pomade.

    Hey James,
    Why do you think Water-Based pomades are on the rise in popularity? Is it because they're somewhat easy to wash out? Because if this pomade is a little bit more difficult to wash out than other water-based pomades, then wouldn't it make almost a regular oil based pomade? If a little bit of water does not dissolve the water-based pomade then it is close to being an oil based pomade, but because part of the ingredients is water then it is considered a water based pomade. It is amazing that a water based pomade acts like an oil pomade, but by technicality it is a water based pomade. What is all the hype about for water based pomades? Is the hype the fact that it acts like an oil based pomade, but it is a water based pomade by technicality?

    • @Azrael88demon
      @Azrael88demon 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Byron Barillas Generally people prefer gel WB because of the wash-ability and the great hold. New WB give the feel of a oil based but with good wash-ability. The thing with oil based is that light and medium ones are generally easy to wash out(more or less) and that was what most people used to back in the day but as modern pompedourers prefer super hold they use heavy oil products which usually contain huge amounts of various types of wax which is very, very hard to wash out(Murray's supperior and Dax Wave and groom don't have wax but they are still very hard to wash of). SO the new WB give the feel of heavy oil based but closer to the wash-ability of a light one. Also another aspect is applicability which WB gel or new are good at. Heavy or superheavy oil types will make you cry while applying it.

    • @Art2D2
      @Art2D2 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      When it comes to unorthodox water based, it's just down to the fact that it's much easier to wash out. As they don't necessarily have to be water-soluble for it to be desired, just easier than the products of the old days. Don't need some other product like Groom & Clean or dish washing soap to get stuff out, just have to shower like normal.

    • @Azrael88demon
      @Azrael88demon 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DisturbedKoala Thats exactly what I am saying the washabillity factor wins overall. Not necessarily that just strait water will disolve it but just a regular shampooing or two to take it off. I admit the whole ritual of degreasing gets tiring, I use the Aussie moist conditioner version. And I did use a shampoo once at an ex gilfriends place on time that just stripped Uppercut Monster hold(heavy oil/wax) from my hair like it was regular gel, I couldn't beleive my eyes. I wish I could remember the name tho.

    • @Art2D2
      @Art2D2 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Azrael88demon I use different shampoos depending on whether I want build up or not. A mild shampoo I use, that is also healthy, is one known as "Shea Moisture African Black Soap Deep Cleansing" and it's what I use with Black Ship to leave behind a clean build up. As in my experience, the average shampoo washes out Black Ship in one try.

    Does anyone have any idea how he gets all of these pomades out of his hair without burning through a hundred bottles of shampoo a year? Does he use a particularly good shampoo that is more effective at ridding the hair of pomade?

      Giovanni Marzouca I personally use Pert volumizing shampoo and conditioner. I style my hair every day with a Blackship or The Mailroom Barber and have never had any trouble getting all of the pomade out with this shampoo! And I don't need an excessive amount of it either.
