This is what the "system" had running it and making decisions. Often their "authoritative" decisions led to the terrible death and torture of others. In my humble view, they are complicit with the further torture and deaths. I don't have mercy on any of them. Why don't we find out who was involved, let them free to kill again, and make sure they feel the error of their ways??

Edit: I have full empathy for her. She shouldn’t have died to a scumbag. She should’ve been kept safe and tbh her parents failed her for not educating her on how dangerous life can be. Before anyone comes for me, humans have always been in danger/dangerous and there will always be bad humans. We just need to pick up on the flags before the shit happens.

Mary told her own story on the show “I survived”. She never testified that the other 2 people were her friends, but other young hitch hikers she met on the road. This is why she left them.

It is completely clear to me that Mary survived this ordeal, not for herself, but to try her damndest to protect other women. She is the definition of badass. Such a pity that the system failed her.
It's a damn good job she was as strong as she was, Imagine if her life had relied on the same system to protect it.

When I heard that she was thinking in her head that if she dies, he's gonna get away and do this to someone else... I have so much respect for her. That she stayed alive and went through all that pain and because of that, this event didn't happen to anyone else! I have so much more respect for her!
Also, how she knew what she had to do to survive, she is such a smart young lady!

Such a great point I would think he could be linked to many more crimes at least a few more which would probably only be through DNA however, if his victims weren’t found for a very long time, it could be nearly impossible to link him, but I really hope that they’re able to even though he’s dead and gonethere most likely victims out there who never been found and the perpetrator was never discovered. It’s so sad.

What a horrific story.
My mum had a close call with a hitchhiker when she was in her early twenties, when I was a kid.
She picked up a hitchhiker on her way home one evening. After driving for only a few minutes and making small talk, she felt like something was off about him. She couldn't pinpoint it, but she had a gut feeling that she should NOT drive this guy any further. She pulled over on the highway and made some excuse about how she couldn't drive him the rest of the way to wherever he was headed, and he got out of my mum's car without issue, thankfully.
A few days later we were watching the news and found out that a man had recently escaped the local jail. He was wanted for murdering young women. That man was the same hitchhiker my mum had picked up just days earlier, and what's even more frightening is that my mum looked an awful lot like his victims did.

im truly shocked/impressed that this girl survived. i mean, both her arms got amputated, she was thrown 30 feet down onto sharp(?) rocks, managed to climb out, put dirl and mud in her arms and possobly bloodstream, and she LIVED to tell the tale. this girl is an absolute legend.
Not to mention she ran 3 miles after she climbed out from under the road and back up the 30 ft. What a fucking *legend*

I don't think eugenics is necessarily a bad idea but being humans, we would find a way to screw up it's practice and turn it into a tool of the ruling class.

It blows my mind how many people ignore that “bad feeling” and their “alarm bells” because they don’t wanna look a certain way or seem rude or whatever. I would never blame a victim for bad things that happen to them, but I think that feeling is a very useful survival mechanism we have. I’ve told my wife and daughter repeatedly that I don’t care if they’re talking to mother Mary herself if they get a bad feeling get out of that situation immediately. Fuck worrying about being rude or anything like that, get away.
I learned fast to ignore caring about “what others think”
Exactly. I don't if its true, but I read somewhere that your "gut feeling" or "alarm bells" happens because your subconscious is picking up on things that are unusual before your conscious can. So logically you can't explain what's your wrong, but you get that feeling because your subconscious is picking up on those things.
There’s a great book about this called “The Gift of Fear,” by a guy who has worked security for politicians and celebrities, among other things. He writes about why you always should listen to those “bad feelings” and trust your instincts. It’s a fascinating book!
You really don’t need feelings. Only common sense. A 15 year old girl taking a ride from a single 50 something that she didn’t even know? And he doesn’t take her friends so she will be alone and vulnerable? Cmon common sense. She could have avoided all this with common sense.
What 'victim blaming'?
Pointing out what victim did wrong isn't 'victim blaming', it's learning from past mistakes and making sure it doesn't happen again.

This poor girl survived so much. I can’t even imagine the strength Mary must have had to survive this torture.

I remember this when it happened. Of course our parents used it to make a point about never hitchhiking.
And even though I'm familiar with this story, it still makes me physically sick. Evil does walk the streets.

Made me physically sick and tear up hearing what horrendous things she suffered. I’ve never felt horror by simply hearing someone’s story but that feeling is hard to mislabel. Then I couldn’t sleep cause of course I was going to bed while watching this but I couldn’t stop thinkin that if I feel this sensation of horror; I couldn’t fathom the immeasurable sense of horror this young girl was going through. Evil, pure evil. In my opinion it is evil the meaningless sentence they gave him; givin him the chance to ever have the opportunity to kill again after what he did is pure insanity. After everything Mary went through; fighting off death with what must have been sheer will power, and to release him or even considering granting him parole after his last words to Mary was a vow that he would kill her before his death is just an egregious miscarriage of justice. The should’ve fought to change legislation before they force Mary’s attempt to protect the world from this evil be an attempt in vain through no fault of her own. So disappointing and terrifying to realize that some people won’t get justice even in an open and shut case such as this. The suffered and would never be the same again but succeeded in surviving and in doing so did everyone’s job for them. All the system had to do was lock him; which they clearly are okay with doing to innocent people yet this evils guilt is irrefutable and yet get what is purely a timeout for him. “5mins in the corner” will never change pure evil.
Mary is one of the strongest people I’ve ever seen. To have those significant of injuries and still stay present and do everything she did to survive is crazy. She’s a trooper.

Can you imagine fighting so hard to stay alive and going through unimaginable pain to ensure you're able to save other women, only for the justice system to allow this beast to serve only 8 years and end up killing another woman? It must have been devastating. Mad respect for Mary.

Personally I disagree with the death penalty. It's far to merciful for monsters like this and he should have been locked in a cell and left to rot alone only given subpar meals just to keep him alive.
It's fkn weird he got such a low sentence. In the jurisdiction I am in with would be considered as Rape of a Minor, Kidnapping, and Frustrated Murder which would have easily landed the Death Penalty (bumped down to Life Imprisonment with no Parole since the death penalty was suspended). How the heck did he only get 14 years and paroled at 8?

Once she aarived at the hospital she even managed to fight off sleep, so she could immediatly tell police about him and so they could get every information asap. The strength of this woman is insane!!!!
Honestly, I'm twice her age and I don't think I'd have that level of strength in me in a situation like that. She's an absolutely incredible woman.

It's absolutely beyond me. She had the presence of mind in that situation to stay alive amongst other reasons but also to make sure he didn't hurt anyone else. So they gave him a slap on the wrist and goes right out and does exactly what she knew would happen. Can I also mention the amazing details of the description, spot on! I would say it was in vain, but obviously her life is the most important. I highly recommend A&E's I Survived story on her. Mr Ballen got every detail but you'll get to have her amazing beauty both inside and out. Much love!

Sorry but I’m rarely satisfied with sentencing of evil people. Especially how it’s about the same as sentences for drug offenders, or accidental crimes, or not that serious crimes. It just doesn’t seem right.

Sorry not sorry but if you brutally attack someone like that you are a danger to society and shouldn't be let out period. "Good behavior" or not. The fact that he said he'd finish the job? Edit. In addition to that, what they did to their victims should be part of their punishment. I mean, what they did should be done to them in turn, so they go through the same ordeal, that way they know fully, first hand, and to all the horrific extent what it was like for their victims.
I remember her. After she recovered from the attack, sometime later, I had some college classes with her. She had her prosthetic arms at that time. I remember how sweet and nice she was. We never talked about the attack, even though we all knew. We just treated her like any other friend and student. I really admired her for her strength and bravery and her will to survive. I really liked her. I hope she is still doing well.
Hope she reads your comment one day : ), She sure is a rare breed who can withstand that level of pain and probably worse "the fear" (our bodies can cope with amazing leevels of pain "in the moment" but the fear can really put a life in jeopardy) and still think straight enough to survive

My Granny made me watch an interview with Mary sitting there with her prosthetics recounting what had happened to her when I was young. She was THE example why I wasn't to talk to or take rides from strangers. A few years afterwards, there was a fire and this guy put my brother and I in the back of his truck so he could take us to my grandmother but I didn't know him and started fighting him. My mom had to come, calm me down and tell me it was okay and she knew him.
I like how the police never tells us there is a serial killer in your area. They stay silent so you won’t be “scared.” Fear is key to survival. Not knowing who your enemy is makes you weak
I never understood that way of thinking! The police should tell us when a serial killer or a human trafficking ring is in the area. It helps us to be more vigilant!

@@maveryk That happens when someone can’t control their fear. If you control it, it can be used as a survival tool. First hand, been stuck in the woods lost for a week. I was scared as hell. But it turned to be a driving force to survive.
This woman is incredible.
Not only because she survived, but the fact that she never passed out from the pain and was able not to go into shock.
Then to pack her own wounds with dirt and push forward to get help.

Just a fun fact as to why she didn't die from it. Completely severing the limbs actually did get a massive favor (in terms of survival). He completely severed the arteries and veins in her arms. When that happens they actually constrict and contract. Kind of like a worm crawling back into a hole. It cuts off a huge amount of the blood flow. A partially severed artery or vein won't do that.
So if you're ever in a situation where that's relevant - slice the artery the rest of the way, if you can't clamp it. If there's too much damage - tourniquet (but you'll almost 100% lose that limb).

Its weird that if partially cut you can die from blood loss pretty quick but cut all the way through it will kind of heal itself.

I can agree with this but it's really difficult to judge an individuals intentions when they're really good at pretending to be a decent person around certain people but become an animalistic monster around others behind closed doors.

I was 15 years old & waiting for the bus. This car kept driving around me with a dude in it creeping me out. This guy pulls up to the stop sign & literally looked like santa & asked if I wanted a ride. I jumped in his truck because I was freaked out about the other car. "Santa" takes me to the mall (yes, the mall, lol) & before I got out he opens his middle consol & pulls out a gun. He said, "I couldve used this on you any time I wanted. Dont get in strangers cars." I was terrified. Terrified enough to never get into a strangers car ever again. That man probably saved me in many ways that day. Thank you "Santa."
This man was a true monster of humanity. He literally was what scary movies portray! The woman who survived is a true miracle!!

It’s all the public decision. If the public would fight to have sentences increased then they would do that. We have the power. But some idiots will complain about human rights and blah blah
Thousands of lives would be saved every year, but the bleeding hearts only care about criminals, not victims. So repeat offenders are let out time and time again, in the revolving door of justice.

I worked with a woman at a military repair ship yard many years ago who was also a victim of his as a teenager. He had assaulted her, slit her throat, and tossed her out of his vehicle. Never grilled her on the timeline so I imagine it must have been after he was released. Just remember she showed me the thick scar across her throat from almost ear to ear that she kept covered, and telling me she would have to go to parole hearings at times for this monster. So am guessing it was after he was released from Mary's ordeal, and before he got caught for the woman that he murdered?
It might of been before Mary. We don't know what criminal record he had when he got to Mary. They didn't mention it. He may have been a multi timer. They can't hold prior assaults against you in another assault case because they are considered unrelated. Now when it comes to murder, prior crimes can be presented as a pattern of behavior. At least that what I learned from all my true crime type TV show.

That prison sentence was a travesty. Monsters like that don’t change. He should’ve gotten life without parol. And now an innocent woman is dead because the sentence they gave him was a joke. Absolutely sickening.
One of the most thought-provoking type of revenge received on this type of people is to hire another phychos (I can't use any other word) to act as executioners, which serve only one role- give the death penalty. But not a regular one, only the culprit must die the same way as he or she killed
I believe in second chances for alot of people in prison. But people like this should be left to rot in prison. Executing isn't enough. It's 2 quick. Let them rot
A 2nd chance for murder alone is absurd. Unless it's an act of self defense or some extraordinary condition. It's a life for a life. If you take one you should lose your own. Same goes for torture and severe abuse.

I met Mary. Back in the 1990's she and one of her sons moved in next door to us. I was in elementary school and so was her son, but I was 1 year ahead of him. He went to the same school as me, and we would ride the bus home together, her son and I were boyfriend girlfriend for awhile. Obviously nothing serious as we were kids. I watched the first Jurassic Park movie for the first time at her house with her and her son, scared the crap out of me back then. Mary was so kind and generous, and always spoke in soft tones, and you just got this warm and comfortable vibe from her. I asked her once what happened to her arms and she smiled and told me never to hitchhike, and that is all she said. I never did find out her story, until now that is. She only lived next door to us for about a year, don't know what happened to her after that, but I will never forget her, she changed my outlook on life, and made me realize that no matter what happens to you, you can still be a good decent person.

I don't blame the judge for the sentence given he was constrained by the law. I blame the parole board for letting him out early.

I’m an EMT. If your forearm is severed, then you will SURELY have a terminal arterial bleed. That shit arcs through the air with every accelerated beat of your heart (tachycardia). She must have been in hypovolemic shock, and was 100% on her way to an early grave. It can happen in less than a minute (depending on the size of the vessel that’s compromised, etc.) That woman is a testament to what the “Fight or Flight response” can do for someone. She didn’t even have hands to tie an improvised tourniquet!!! You’ve only got (roughly) 5 liters of blood in an adult. She was a child, so make it 4 liters, and I’ll bet my NREMT numbers that she lost a liter. That’s 25% of your blood supply. She is an extremely rare case, and a FIGHTER! Some folks give up. Even in the back of an ambulance on the way to “Definitive Care”, and “Advanced Life Support”. This girl is a fucking heroine! (No pun intended. Sincerely. Besides they’re two different words)

No, they cannot "bend" the law. If they do, a mistrial can be declared and the risk of "not guilty" the second time around. They generally give the maximum in such cases and will have sentences run consecutively for the maximum time and specify no parole.

Here in Uruguay a serial killer that had murdered three women in the 90s got sentensed to 30 years and got released in 2016 for "good behaviour", even when he never felt any remorse for what he did. He then moved to Paraguay and luckily got caught with a bag full of arms. Glad they cought him before he could hurt more people.

I got a ride from someone in 2004 headed home from the one of the libraries in San Antonio, he creeped me out so bad with his forward questions and leer that I asked him to stop cause my house was coming up (it wasn't yet). For a second I could tell he hesitated but did stop. When he pulled away, I ran into this paint and body shop ran by this guy named Romo. I hurried into an open bay door on the side of the building which was around the block from my house. These big biker guys were surprised to see me, a young white girl in the wesso that doesn't speak Spanish, come running into their shop and duck behind a taped up car. The man that gave me a ride circled the block twice while I was standing there. The Banditos loaded me into a van and drove me to my house. I had to wait for the guy to circle around one more time before I ran inside. Romo, thank you, dude.

In which case you really probably shouldn’t get out and put yourself in harms way. I like to think I would have helped too but you really never know how you are going to react until you are presented with the situation. I watched a motorcyclist get hit by an suv right in front of me and when I got out my car and ran up to the poor guy, his femur was sticking out of his leg and up through his jeans. I immediately called 911 and told the guy not to move his body, however I found myself in shock and not able to apply a tourniquet or anything because I couldn’t deal with that level of trauma with no notice. So ya I see people in the comments all the time saying I would have done this or that, unless you have been there you really never know what you are going to do. Obviously what happened to me isn’t nearly as traumatic as seeing a mutilated women, but I’m just trying to make a point.
@@reboundrides8132 I know for a fact I would. I have helped more than once. Just one of those examples I was looking out the side view mirror of the passenger side. I saw a van wipe a motorcycle off of the road. I told my husband stop I'm going to help. He tried to grab my hand and told me call his wife. He could not lift his hand. I can tell through his jacket he had a compound fracture. All I could do was hold that together. Thank the Lord above the next car that stopped was an off-duty paramedic. He told me he's talking to him. And he told him we will get you to the hospital I'll call your wife right away. I just kept telling him look me in the eye. I held it on together until the ambulance got there. That's one of three times I have helped.

Not going to lie: It's really hard to feel bad for someone who dies of cancer in prison after the horrific things they did. That woman showed incredible strength as a teenager by choosing to live. You can say they sometimes kill for the sake of killing. Dolphins and similar species play with their prey before eating it too. As he passed away he most likely felt a black hole opened up underneath him and he could hear the screaming of a multitude. Near Death Experiences tell us that hell is feeling all the pain you caused, and all the pain created by others all around you, forever. And you know you deserve the pain you caused and you accept it willingly. It’s the purest and truest form of justice there is. Those that have come back have said they would have preferred burning in a lake of fire.
The strength of Mary is amazing. Her desire to see him caught helped fuel her will to live. My mind can't possibly conceive what she went through but I am indeed inspired by her for sure.
I just now finished this video. Took me a while to find the time because of work. Now that I've seen it, I can honestly say without a doubt in my mind that this woman (she was just a girl when it happened) this girl the most savage survivor I've ever heard of. So much strength in her it's unbelievable.

Definitely was not expecting that horrifying of a true story. This definitely ranks number 1 on my “felt sick to my stomach hearing about it in graphic detail” list.
I wish I could say the same. This is absolutely monstrous, but I don't think it cracks the top ten for me. The atrocities around WW2 are the worst I'd say. Some of the details of Hitler & Stalin's atrocities, and the stuff Japanese soldiers did... the crimes of Gilles de Rais and Elizabeth Báthory are also absolutely soulshattering. The part that disturbs me most is that some of the known crimes of Gilles de Rais are the most over the top evil shit you'll ever hear, but it also says the judge struck the worst stuff from the record. Sweet merciful Christ, if what I read wasn't the worst of it...
Oh, and I know a history professor, one time I asked him who he thinks is the most evil person that doesn't usually make the list because they're not as common knowledge as, say, Hitler. He immediately said Lavrentiy Beria, who was Stalin's secret police chief. I only looked a bit into what he did, but holy shit...
Suffice to say, don't look into any of this stuff unless you've got a strong stomach. They make this story look like a Disney movie. There is true evil in this world.

i don't know why but mary's story always makes me so anxious
i've listened to tons of stories similar, but this one in particular just makes me feel unbelievably nervous
I've seen another video about this woman's story and she's actually the one telling her story and she's such an inspiration and a true survivor. It just goes to show you how strong you can truly be after and during something so horrific.
Yes, she was on " I Survived" , on A&E.
I just watched her tell her story the other day. What a fighter she is!
I love that you said "during!" So many people imply that surviving something traumatic makes you strong, but you have to have been strong to begin with just to get through something like that.

I vividly remember this when it happened. It makes you wonder how many other women he killed and got away with in the 10 years before he got caught. What a disgusting human being. I’m so glad she went on and had a family and lived a normal life as possible. God bless her.
I've heard this story several times and the sheer horror of what she went through never gets any easier to hear. What a brave and amazingly strong person she is!

Another thing that pisses me off is that the mother of one of the rapists / murderers desecrated the girl's grave, claiming that she ruined her son's life.
Alison Botha is another one with an amazing survival story.

The fact that Mary had her faculties about her enough to pack the wounds and raise her arms to reduce blood loss is insane.
She was Only 15 years old aswell - very smart for her age. Most people wouldnt have survived what she went through - crazy how powerful the human spirit can be.

@@TheSMMSFreak She was 15. That’s young. Can’t expect her to be a genius when it comes to those sort of scenarios. Not to mention this was years ago before anyone had to really worry about the whole ‘stranger danger’ thing. She was young and wasn’t thinking straight. Regardless of how she got herself into that situation, it’s beyond amazing how she got herself out.

The story detailed the scenario, small 15 year old, big van with only the driver 5 to possibly 7 seats. How many red flags does someone need?
Those times were different. Sure, the red flag was there, but the thought of having a actual psychopath giving you a ride wasn't the first thought back then. And judging by her living in Vegas at the time, indicates she had rich parents, and rich kids tend to be less careful because they think they're entitled. She acted just like a spoiled teenager would, and ended up in the worst scenario ever. Good she survived! Singleton could've chopped her head off, but luckily he didn't!
This one was so distressing, not only what Mary had to endure to survive but how the courts (even though it was the maximum at the time) let Mary, Roxanne Hayes and Roxanne's family down. What a truly evil man! Thank you Mr Ballen for bringing this episode to our notice.
Thankfully what she went through got the laws changed and has potentially saved a ton of women from undergoing something like she had to go through.

Look up Bobby Bostic. It's the varying sentences doled out after one person's very brief perception of you that is insane!?! And intent should count for a helluva lot more than results. She was a fighter, a clever and resourceful girl- ultimately a 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗼𝗿- so he beats a murder rap. That's bs. He most def 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑑 for her to die, but his over confidence and incompetence saved his own ass. Good behavior- 😑ugh.

Quality narration. This guy has the rare flavor of tone that is nosy but very clear to those of us who English is second language. I mean you don't miss not even a single word that proceeds from his mouth. Anyone else wondering where his other victims are? Seems odd for him to start this kind of thing so late in life. Endless prayers for Mary and may she have had a blessed life after her encounter with this monster.

@@C4VeNm how did the police let Mary down? They weren’t the ones prosecuting him, the DA was. They didn’t decide the sentence, that was the judge or jury. They didn’t let him out early, the parole board did.
Who ever granted that parole should be in prison for Roxanne’s death. They are directly responsible. Make people serve the entire sentence for horrific crimes such as this.
Shoot I almost say the person who let them off on parole should be executed for being a corrupt judge. No sympathy for this. Update: I see the judge gave the maximum, I can't believe anyone in that court room could walkout with such a light sentence.

unfortunately that is how the justice system work...parole officer can only keep him in for certain time...otherwise it become illegal detention..it's the bloody judges and law makers who should be hanged.

@73dlb The judge wanted to give him a longer sentence, but wasn't legally empowered to do so. The parole board, on the other hand, has a lot to answer for...
That woman has more strength, Courage, will power and motivation then every man and woman in the world. She should be given millions for all of the emotional and physical damage she was put though
It doesn't matter how many times I've heard this story, the horror of what this monster did still makes me cringe. That Mary survived is THE testament to the strength of the human soul.

How is she amazing when she put herself in that situation. Yeah he deserves life in prison, but she was very naive and didn't listen to her friends. Not to mention she snuck out of her grands home because she was homesick.
I went into that episode without knowing her story, and I will NEVER forget the way my stomach dropped into a bucket of ice when she lifted her arm for the first time (to light a cigarette, I think) and revealed her prosthetic.

When he warned us that this was going to be the most graphic story he has told, I honestly didn’t believe him. I mean, he’s told some pretty graphic ones that include eating flesh. I just figured it couldn’t get any worse, but this story was deeply disturbing and nauseating. To anyone who complained about his last video saying it wasn’t dramatic enough, I hope you’re happy now. We are all gonna have nightmares about our limbs getting chopped off. 🙃 As always, great story telling on his part!
I actually thought the Austin story was more scary and more unsettling to me. It leaves a terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. I remember vaguely when Austin attacked that guy and there was very little information at the time released. I thought that it was a roid rage. Because I know bodybuilders a lot of times takes steroids and coming off steroids can cause hallucinations and aggression. Off topic but Austin's parents really failed him. If they had taken him to see just one medical professional just one the whole summer that situation wouldn't have happened he would have gotten the help he needed before he hurt anyone. And the justice system failed in this case by letting a literal torturer free from prison at all. I really feel like he had more victims he never admitted to.

@@WhitneyDahlin I guess this one was so unsettling to me because she was 15. I have my own dark past from childhood, so certain things resonate with me a little more with this story. Plus, when limbs get cut off, it’s terrifying. The fact that she was totally conscious for it and remembers it is what gets to me even more. This is why I like his stories so much though. He tells a variety of tales that eventually gets everyone creeped out.
@@colspiracy8326 Right? She is lucky to be alive. I’ve heard so many stories about young women getting killed because they went to a bar alone or got in a vehicle with a stranger. It’s sad that so many of these tragedies could be avoided.
I just finished watching one of those episodes on a special show made for TV called "I Survived"...And what was my surprise to find this particular episode was Mary's story!
When I started watching the episode, I really had no idea what the situation was gonna be for this person when she started narrating her story...but when said she was picked up by some guy one day she was hitchhiking, and then she started mentioning the fact that the guy chopped her arms off, my mind went like WAIT A MINUTE! WHERE DID I HEAR THIS BEFORE!...And yes indeed I had...right here, in your video, MrBallen..
In this TV episode, she herself tells her story, and you can even see her prosthetic arms and hands through the interview, when she occasionally helps herself with some tissues to wipe off her face as she talks...I couldn't believe what i was seeing....Very compelling....I truly wish that mfkr had been thrown a life sentence minimum... Wow

Regardless of how fucked up this was/is, these are still relatively the safest times to be alive in all of human history. In reality, you're far more likely to die from a stroke; heart-attack; cancer (like the killer) or a car accident than an act of blatant violence.

Mary now does art, and makes custom prosthetics from scrap electronics.
She's an absolute badass. and though she's still alive, she'll always be remembered as a survivor and a hero.
Lawrence will barely be remembered as some awful monster.
She also had a little boy.
He’ll be remembered but only infamously as the individual who was so evil and conniving there was an entire law created to get rid of those like him.
Every time I hear this story I'm more and more amazed at Mary's strength and bravery. Mary is such an amazing woman 🙏🏿🙌🏿♥️ so sad he was released after that horrific crime.

Not to minimize Mary's ordeal, or any victim of this world's depravity, but look up David Parker Ray.
For other examples of human bravery in the face of unimaginable horror, look up Colleen Stan. Also Josefina Rivera. The human instinct to survive is amazing to me.
*edit- MrB also has a story about his retired military friend who went back to a brutal war zone which had been captured by terrorists to save innocent children (and adults) and injured people. Inspiring.
I absolutely agree but just the way mr ballen tells the story about Samantha Koenig and how gruesome it truly is and I guess me having a daughter and thinking of someone doing harm to her that story really is at the top of the chain for me with Mr ballens videos

@@Amanduhuhuhuh yeah unfortunately this is not the most disturbing story I've ever heard. There is so many cases and account of human depravity and psychopathy that it is mindblowing. I know what makes something disturbing is subjective to each person. Also I agree that the instinct to survive is amazing and I can't even imagine how strong and brave Mary or any other victim would have to be in those situations.
Side note: I love the story of mrballen's friend who saves the children and man in a warzone. If you haven't already you should watch his video titled "this man dies 37 times" or something like that. It's amazing. It was the first mrballen video recommended to me by TH-cam and made me an instant fan/subscriber
The threat he said to Mary on his way out of the courtroom should have been enough to put this psycho away for longer than 14 years? The composer this woman has is amazing, I wouldn't have been able to sit there after that remark 😤 let alone survive this brutal attack. God bless her throughout her life! ❣🌈

The fact that she ran 3 miles down the highway after being tortured for hours, having 4 ribs broken, and bleeding profusely from her arms is unbelievable. She's so incredibly strong
