James Potter also known as Prongs, was a pure-blood wizard and the only son of Fleamont and Euphemia Potter. He attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1971-1978. He was killed by Lord Voldemort while attempting to defend his wife and son.

As far as i know james had not boasted to vernon..Vernon being him boasted of his car and asked him his model..james politely with a smile informed him that they do not use cars..rather they use brooms and apparitions..the idiot thought he was being mocked by him at his own table. Outraged he took petunia and left them there..lily was deeply upset and she knew it was no fault of james either..he later promised that he will make it up in future..but it did not happen

James though he saved Severus, he didn't do that for him, he did that to save Remus and Sirius as well as himself. If something had happened to Severus, he knew that Lily would have gone back to hating him. Even if she had stopped talking to Severus after he called her a mudblood, Lily would have still been upset.

Nah, I disagree. I think it was genuine love. I just think, he was just misguided, and didn't react to all that happened as well as others might. He did go to the ends of the earth to protect her offspring. He end up caring for harry, to a certain degree. Btw, im not saying snape wasnt a dick for his abusive behaviour.... But he was still "in the grand scheme of things" a good guy.
Thats the thing i love about Snape as a character, he divides peoples opinions. Not just from person to person, but individually. It can be difficult to decide which side of the fence to sit on. He has a horrible personality, but ultimately he has done a lot of good and save countless lives (despite his reasons). Even harry eventually forgave him 'kind of', or at the very least, understood him. He even named a child after him. So lean on the positive side for snape. I tend to favour the bad/dark sided characters anyway so im a little biased.
I think you should specify that you like Snape as a book character, he is an interesting character.
But if he were a real life person, he would be despicable.
Barty Crouch Jr. was a Ravenclaw Death Eater. The dude was insanely crazy smart. He was the only character in Harry Potter able to outsmart DUMBLEDORE!!!!! He was able to OUTSMART THE GOBLET OF FIRE!!!! He was the best Defence of the Dark Arts teacher and he was just pretending. In fact here is a quote by Voldemort just showing Barty Crouch Jr’s Ravenclaw pride: "*Wormtail, I need somebody with brains, somebody whose loyalty has never been wavered, and you, unfortunately, fulfil neither requirement.*" - Voldemort. Barty Crouch Jr. is the only known and confirmed Ravenclaw Death Eater. Barty Crouch Jr. was the Brains of the Death Eaters.

Oh I was so looking forward to the story about James Potter. Snape took his hatred of James Potter and put it on Harry, which was so unfair to Harry Potter. Harry was sometimes like his father, but he was like his mother also. Harry was mortified about his father bullying Snape when he saw Snape's memories. James was a good father and he must be so proud of Harry. His son had to go through too much as a child never should have had to go through.
But Severus was really nice he protected harry so he could die at the right time his last words were to Harry:
"Collect them...The cauldron, You have your mothers eyes..." These explained everything to Harry, why he really saved Harry in his first year and every year after that. Also showing harry the final horacrux. Also His tears when he died they were NOT because of pain they were because of Harry he was never able to tell him what he was himself
Victoria Richardson Snape was a spy. He had to be cruel to Harry no matter what, otherwise Voldemort wouldn't have trusted him enough to become headmaster. Bellatrix was suspicious of Severus in the sixth book. Wondering why he hadn't killed Harry,or why he didn't kill Dumbleodre, and wondering why Severus stopped Voldemort from killing Harry in his first year. Severus promised Dumbledore that he would protect Harry from Voldemort, to the point where he felt betrayed when it was revealed Harry would die. Those tears at the end, they were memories he had to give to Harry, but at the same time they were real tears, from the pain and the fact that he had failed to keep Lily's son safe.
Also in the fifth book, Severus goes looking for Harry in the forbidden forest while the Order all go to the ministry of magic.
Severus was also afraid of rejection.
LunaMarie Sims4 I honestly think the reason Severus was a jerk to Harry was so that he I didn’t get caught since he was a double spy and if he got caught he wouldn’t be able to protect Harry or tell him what needs to happen honestly I love Severus he may be an ass most of the times but I can’t fully blame him I’m not saying it gives him the reason to bully or put others down but he wasn’t really brought up 😔☹️

Okay, so mistake #1 is that they never insulted Snape on the train, Snape sort of insulted them... so like Sirius, James and Severus were in the same train compartment and the two were talking about which house they wanted to be in. Sirius and James both said Gryffindor and stuff then Severus said he wants to be in Slytherin because he prefers brains over brawn and James and Sirius felt insulted.
Mistake #2 Yes, James bullied Snape, but Snape didn't cower in fear or cry, he usually hexes back. Sometimes he brings his young Death Eater Crew. Think of it as a duel.
AbbiCat Severus only said that because he was giving an opinion on Slytherin. He liked that house, wanted to be in that house for reasons unknown to us, but my guess is his mother was in Slytherin herself. A bit like Harry wanting to go into Gryffindor because of his parents and Ron.
James and Sirius were saying negative things about Slytherin. Severus was just stating his opinion.
Where does it say that Severus would bring a Death eater crew with him?
#1. They did actually insult Severus on the train, after he made a comment about Gryffindor but they did still insult him. #2. never in the books does it say he brought his death eater friends with him to attack them, he was bullied severely by James and Sirius and yes he fought back in defence, as they got older they had developed this feud but it started with them attacking Severus. I mean if someone was ganging up on me and attacking me sure as hell I would fire back at them when I had the chance.

Exactly. Snape arrogantly said that James only wanted to be in Gryffindor because he'd rather be brawny than brainy and James asked Snape where he was going to go seeing as he was neither. Sometimes you can meet someone and just dislike them from the start. That was the case with them. I'm willing to bet some of James's bullying of Snape was because he heard about Snape using dark magic to bully students and he thought to himself "Let's see how you like it Snivellus." Obviously that doesn't excuse James and Sirius bullying Snape but it might be one way to explain it. James levitating Snape and apparently taking off his pants was a shitty thing to do but it was nothing compared to what Snape and his mates Mulciber and Avery were implied to have done to the Mary McDonald girl Lily mentioned. But apparently Snape considered implied rape a real knee slapper. I don't get what the fangirls find attractive about Snape in either personality, attitude or looks. I think they just pity him for his bad childhood and that's it. If he existed in real life they'd probably give him a pity shag.

I believe we all have come to love these characters because of their incredibly deep backstory that makes up their motivations, feelings and relathionships between one another.
My appreciation for them comes from their humanity and realism, from their flaws and mistakes that have forged their personality and taught them to truly express love as they grew older.
James and Severus, among others, are the best example of maturing in the understanding of love culminated eventually in their sacrifices.
They encourage me to be myself and incarnate the most important values to always grow as a human being.
I love seeing through comments how many people have been positively affected by Jo Rowling's books, too.

I tend to think what would have happened if James was nice to Snape. I wonder if he would have protected Harry because Snape liked James, not because he owed him. I definitely think if it wasn't for Lilly's death, he would have been a very dark wizard and not loyal to Dumbledore. Anyone else?

flugsven Yeah and that. Though at times he had good reasons to. Like in Goblet of fire when he makes fun of Hermoine's appearance. Draco had hit Hermione with the spell. Imagine what would have happened if he had helped her when Draco was in the room. Draco would have told Lucius who would have told Voldemort and the other Death Eaters.
His reasons for verbally bullying Harry. Again, it was because of his role as a spy but also his hatred of James as well as himself. Everyday Severus would have found it painful looking into Harry's eyes, (Lily's eyes.) On the face of the man who had bullied him and took the only person that had made him happy, away. In the sixth installment of the series Bellatrix questions him about his loyalties already. Asking him why he didn't let Voldemort kill Harry in first year or why he didn't kill Dumbledore or Harry with all the chances he had.
Him bullying Neville. Not really sure. Some HP fans will say that it's to do with Neville not being the chosen one, but that's a theory, and is possibly true as well.
Severus bullying Ron. Ron was Harry's best friend as well as a Weasley, a light family and the son of someone Lucius did not get along with.
The rest of the Gryffindors, he shouldn't have bullied.

I hate it when people say that James is nothing but a bully and romanticize snape. James is shown bullying snape on one occasion (which is horrible of course) but despite saying it's just for being him there's a lot of backstory with Snape calling him dumb the day he met him, targeting his friend because of his illness (lycanthropy) and constantly trying to expose him and therefore stalking his group of friends (the marauders), targeting and bullying muggleborns and joining the proto death eaters, not to mention that he continues bullying Students his entire life and abusing his position in power to do so. If there ever was a true bully, boy is snape one. James has faults and the pensive scene shows him at his worst but he's redeemed himself as a bully whereas snape continued bullying his entire life. Snape also didn't care if Lily's husband and son died as long as she was spared and if it weren't for Lily and Neville had been the Chosen One he would have never went to Dumbledore at all. He's a dark grey character imo one good deed does not equal a good person.

Hello Dean. Further greeting from Alabama USA. I love this video, and like you, James was one of my favorite of the characters that died young. His final action shows that how a person starts out can be far different from how they finish.
I hope to be able to help you out on the issue of the position James played on the Quidditch team.
The movies wrongly had James' name on the plaque in the trophy room as a seeker, which, when added to the scene of him playing with the snitch, gave ONLY movie viewers the wrong impression.
The books never state his position, only that he was a great player. JKR tried to clearify this later on by specifying he was a chaser. This is the point at which it becomes Canon.
Also, from the pensive scene, when asked where he got that snitch, he replies, "I nicked it," which is he took (stole) it.
Seekers would WIN the snitch to finish the game, (Harry did this several times throughout his years there), thereby being able to keep the snitch rightfully. James' confession of "nicked" is a pretty fair indicator that he did not WIN the snitch as would have been the case IF he was a seeker.
This issue has come up many times in comments on your channel and others, as well as in chat forums. It probably isn't gone for good though LOL.

Right! Never have been so curious about a character! I think he’s amazing! Becoming an animagus (sp) for your werewolf friend! Giving your best friend a place to stay. Helping his ‘weaker’ friend belong. Changing his silly way for love. Supporting his werewolf when he couldn’t find employment. I would have married the guy had I been Lily too. Snape couldn’t even leave the dark side for her sake and he claimed undying love.

What I love about Snape is that you can’t call him good or evil. He constantly bullied his students, he told Hermione that he saw no difference in her teeth when Draco hexed them. He was Neville’s boggart for Merlin’s sake. He was the thing Neville feared the most instead of someone who was supposed to make him feel safe! Yet you can’t say he was evil because despite hating Remus Lupin he made the Wolfsbane potion for him and constantly put himself in danger to protect Harry, Lily’s son. The twist is that he never did this because he actually cared for Harry, as shown by his constantly bullying and reminder of James, but because he loved Lily and ultimately died for her and her son’s sake.
I absolutely love James, Sirius and lily both as individual characters and their relationship with each other.

I liked the video, but James "spending much of his academic career chasing after Lily" is fanon not canon. He fancied Lily at least by fifth year, but as far as canon is concerned that's the only time James asked her out, lily seemed oblivious to james' crush on her when snape mentioned it as well.

I never understood why Snape just had to have Lily so he went through all his Hogwarts years and never tried to be nice to another girl. Lily wanted friendship not to date him and he got mad at her for it. James may have been an arrogant toerag but Lily liked him he wasn't chasing a fantasy cooked up in his own head she found the good in him and they got together then eventually married. Snape is the example of "If I can't have you no one can." He was obsessive and took it out on her child who didn't ask to be born let alone be the face of a war that killed his parents and then be basically trained for a war he technically died in anyway. Being brought back to life does not change the fact Dumbledore failed him. And then Snape was an ass to him every year since he stepped foot in the castle. Double agent or not he took the dark mark and only came to regret it cuz he know he helped kill Lily, whether it was intentional or not, all cuz she fell in love with someone else. I personally think he's crazy but I do respect him for looking after Harry at times even though he and every other adult in the story failed him (except Sirius, Tonks, Remus, Minnie, the Weasley's, and a few other people).
@Severus Von Emreis Snape's patronus was a doe, the same as lily's, signifying obsession not love. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. James truly loved her as can be seen how he was willing to sacrifice himself for both her AND Harry. Snape on the other hand was willing to allow lily's husband AND child die. That's not true love. That's called selfishness and obsession. Imagine how she wouldve felt knowing that he was willing to give up Harry and James just like that. An innocent child moreover. Snape may have died as a hero but he certainly didn't love lily selflessly, he obsessed over her.

Okay but why does everyone ignore the fact that Snape was the one who literally told voldy about the prophecy? He is at fault for his actions and has partial fault in the death of Lily Potter
And then he lived with those consequences by feeling guilt and remorse until the day he died, doing a job he hated surrounded by people he hated, putting his life in danger every day for years, being one of the most hated men in the wizarding world for killing Dumbledore on Dumbledores orders, all to protect a boy who he didn't even remotely like as a person
