    Watch as Danny MacAskill brings a forgotten city back to life with his latest street trials film. Following on from 2013's mind-blowing 'MacAskill's Imaginate', Epecuén is the latest film from Danny MacAskill.
    Directed by long time collaborator Dave Sowerby, we'll see Danny take his riding back to the roots of trials riding, exploring the forgotten town of Epecuén in Argentina, a location that has been submerged for the majority of the past 25 years.
    Pablo Novac, Epecuén's only resident throughout the troubled times, gives a brief history of the location culminating with his thoughts that he '...can no longer see what use this place has for us now,' MacAskill however has other ideas.
    Danny MacAskill is renowned for pushing the levels of both his riding and filming with previous releases 'Way Back Home' and 'Imaginate' accumulating over 50 million views between them; Epecuén is set to raise the bar once again.

    About a year ago I watched this video for the first time, and was a bit disappointed because they spent so much time showing the destruction of the town, and not enough MacAskill magic. Now, a year later I watch it again and reach the understanding that Danny is just the focal point, the excuse for making a video that is vastly greater than some impossibly talented guy doing tricks on a bicycle. The cinematography, the music, the flow of the riding all lends a poignancy, a sadness that brings tears to my eye. Even without Danny MacAskill this would be a magnificent video.

    I grew up in a small town 60 km west from here. Epecuen was our childhood holiday reasort, especially in the summer time. I could recognize the promenade along the lake coast, and the big public pool, with the stone banches and the showers. Difficult to believe, once this place was full of life (at the sixties and seventies). Day life and night life, restaurants and gift shops with regional products, thermal hotels with sauna and music shows, places for picnic and camping along the road between Epecuen and Carhue (the next town 10 km away) with the famous mysterious exotic castle at the side of the road (we always expected to see and visit it as children), and the nationally well known therapeutic water and the mud!!! Then the flood came, and everything was lost under the salty water. Many years passed, it was an eternity. We forgot the city and lost hope. Even ghosts did not remain. The pain was hidden inside. Today, to my surprise, I saw this city again, emerging and reborn from my past, from the water and the salt. Twenty thousands km away from there, abroad, where I live now. Through this beautiful high quality video, music and performance, I could join again present and past, joy and pain, beauty and death, sadness and hope, shadowed trees and crystal salts burning at sunset. Maybe one day, like a fenix, this silenced city made of salt will be rebuilt for the joy of new generations,,,,,but nothing will be the same, as it was at "sixties", with my grandmother there drinking "mate", covering her head and taking a bath. Thanks very much.

    Hello Danny from Argentina thanks to you and red bull for coming to make this video that apart from showing your undeniable skill, recalls the story of ordinary people who suffered the disaster, people who had to get started a new life with nothing, and today is honored with this video, people represented with the old man of principle, who has a wound that never heals. sorry for my English!

    MacAskill trial rides across the silt and ruins with skills that seem to travel in a gravity defying bubble as he jumps fences, climbs trees, and rides over roof top to roof top. Exquisite, lyrically filmed and riden. Thank you for this visual exploration from a disabled cyclist with reawoken memories of riding.

    This morning it dawned on me that endeavors like this are a part of the surviving progression of the X games and the body of athletes and works around them that used to be widely popular and on network broadcast tv every Saturday and Sunday across the 90s and early 2000s I grew up on and in, but that kind of died and disappeared from the general public's eye again(video games franchises surviving as well being an exception) and I almost cried watching this.
    This might not be the most effective means of putting this message out, but speaking from the street and for myself, you guys might not know how deeply your support of these things is felt and how important it is to some of us. Geez I'm tearing up, so thank you Red Bull team, for things like this.

    I'll be honest, the beginning of this video put me in tears immediately talking about what happened here... It is so depressing seeing nature take place and ruin stuff on such a mass scale. It is somewhat disgracing riding on what use to be some's homes that are most likely buried within this torn city... I'm no hater, trials is amazing, I do bmx biking freestyle, street, parkstyle, dirt, all it but just wow... Still forever live Epecuén #Epecuén

    Man, there's nothing better than watching someone do what they were born to do. The skill is obviously off the chart but, the vision to see and create lines in a place full of busted concrete, bricks slippy rubble and rusty rebar..then figure a way to trick a feature most would find difficult to navigate on foot. I mean its seems more like it should be a level on a video game. Truly a privilege having his videos to watch at my leisure. I can honestly say, I'm literally never bored. TY

      emiliano castro amigo estuve leyendo mucho de esto y no es que quisieran, no se lo esperaban, el nivel del agua bajo y el malecón quedo seco, para satisfacer las necesidades del pueblo hicieron algo para traer de regreso el agua,no sabría decir como, pero la naturaleza trajo de vuelta el mar, mas aparte el que ya tenían, fue un mal proyecto que no se sabia que consecuencias tendría, perdón si te corregí amigo, la verdad no soy ni de argentina pero me parece interesante esta villa y sigo viendo información saludos desde mexico y perdón.

      gustavo franco Hace nada fui, segun dice en una hoja con la historia que te dan a la entrada se estaba secando, por lo que construyeron canales desde otros pueblos para volver a tener agua y una noche de mucha lluvia comenzo la inundacion, al otro dia ya estaba todo bajo el agua, ya que venia desde 5 lugares diferentes, todo al lago, desde el 85 hasta el 2010 inundado, una locura, igual ya se veia venir que se iba a inundar si construian los canales segun se dice, y se piensa en por el 2018 se va a inundar de nuevo

      te cobran 25 pesos la entrada, te dan un mapa y la historia del lugar, no es nada, igual esta "cercado" con alambrado jajaja, te mandas por donde queres :P, pero me parece bastante rata no pagar 25 mangos para ver eso (y por la misma entrada hay una pasada para atras que si te mandas ni te ven :v), podes salir y entrar todas las veces que quieras durante ese dia, te dan una entrada con una especie de logo que dice epecuen y la fecha

    • @ssantos014
      @ssantos014 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Solo hay cuidadores en las entradas, hay bastante gente de visita en el lugar, por las calles podes andar como quieras y podes meterte en las casas mientras no rompas nada, eso si, algunas tienen carteles de "peligro por derrumbe" (casi todos son hoteles lo que tienen eso) despues vas por donde queres

    A beautiful footage of Epecuen lake, I was visiting there a few days ago and talked to some former residents and the story it's not that one this old man's saying. Actually it was a human mistake not a weather wreck, and also there's no actual residents only people that are maintaining and taking care of the place and safety of visitors. But well, the essence of the lake, the sorrow, the ruins and the silence... everything all around it's breathtaking. You lived it Chris. Great artwork. Greetings from Argentina
