Director Ari Aster on MIDSOMMAR and Breakup Movies

Now that we’ve all seen Midsommar (you have seen Midsommar, right?), it’s time to start discussing the film’s deeper themes and meanings. And what better way to do that than from listening to the movie’s writer and director Ari Aster?
In the video below, Aster discusses some of the films that went into inspiring Midsommer as well as his hopes for the film’s eventual legacy, were he to get his druthers.

my guy, this movie, this work of ART, was the catharsis of my breakup. this was the movie i watched and resonated with as i slowly lost my mind into oblivion. i had completely dissociated and the only thing that i could equate my suffering to was this movie. also, Dani and I have the same birthday. on Midsommar. this movie is something i will forever cherish. thank you Ari. i needed this movie.

@@0MGitsRayRay No he's not. Its another horror. A 4 hour one called "Beau is afraid" Just because he calls it a comedy doesn't mean it's actually a comedy in a conventional sense. He called midsommar a breakup movie.
