They didn't change the name of the movie because of NAACP, they changed it because the movie was an publicity stunt from Quaker Oats to sell their new chocolate, which they named Wonka. They put Wonka in the name of the movie to sell more chocolate.
2:00 The original Pink Panther films aren't particularly children's films. The cartoons and the Steve Martin films were probably aimed more at kids than the Sellers films were. 6:19 Actually the animated BFG movie was the only adaptation of his work that he actually liked.
Technically Wonka had his own song in the 2005 film too, Wonka's Welcome Song, not from the book either, and while the children scenes were closer in the 2005 film. The Violet Beauregarde scene was nothing like it was in the book, the one from the 1971 film was closer, whereas the others were lesser like the book than the 2005 film. Isn't that weird?
Well, Roald cheated on Patricia Neal, made abhorrent comments about Jewish people and his original Oompa Loompa concept quite frankly sucked. He didn't always have the best judgement. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Dahl the writer--Just not the man. I like Spike Milligan, but I'm not sure he would've brought the nuance that Gene did. Wilder had good instincts. His Wonka was charming, suave, classy, funny, mad, soft-spoken, enthusiastic, sardonic, quirky, mad, edgy, sometimes sinister, often unpredictable but incredibly heartfelt. He made an impression despite entering the film later on. Peter Sellers could have been good, too. However, he didn't have a way with children. Seriously, he had a 4.5 million pound fortune but only left his daughter 800 pounds. Ironically, I prefer the timeless, concise Newley-Bricusse songs to Dahl's discordant, run on poems from his text. I like the original book but admire Mel's direction and honestly think that David Seltzer improved the story.
I actually prefer the Oompa Loompa songs to the book and 2005 film. The lyrics are much easier to remember, shorter, sweeter, and are simple life lessons for everyone instead of being aimed towards just one kid.
This is all wrong, it was Dahl that give the name which he got the idea from a boomerang his elder brother had made for him when he was young in which had named it Skilly Wonka.
Spike Milligan “was a bit too weird”?! It’s like saying water is too wet. Wonka was meant to be too weird!
Exactly!

I thought Roald Dahl liked the BFG as it washes his hands of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

spike milligan WAS A TERRIBLE CHOICE.
GENE WILDER WAS AMAZING

So…he would like the Tim Burton one then?
His wife and other family said he would, but I bet there are things he would dislike about that one too.
Waste of time! Quit showing the Johnny Depp ones!!
the first willy wonka is the best
His version is closer to the book than the Gene Wilder one
makes sense tbh
