These rivers are near to where gold has been found before. I used to think gold was only in igneous rock (from volcanoes) but I read that it sometimes spreads into nearby sedimentary rocks too. In May I'm going to some actual locations where gold has been found - so that will be a good test. Thanks for watching!
hi nick im also from surrey [shalfor, guildford] i travled the country prospecting for many years as my holidays. i recently moved to tones devon so i can explore more, im starting to build a map of gold locations and gaining permition in places i want to explore further. i was wondering if you had any joy as my first trips to devon were disheartening it took a lot of homework to build my map befor i started having reasonable finds. wales is still my favourite but devon is starting become close second.
No joy yet in Devon, although I am getting closer I think! You've probably seen it but there's a book "Gold in Cornwall and Devon" that's a good start, and there used to be BGS reports online but they've been taken down now. I've got a couple more spots I want to try before I give up. Good luck with your searches! :o)
A couple of places I've been in Scotland you do, but in England no (not sure about Wales). You're supposed to ask permission from the landowner for access too, although the places I've been are next to public footpaths, so I haven't yet, but I would if I thought there was a good chance of finding some gold there.
River 3 looks good mate. 👍
Thanks. I didn't have my kit with me, but it looks promising. It's on the run-off from Dartmoor (but not the Dart).
I would try too. The geology didn't look bad !

You don't now until you look bro 🤞
Thanks Chambo. Next trip is to a known gold location, so fingers crossed maybe something there.
Do you need a license to pan for gold?
