      There are so many forms of this plant, it is almost hard to believe. I think I like the dwarf variegated types the most, like Tamanishiki. Thanks for watching!

    I feel like that disclaimer at the end should have been mentioned at the outset 😒. And maybe again somewhere in the middle. Probably twice in the middle, not that it would help, lol (like moths to a flame). Great video as always, thanks for sharing. Looks like an amazing show to cash out on a retirement fund 😂

      +Brown Thumbs Indeed, fuukiran are dangerous to the pocket book once you get hooked. Luckily, I have gotten over the bug and now am satisfied to grow the ones I have already. Once in a while though, I see one that I "need" :)

      I'm glad you enjoyed it. I do speak about them a little bit on my blog, Botany Boy, and plan to add more in the future. botanyboy.org/category/neofinetia-falcata/ I may be putting up another show video about them as well. Thanks for watching!

    Does N.F. Yoroidoushi have mud roots? I recently got one and I was under the impresion that they had green root tips and green stems 🤔 mine has dark coloration in the stem and mud or redish root tips. But the shape of the plant really resembles a Yoroidoushi.

      Yes, that is a good idea. I will focus on that in a future video, I promise.

    Great informational video. You said in another video that you lived in Sasaguri. I used to live right over Yakiyama in Tagawa. Would you happen to know of any named varieties of fukiran found or cultured in Fukuoka?

    • @botanyboy1
      @botanyboy1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tagawa, nearly neighbors! Hmm, I don't know about any varieties of N. falcata from Fukuoka, but certainly there must be at least a few given that thousands have been registered. In the Fukuoka City area, Ogawa Garden, just south of Nishi-Ward of the city, has the most impressive public collection. In the local hills you don't see this species easily, in fact I've only located one small colony. I've been told that there remains a wild colony in the mountains near Asakura City, but they live only high in the trees these days since ones within reach were all taken years ago. I'm sure that the wilder parts of Kumamoto, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima still have sizable wild colonies though.

      Mahalo for the reply! Hopefully one day I'll be back to Fukuoka to check out the gardens. Keep up the great video work!

    Very informative video. I've always wanted a Seikai, but they would blow a cindering hole in my wallet. Unkai looks like a wonderful substitute!

    • @botanyboy1
      @botanyboy1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Even here they are not the cheapest. Unkai is a nice substitute and you should be able to get one for around half the price. Unkai also makes larger clumps than Seikai and is a much faster grower.

    • @NinjaXryho
      @NinjaXryho 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's brilliant. Seikai's flowers are really what interested me, so it's good news that Unkai grows faster. I just ordered some and must now negotiate my windowsill orchids to find extra space!

    those orchids are so damn expensive lol saw some going for 300,000 yen =O and i thought a 500 USD orchid was expensive...

    • @botanyboy1
      @botanyboy1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting. You can usually buy the common ones for under $100 US, and the more choice ones for less than $200. Of course large specimens are more expensive, and some are indeed silly expensive. Anything above $1000 is very unusual, but they exist!
