Planting 101: Organic Pest Control (using neem oil) Episode 05

Neem Oil is my "go-to" pest control agent. It's considered as one of the most effective and organic means for controling pests in your garden, because it can kill or repel more than 600 types of common pests. When the insect ingests the leaves, roots or stems of your plants that had been sprayed or infused with the neem oil solution, the ingredient in neem oil Azadirachtin interferes with its digestive system, resulting eventually in death. Neem also destroys the insect's reproductive system preventing it from further laying eggs. Insect larvae are also killed or repelled by this substance.
Neem oil is safe to humans and pets, and other beneficial insects and micro-organisms that are found in our environment. It can also be used to control fleas in pets and lice in humans.
