- I'm finally done! The animatic for "Invisible(Reprise)/On the Roof" and "Say My Name" is finished, and here it is! I just want to say thank you so much to every single person who was a part of bringing Beetlejuice on Broadway to life. It's such an incredible show that's brought me so much joy these last few months. I like to consider this video my send off for the show! Hope you all like it!

He needed a living person to say his name, and Lydia was his best option.
@@Lady-Seashell-Bikini More like only option, he doesn't just need it to be a living person, he needs it to be someone with enough natural spiritual ability they can see and/or hear otherworldly beings. Since if someone can't see or hear him then he has no way of convincing them to learn and then say his name.
Interesting Fact: In one of the earlier drafts of the Beetlejuice movie script, there was going to be an origin story to how Beetlejuice died (let's just say that he was drunk and couldn't figure out how to adjust a noose well).
So, it's kinda (probably unintentionally) powerful writing-wise that he would prevent Lydia from dying in a similar way, albeit the musical version of him has a different backstory since he’s a demon instead of a powerful ghost. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Even before he found out Lydia could see him, he sympathized with her. He may never admit it, but I think some part of him deep, deep, DEEP down didn’t want her to hurt herself!

Alex Brightman is a literal mutant born with abnormal vocal pipes. Like, he admitted it on television. He can hit gruff to high notes and it won’t hurt him.
I’m not sure if Brightman does it this way, but I saw a TikTok where the other BeetleJuice voice actor said how he did it.
The actor has a small white microphone on his head, it’s the same shade of white as his face paint so you won’t notice it unless you’re looking for it. Every BeetleJuice line is actually being whispered, and the microphone amplifies his voice.

Can we appreciate the fact that Shnikkels's Lydia genuinely shows some discomfort and concern over this creepy teleporting demon offering to kill her dad? This rendition really seems to show that she is not only aware of, but put off by how big of a threat Beetlejuice could be.

Man, you know seeing this song after invisible really pus things in perspective. From just a person trying to take advantage of somebody to somebody trying their best to just appeal to her. The only person that was able to see him in so long.

Gosh I love how expresive they are, like how at 3:27 you can see how frustrated Beetlejuice is, he looks like he wants to crush Lydia's head if he could, but two frames later his expresion turns to worry as he crawls towards her to beg more, because she and power over him and he's so desperate he doesn't even get up from his knees, IT'S SO GOOD!
POV: you're on the roof on this creepy old man appears then starts singing to you
A: sing with him
B: call the cops
C: sing with him til the cops come (all of the above)
D: just push him off the ledge
Or E: call the cops and yeet him off the roof

I love all of the allusions to the stage play you have in this. The character design, removing the scalp on “Assassinate!”, having BJ’s hand speak for Lydia when he’s trying to convince her, how the Maitlands end their possession dance. Just a great animatic and adaptation all around.
This Beetlejuice is SO magical and creepy🔥! Moments like 1:50, 1:53, 1:58, 2:19, 2:24, 2:33, 3:04, 3:31, 4:11, 4:16 make him look and seem like AN ACTUAL DEMON- it’s so good omg

This is hands down one of the best "Say My name" animatics I've ever seen. The composition is amazing and I love the subtle references to the actual movements from the musical.

Okay, I came here knowing nothing about this musical, but all I gotta say is that I've known Beetlejuice for like, six minutes, and I'm already low-key soft for him. Apparently upon metting a potential friend, the first thing he does is try to come up with ways to kill the source of her problems, and I must say he got the spirit. He a little confused, but he got the spirit.

This is both super accurate in that BJ looks like BJ's actual actor, yet you added a further level of expressiveness and really got the zany energy I associate with both the musical and cartoon versions captured in this. I love it. If they ever make another animated series they need you to do the character designs.

I always come back to this animatic, at least twice a year. Sometimes a LOT more. And I've said it before and I'll say it again. I love the choreography in this piece. It's fantastic. You used the whole damn scene, and didn't spare a single inch of space. You stuck to the original intention, but also added your own flair with expression and body language, and dammit... It worked.
Part of me wants someone to put this through one of those AI-assisted animation smoothers, part of me wants someone to hand draw more frames, and most of me knows that they really don't need to, because you have all the perfect frames. You made something that is technically an animatic, but still has so much life by just having a follow-through to certain body movements.

You know at anytime he could have won this musical back and forth until he decided to open his mouth and found out that he lost it at. 4:35. All the gestures he did 'even the begging' on his knees was for his own benefit in manipulation but this is where his truth and panic really came out.

This is a beautiful thing. That animation of him on his knees and they’re going back and forth was really something. So many animatics don’t have their characters move around and this was a real treat. Also nice touch on that one size change at 2:18!

It's weird cuz Movie BJ is an absolute dick I wouldnt want to be in the same city as. But animated and musical BJ is just a lovable goofball who sometimes goes a bit overboard.
I LOVE every part of this, and seeing the amount of blocking and the number of fun angles you put in made my brain hurt in a good, "holy shit this must've taken SO LONG" kind of way!!!
p.s., I love the fun motion blur you give to people's eyes when they move quickly, like at 2:00 and 3:07!! it's such a great detail that adds motion and personal style to these characters! I kept rewinding to watch those bits over and over lol :^)
Man, wish you were like 20 people so you could actually finish this animatic but no way a solo act could finish this. BUT MAN look at it, it's PERFECT for the actor and the personality. You captured the demon energy that beetlejuice has, sure, but so did every other animatic. But you also captured the other half. the UGLY, DIRTY, KINDA-GROSS side of him. And also the goofy over-hyped showmanship of him. the lights, the finger-in-the-ear YouuHOUAUUAUUAU're me! thing. It was perfect. You even have GREAT shot variety, great direction, great motion!!! It's... FLAWLESS. I usually offer critique for any animator I watch on youtube.. but like.. it's exactly what you need to see in an animatic!!!

DAAAAAANG this is phenomenal. The way you flow scenes together, keeping focal points clear and ready to lead the eye for the next frame all goes together so smoothly despite how fast some scenes go by. Nothing gets cluttered or hard to read. And the push and pull between them at 3:10 onward is WONDERFUL.
