I recently bought a lulu toy because I needed an everyday bag and wanted this brand. But not on the official website anymore, because there were only updated versions. They are small and expensive(( I am very glad that I found the old version, but I was surprised that its production date is autumn 2024. For some reason, I thought that they were discontinued earlier... I was glad that I found your review, it calmed me down.

I was in Paris last week and I bought the new small Loulou in natural tan. I wasn’t planning to make this purchase but I saw it and immediately loved the shape and color. The SA said it was the new style, and the old style is no longer available. It was an impulse so I didn’t really consider the lambskin. I would prefer calfskin for more durability. I do love the leather interior and the pouch and mirror are nice touches. I’ve been looking for info about this on you tube- this is the first mention that I have come across- I think you broke the story!

That is such a good point, thanks for sharing your experience! I really like the style of the original loulou and if I knew this was a bag I was going to buy and love, especially with the bonus savings of the VAT I would’ve jumped on the chance too. The toy loulou is still a bag I’m interested in and if I can get it for an even better savings preloved or in a YSL outlet even I would definitely still consider buying the bag. The small loulou is also a beautiful bag and great size too, congrats on your new handbag 🤗
Great informative video! In principle, I like how the updated version looks, only too bad the Toy is gone. Updating your classics is risky, those with the old Loulou might not be happy. I'm curious to see what will happen. I've been trying to sell some YSL items, but resell value is dramatic atm. 😵
I’m with you on this one Lo! I think this new style is really pretty and I think it is an elevated version of the original. I think the problem is that the people who purchased the original will certainly be upset. As you mentioned the resell value for YSL already isn’t that great so with this style being changed the original will surely lose more value. For me though as someone who was interested in the original style I might be able to get a deal preloved, I really like the toy loulou! Aside from all of this I’m wishing you luck on selling your YSL items, I know you have some great pieces! 🤞
Very interesting and good point. We’ll have to see what happens now that they have made this change. I also feel that one of the reasons Chanel’s classic flap has stood the test of time is because they keep making it the same way. That way it doesn’t seem “old” or “outdated” to us. I do think the updated version is a good refresh but is very risky, like you previously mentioned.
Such a good point you make here in regards to the Chanel classic flap, when they made the classic flap they didn’t discontinue the reissue which was coco Chanel’s design they created something similar but something that was its own. This is also why these bags from any year are so valued. I think it’s a risky move to redesign the whole line, we’ll see how it works out for the brand 😅
I'm sure you'll do a video on this again in 6 months time to keep us updated Alana. 😂But you ladies really got me thinking about this. Changing the silhouette is quite drastic for a classic. The traditional holy grail bags have also had minor updates in the past, but if the Chanel classic flap would only come in a rectangular or the Lady Dior/Birkin/Kelly only in an East-West style from now on, we'd be stunned. Imho, I think YSL's main issue is not how the Loulou looks, but how expensive it's become over the years and that'll not be solved with the introduction of an even more expensive Loulou. 🤷♀

The fact that Saint Laurent used to be a luxury brand that had quality and stylish handbags for a more reasonable price added to it's success. I don’t consider a bag to be full leather if it is not leather or suede on the inside. I am a little concerned they made the outside lambskin. I think they should have made the interior lambskin and calfskin exterior.
I do agree with you, technically if the bag is not leather lined or lined with suede it isn’t full leather. They made some valued improvements IMO but I do think that this bag was better off with the calfskin exterior as the lambskin is so delicate. I feel like they have to make changes to keep ppl buying, as you said you like your bags to be the current version. I have two original style loulous size toy and small but I haven't used either in 2 years. And probably if I don't sell them soon the resale will tank. It is interesting to think about how the fashion industry is constantly evolving! You make a good point, perhaps people were not wearing the original loulou as much as they once were so they took the trend of the east west style bags and made some changes. I have been watching the original style loulou on the preloved market since the new version was launched and I haven't noticed any significant decrease in prices yet. The new release will bring interest to the bag style, some times the discontinued version will even pick up momentum as a lower cost alternative to the new version. But once its been a few years of new version, it will be more readily available for resale, and the old version value declines. Unless the consumer feels it's a true classic. Time will tell.
One day, we walked into a store in the mall and my friend was looking for a new small backpack/wallet. We pointed to one on the wall and the salesperson said it was $22 and my friend said "that's a bargain". When I realized it was $2200, I considered buying the *xbagy* here
I think its too little too late. I love that they got rid of the inner separating compartment and given us extras but it's popularity has died down. They were too greedy and massively increased their prices. For example in Australia they increased the small loulou from aud$3600 to $4200. It made people look around at other bags in the same price range.

As a stay at home mom, is there anything wrong with carrying a neverfull with a *hotdups* ! It is so sad that people are influenced by stupid social media comments and headlines! If you like something, go with it! Carry the bag you like and that you can afford!
I did notice a couple of items had jumped up in price recently, yes! The small Ophidia shoulder bag being one of them. Was there a bag you were eyeing that you noticed increased as well?

As a newer brand, Polène has yet to prove itself in the high-end market through innovation, quality, and consistency. It feels premature for them to position themselves at this level without earning the trust and loyalty of their clients.
I think as of right now I prefer the look of the old loulou especially in the toy size because I liked the casualness of the leather strap. But I also think the new design is pretty as well and I appreciate the upgrades!

Not happy with it at all I love YSL and I had the small loulou on my wishlist for 2025 as a mum I need space & the new one just does not do that. It should have just been a whole new model

Also the fact that the new version is in lamb skin makes it a bit tricky to carry as an everyday bag. The calfskin was definitely more durable. I’m hoping you can still cross this bag off your wishlist this year, even if it’s preloved!

I just bought the small Loulou in Paris a few weeks ago. The SA told me in hushed tones that it was going to be discontinued. It made me want it more!
Also I saved between 750 and 1,000 buying it in Paris. I can’t remember exactly how much bc I bought a few LV’s as well.

also east-west is usually a trend that hits hard but moves fast, better to do east west in a less expensive version.
