    I did a hack to my pull start and EZ start about 15 years ago. What you do is put a fuel fitting through the pull start. Drilling a hole right through the center of the mechanism so as not to mangle the string and bearing holder. After you've mounted the fitting (with a little fuel tubing) to the mechanism, you can now spray a quick shot of WD-40 into the pull start that will soak the one way bearing and viola your one way bearing is working again until you need another shot. I don't remember where I saw someone do that. It must have been on a traxxas forum, but it'll work on any RC that uses a one way bearing. The hack has greatly increased the life of my one way bearings. This will come in really handy when manufactures discontinue a model or part.

      hey my dude! great idea, really appreciate the hint and for keeping nitro alive. Ive been doing another fix lately, I've been lightly sanding (dremeling) the starting shaft to create a little more friction for the bearing. And guess what? It's worked. the bearing catches much easer, but you really have to be careful and only do light scoring of the shaft.

    Good video. I have one of those with the same engine except it's a. 15. Same deal with the 2 speed. I have had it over 15 years. I could put it away for months and a year or too and it would always start and run like new. I just dug it out of my dads shed after sitting for over 5 years. Pull start is alittle stuck. Gonna take it apart and clean it up and getting her rippin again. Seeing this video brings back so many memories.

    Great information. I myself have never had a one way bearing slip unless it was worn out and needed replacement. I always put a little 3 in 1 oil or WD-40 on the needles when I go through my engines. Maybe I've just been lucky but I believe it's just fine to lubricate them. • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @FargothPL
    @FargothPL 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    A carburettor cleaner (especially the better ones) can damage various rubber seals. For example, rubber o-rings will begin to swell and will not return to their original size.
    One time after I unscrewed the HSN and couldn't put it back in - the original o-ring gasket did not want to go inside. When I finally manage to do it, screwing the needle in, it cut off all the way around. After that, the HSN was loose and started to unscrewing by itself while driving. Since then, I stopped unscrewing HSN and I use only a compressor, WD40 and ARO to clean the carburettor.

    • @FargothPL
      @FargothPL 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By the way ... As for maintenance one-way bearing. Cleaning and matting the shaft with sandpaper only works for a short time. The best way to make a permanent repair slipping in your pull starter is to replace the one way bearing with a new one. Old hex one-way bearing can be rebuilt by removing the old bearing and pressing inside a new one in its place. For 10 such bearings, I paid about $4 and I just replaced two of them in my old VX18 engine. Otherwise, it's a frustrating endless struggle with your pull starter.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey buddy! thank you for watching and all your advice. you're right about alot of this stuff, I agree. As an experiment in a newer video of mine I sanded and used a Dremel on an HPI G3.0 engines starting shaft to fix a slipping bearing to test out if it was a permanent fix. I can tell, I can still easily start that engine even after a quart of fuel though it, and it does not seem to be slipping at all, even with the old bearing. I was totally surprised myself.

    • @FargothPL
      @FargothPL 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hybrid32494 Thanks for the answer and for the great videos. They give me a lot of joy and are very interesting!
      I haven't watched that video yet, but weren't you worried that you would scratch too deep the shaft, with a Dremel and these deep scratches would faster wear or will destroy the one-way bearing?
      Is this a permanent solution... I don't think so. These bearings have plastic cages for rollers - sooner or later, they will wear out and possibly fall apart.
      Same with the crankshaft shaft - will slowly polish itself.
      While struggling with this problem, I came to the conclusion that saving them is not worth the effort, and this slipping is the final stage of one-way bearings life and I am replacing them for my own peace of mind.
      If that bearing would fell apart at high engine RPM, jammed the crankshaft and destroyed connecting rod, I would be very, very angry lol

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FargothPL so far I have been waiting for the moment the bearing begins to slip again, but nothing is wrong anymore. Im surprised myself. I used a basic Dremel sanding bit and just went around the starter shaft. Ofcours on bearing that sit inside the engine like on many big block motors, I would not attempt this. But on the basic HPI g3.0 engine its very easy, also easy on any traxxas motor.

  • @gorillabeartech4577
    @gorillabeartech4577 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love it when companies add those racing aluminum or steel plates underneath their cars. Hpi and arrma are known for craftsmanship like that. Traxxas seldomly does that. You gotta spend more money to prevent more damage which is alright with me but still kinda poor. I love Traxxas regardless but damn man they just recently started adding more aluminum to their newer models because of the competition lol. If they made their electric models just like some of their nitro models it would be more worth buying. To be honest though Traxxas's models are durable as HECK regardless and there material that they use for their chassis's is amazing quality for the majority of the time. T-Bone chassis's can remedy that though but 35-85 bucks for a T-Bone chassis is slightly insane. Sometimes I worry wnout cracking my rustlee, bandit and 1/16 e Revo chassis's lol.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you're right man, although the plastic chassis are not as strong, they are flexible. The flex is the compromise but they rarely break also because they are lights. I actually don't like alot of aluminum because it bends easy and screws can loosen up there, plus its heavier. Some parts should be aluminum though, like shocks and steering components.

    • @gorillabeartech4577
      @gorillabeartech4577 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hybrid32494 Yeah it's a b**** at times man...... I just don't like how the plastic material or whatever it's made of shreds up easy from scaping/rubbing up across a sidewalk cement curb. It peels and shreds alittle too easy that's the only thing I don't like about them.... Yes you are right they should supply their models with aluminum built shocks instead if they won't make the chassis that way. Aluminum front and rear shock towers would be great to.

I still have the waterproof Stock Traxxas steering servo attached to it to. I was trying to get rid of the chassis since I sold off all the stock electronics except for the steering servo in it. I even took the 48 pitch gears off of it and may sell them. I sold the stock TQ Traxxas remote, receiver and Titan 12 turn brushed 550 motor and xl-5 esc plus the stock front alias and rear alias wheels for it. I just have the cars chassis with an attached RPM black front bumper and stock shocks. I'm really thinking of converting it to a 1/8 the scale Draven3907 project. By the way checkout Draven3907 on TH-cam his rustler went up to 134 mph I believe. It was a fully blown stock rustler with very minimal upgrades using a 1/8 brushless system and 32 pitch mod 1 gears with aftermarket wheels like foams and such. That means I'd have a mamba monster 1/8th e Revo and a mamba monster 1/10 rustler or whatever system I put in it if I happen to not want to spend that 250-350 bucks on a mamba monster castle system. I don't know what I'll be doing with it but I'm thinking aftermarket gearbox and maybe an aluminum custom underplate for it. I just don't like how the stock Traxxas Rustler and Bandit chassis both peel back easy when you hit a sidewalk curb. I just washed it with alcohol and soaked in WD-40 and it runs perfect now. My front main bearings were the biggest issue. You gotta tear down the engine from the back, don't remove the sleeve or piston. Id just remove the carb and spray nitro cleaner or carb cleaner down the high speed needle valve and watch it come out. Should be fine. Glow plug is bright. Any ideas? Would to rich of a lsn cause this? I opened the throttle a little on the trim and it idled up a little. Then slowly died out.

      hello! It's almost always a tuning problem. You really have not told me enough to be 100% helpful in my comment . But I will still give you some good advice on what to try. If you notice the engine is extremely rich and has lots of smoke and oil coming from the pipe, you need to lean out the High Speed Needle (means turn it clockwise like 1/4 turn then test out again). You need to do some trial and error tuning on the High Speed needle and see what is making it run better, then let me know. We can go from there. Sounds like it's bogging down because there is too much fuel and oil in the system.

      Hey dude, are you just getting new clutch shoes and re-using the same spring? or are you getting the new spring too? Are you sure your clutch is installed correctly and isn't crooked at all? You might need a better heavy duty clutch setup. Which RC and which clutch are you using?

    • @93jake81
      @93jake81 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hybrid32494 the RC it's on is the rally monster. The spring itself breaks and the clutch shoes are perfectly fine. So I buy the clutch shoes and spring together and install it. I might have to check if it's crooked and maybe see how much a heavy duty clutch setup is. Thanks for suggesting some things

      IF possible you should get the HPI racing clutch, its about 16 bucks normally. I think this one would work for yours, make sure to compare the pictures of this one and your actually one. HPI also made an adjustable racing clutch with different settings, not sure if it's discontinued now.

    Hey man I need some help with my engine, will my engine be affected by running short fuel tubing? And for the compression I can turn my engine over with my finger, does that mean I have a dead engine? The engine gets harder to spin if I have fuel in the cylinder, if it’s just air it still has resistance but isn’t that hard to turn compared to my new novarossi.
    Thanks man

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey my dude! Yes, the length of your fuel tubing is pretty important, try for 6-8 inches of fuel tubing if possible. Most new traxxas have around a foot of it to begin with, btw. Also you don't want the back pressure tubing going to the pipe to be more than about half the fuel tubing itself. BTW, your engine sounds pretty normal, you should be able to spin the engine over your finger with some tension ofcourse. And yes, it will get tougher to spin over with fuel in the engine, thats normal. Basically just keep running it until you notice it starts to overheat or hold a poor tune, that will be the best obvious sign of when to replace or rebuild, you know!!

      @nitrogas5719 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey buddy. It sounds like you tuned it to run very rich, as you can already tell. Did you mess with the low speed needle on the side of the carb? It should be flush with the carb body as it says on every single traxxas manual. At this point keep running it and adjust your high speed needle by 1/4 turn untill you see its not getting as much fuel and not cutting out. Let me kno where you are at dude, thanks for watching!!

I used a 35 dollar Flysky FS-gt3b model (look it up on my channel, you will see me drive almost every of my rcs with it). ITs got 10 model memory and cheap receivers with great range and failsafe built in. Chances are your radio gear is bad and it was applying throttle on it's own. Hello, it sounds like your clutch is broken and/or the spring is loose. Do the wheels spin pretty quick while the car is idling when you lift it off the ground? That is a good sign that your clutch is engaged. Remove the motor and the clutch bell and examine the clutch and spring. Let me know.

    • @newscooler12316
      @newscooler12316 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hybrid32494 no its not the clutch it spins free. I think it might be the exhaust maybe cuz it wants to start with it off (its a custom exhaust)? but my other engine i was using (same size engine) ran with the same exhaust fine so idk.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey, it can't be the exhaust, If there was no backpressure it would just not start at all, it's not linked to the wheels in any way. I still think you have a clutch spring issue. It may look normal but after a few years they just don't hold well anymore. Is there any way you could try the clutch from your other engine to troubleshoot and eliminate this as the problem??
