THANK YOU UNCLE KHONG. I'm a 36 year old man going through midlife crisis trying to learn how to drive manual and kononnya wanna be a racer.. I watcha lot of videos but Khong-san's video's easy to understand because he is local, simple, straight forward, doesn't make it sound hard so u dont think its hard and easy to understand.. Long life to you Mr. Khong!
Uncle Khong, you are an absolute genius, after watching this one video, my gear shifting is so smooth, I am always excited to drive, I don't know why these techniques are not taught in normal driving lessons. Thanks for making it so simple to understand and practice.🙂
Excellent techniques. I've been driving manual transmission for 30+ years and now teaching my kid(s). I'll show my daughters this video. Again thanks for the technical explanation. Practice is definitely key. Was thinking of going to Auto trans in a Lexus until I found the IS350 avail in manual. Long live MANUAL TRANSMISSION!!! - Pank 05-Aug-21
You are the first professional driver I have seen on here teaching the right method. All of the others teach you to rev while your foot is still on the clutch after selecting the next gear. That will make for smoother shifts but does nothing to help select the next gear or protect the syncro's. Your way does both and makes for smoother shifts. Thank you. Now I just have to get my size 14 feet to cooperate and I'll be fine.
Hi YS, awesome guide and easy to understand, not forgetting the consistent advise on driving defensively! Many of your followers will be dying for MCO to be over in order to practice this! hehehe..salute!
When I was 16 my dad taught me how to drive manual. I remember the first time I tried heel toeing, if I wasn't wearing the seat belt I would've slammed my face into the wheel. Good memories😂
stopped driving manual second day after getting license.. the instructor used to teach us to step on throttle by a little while releasing clutch.. now I know it's rev matching..
i didnt move straight to braking and blipping. I started with just blipping first, just to know how much (throttle) is enough and the timing to release the clutch. I practice it while on straights, ie. drop gear from 4 to 3 to overtake. Started with the basics, from same-slot/gate (4 to 3), then only cross gate from 3-2 (like in 3:27). Once I know the throttle and clutch timings, and executed it smoothly, then only added the braking element.
Same thing. Clutch twice, and you blip the throttle when in neutral. That brings the gearbox up to speed also. Very useful for cars with busted synchros.
Thanks YS. A professional definitely makes it looks easy, us amateurs will need LOTS of practice. Excellent advise about not resting left foot on clutch pedal and more importantly, the consequences of doing so. After all, most modern cars have a left foot rest anyway. Learnt a lot from this video and looking forward to your next lesson. Thumbs up!
YS Khong Driving I was checking others comments just before wanted to say something about the 3rd feet 😂. Uncle is always an interesting guy and so his fans
I got another tip try putting your toe on the upper portion of the brake(recommended with your toe thumb) reason is LEVERAGE shorter distance from the pivot point of the brake pedal less force applied(less likely to accidentally brake too much ,more effort to brake

good afternoon, I'm excited to see it, I want to know how, when you want to drop gear 4 press the clutch and press the oil a little, right? why do you need to press the oil a little, I don't understand, besides, in how many km per hour can you drop gear 4 or 3 , under 100km can you drop gear? Thank you
Double clutching for next video huhu had a problem in maintaining the brake force while double clutching or maybe i just need to improve my heal & toe technic haha btw great video uncle!!! keep it up & stay safe
thanks uncle. great tutorial and you chose a car so worthy for it. been practising this for years with my uncle's wira. i drive a KE70 and the gas pedal is higher than brake pedal so I can do heel to toe thing. So usually I rev higher first before change gear or match the gear ratio to the speed so that the gearbox doesn't jerk. working so far.
Dis you know that you can bend the gas pedal a bit to lower the height of it is too high? Normally the gas pedal is below, and when brake is depressed near fully, the two are about the same level.
@@YSKhongDriving yes uncle i know. The gas pedal was made high to accomodate more space/length to depress it. 80s cars. I try to shorten it and see if its possible. Once again, thank you for this video.
Thank you Sir. This video is a pure guide on rev matching & heel toe. I have saved this as a bible :) Can you let me know if frequent gear shifts result in faster wear and tear of the clutch ? Here you are basically going fast as to race. But in a normal daily driving will such frequent shifts lead to clutch worn out much sooner ? if so by how many kms ?
I would advice ypu to just do it like everybody else to pass the test. Trying to impress him will not work; it might stress him more, and he may fail you.

Thanks. I made it simple and easy to learn. The idea of heel n toe is to save your gearbox and keep your car in balance, so ot does not matter if you are fwd, rwd or awd.
Double D Clutch (Master It)✨ + Rev Match (Medium)🤏🏻 Couse of still driving 1.0 cc below😅 A Big Thanks to you master! looking forward to be ur passenger while u driving FAST at the same time SAFE!🤣
I struggle to understand one minor thing about timing. Is it important to blip the throttle after we shift the gear in, right before we release clutch? Or we can do it both in same time. Currently i am doing the blip while i am shifting, but maybe i am doing it too early, because often there is small "jerk" from the engine which i am not pleased with. From what i've found it should not matter as long as i hit right revs. Thanks for any input on this.
Lovely tutorial Sir!!! One more thing want to clarify for the heel and toe is that how much gas should we input when we are braking? For the same speed rev matching, it’s quite straightforward. Say 3rd gear in 40miles normally would be 2500rpm for my car and downshifting to 2nd at the same speed would be 4000rpm. But when we are doing heel and toe, the speed is slowing down, how do we know how many rev needed to be raised in order to get it done smoothly and perfectly? Thank you so much! 🙏🏻
Thank you for this tutorial... it was very educational. May i ask , what about those driving an auto , how do we ensure our safety going in and out of the corners . This is of course the does not have a paddle shift . Would appreciate if you can enlighten us
Question: I saw that you did not look at the tachometer when you blip the throttle to rev match. You only look straight on the road .How do you know how much rev you are at right after you blip the throttle ? If you disengage the clutch when the revs are higher than what your downshifted gear is suppose to go at the speed, the car will lurch forward. How do you prevent that from happening ? Probably if you are driving the same car for many years , you can get accustomed to the sound of the engine, but that is not the case for you. It is a foreign car to you every time, every car has a different gear ratio and a different throttle input response.
It's by listening, muscle memory, experience. If you have to look, it's too late. In a heel n Toe situation you would be looking at the corner, and how to take it. You have no time to be looking at rev counter
Recommended is about 500 rpm to match. Try practicing it on a stationary position, just by blipping the throttle and look at the rpm. Keep practicing until you get the feel and constantly getting to 500 rpm, once you used to it,automatically you don't need to look at your tachometer and can just by feeling the right blip and focus on the road.
