    TH-cam is crawling with guitar wizards these days; a whole lot of talent out there. But I've got to say, in terms of tone, expressiveness and phrasing, I think Rick is maybe the best of the bunch.

      Dank Meemees The question is; why is this truly gifted guitarist not playing in front of packed music halls. The reason is this; true and expressive music is no longer appreciated by the masses in this modern day culture. This new generation of millennials whose souls are buried in a three inch cell phone screen refuse to be educated in the art of MUSIC. It’s not “cool” anymore to call Earth, Wind, and Fire or Stevie Ray Vaughn as relevant. They would rather accept auto-tuned nonsense because it’s up to date and current. If it’s new, it must be good, right? WRONG!!! Years ago, I saw Carlos Santana play in front of a half packed Oak Mountain Amphitheater in Birmingham, Al. Cell phones were nonexistent. BUT, because we were so into this musical legend’s passion and genius, he graciously entertained us for 2 and a half hours. We just absorbed what this gifted guitar legend had to offer. Will never forget that night.

    I come back to this track every few months when I’m in the mood. If I let my guard down this song will make me lose some tears when that second hook hits. To this day I hold the opinion that this is the greatest example of a musician making a guitar sing.

    Over the left knee and centralized guitar placement as seen here seems to be most proper and natural. Rick’s head position looking straight down while playing beyond the 12th fret appears so natural, and with best peripheral sight when playing below it. Everything about Rick’s playing is so efficient and economical. Perfection!

  • @chriswalshcustomguitars3962

    This will go down in history as one of the best lead guitar compositions ever. You've basically perfected every technique, and that effortless approach you have let's you be as focused as possible on getting everything from those timeless melodies. It's a joy to watch.
    My little boy is a huge fan, by the way. He's only two but his favourite song ever is 'Guitar Tock', which is your version of Time! You wanna see his little hands when you go full shred in the middle haha.

    On a more serious note.... Ab. no seriously, the chorus melody is really nice and melodic. I also love the arps going along with the synth. I always wanted a MIDI pickup so I could just play a line and record the MIDI along with it and be done instead of having to play the line again on the keyboard.

    I can definitely hear Satriani in there but also a hint of Greg Howe (4:25) and some Guthrie Govan (Waves sliding). Lots of styles in a big melting pot of coolness. :) I just realized I bruised the tip of my left index finger so no guitar for a while for me. :(

    • @ottovombaum2993
      @ottovombaum2993 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, no never it's like Satriani or Greg Howe and nothing Guthie Govan. It's only Rick and his strongly classic background that it's make his one musikstyle.

    • @TruthSurge
      @TruthSurge 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Um, everyone has their influences and Satriani IS one of Rick's influences. Maybe you didn't know that.

    • @ottovombaum2993
      @ottovombaum2993 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, everyone have influences from everyone that's is always so in the music history. Which pieces of Satri or GGovan do you mean?

    • @TruthSurge
      @TruthSurge 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing in particular. It's just very clear that ONE of his influences is Satriani. I think he even mentions it in one vid AND he does a cover of one tune, I believe. The little slides backwards to a note and the legato stuff. I'm not saying he's copying Satch or anyone. I'm saying that EVERYONE has their own influences and heroes. I have mine. Ace Frehley. Brian May. Neil Schon. Tom Scholz. Van Halen. Ted Nugent. Tony MacAlpine. Malmsteen. Randy Rhoads. Satriani. A hint of Vai but not much. Gary Moore but only indirectly as in I never copied him but I heard him off and on and I sometimes play a LITTLE like him when he goes melodic.
      Most of the people I learned from was from the 70s and very early 80s. I'm not really a shredder.

    • @ottovombaum2993
      @ottovombaum2993 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If one likes a musical then you whistle it through the whole day. My wife is going to mind if I do this the whole day :-). Thus I understand the influence of music hahahahhahaaaa....... I know Rick's music not so long but the guitarists you've enumerated. Have several disks and CD from you this heoroes. I have 10 years of music made in the 70er. But more like Santana played. Not shredderd Musik. I don't like fastest and more suuuuperfasted musik like Paul Gilbert (Sorry). But l like the old scool Musik like Queen, F. Zappa, Then years After, Depp Purple, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Cream, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joblin and Jimmi Hendrix and so on.............
