  • Hey guys!!
    So we are to our 3rd progress video of this series!! Now it is time to do the BUTTERFLY pull up. Remember all of this should be done in progression and do not RUSH the process. Take small bits and pieces, and put them in when you can.
    The butterfly is a technique and a skill movement. Only way to get better at skills is practice! Start small, and work your way bigger and bigger. If it feels out of place, come back to it! Its okay!!
    Next we will go over the bar muscle up!!
    We are on the road for MAYHEM this week so will try to keep you guys up to date as much as possible. Thank you for all the messages and comments about this weekend!
    So much to come at you this weekend!!

    Thanks so much, once again amazing advise and content guys?!?! My goal was always trying to master the butterfly pullups, I didn't even realise that kipping pullups was a totally different movement, as I noticed on you last video 😅 After watching this video I realise what I always struggled with this movement is timing. I think I need a take a step back and definately try master the basic pullup and kipping pullup 1st before advancing to the butterfly pullup. Even with these drills on this video it will definately help me a lot and even started doing smaller circles on the butterfly pullups... 😃

    I waited! :) Thank You, Kristi! Thank You, Pat! basically, we used strict pull-UPS, people began to practice butterfly with the advent of crossfit (in Russia)...but many look incredulously at this exercise, even contemptuously...do not understand especially those who work ONLY on building back muscles..they mistakenly believe that this style is for those who are looking for an "easy" way to pull up

      Start with small sets, or for butterfly the circles. So it allows you to get in a lot more REPS and practice in. Full exertion for say 10 reps will only allow x amount of those techniques/ while smaller sets let you get in more practice!

    Thank you so much for this! I've been playing around with butterfly pullups since I've gotten the kipping pullups pretty solid, but I have a competion in less than 2 weeks that has max unbroken pullups as one of the extra point opportunities. So I'm really trying to see if I can nail these down. How do I get my chin over the bar without hitting it on the bar? I'm pretty comfortable with the circles and the movement itself but when I try to actually pull over the bar I'm literally just an inch or two from being high enough, or i get high enough and almost hit my chin, is that just a lack of strength? Or something to work on in the technique area?

    • @Kristi-Eramo-OConnell
      @Kristi-Eramo-OConnell  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You don't really NEED to do butterfly in my opinion. I use it because I compete and it is faster and the other girls also use it so I need to be able to compete! Kipping Pull ups would be an alternative to not compromise your back OR strict pull ups or ring rows!

  • @DonVaillancourt
    @DonVaillancourt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi kristi, one thing you didn't cover in the kipping pull-ups and the butterfly pull-ups is the grip. I noticed that Pat does the thumb wrap around and you do the suicide grip. I used to think the reason people would go flying off the bar was complacency, but I was told that it's usually due to the suicide grip. I find the suicide grip much easier, but Pat seems to be pretty good at wrapping his thumb around. What are your thoughts on that?

    • @Kristi-Eramo-OConnell
      @Kristi-Eramo-OConnell  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The best grip is going to be wrapping your Thumb around the bar! Sorry we did not cover that, we will cover it in the Bar MU video! Wrapping your Thumb around the bar is going to get the bar deeper into your palm and activate your lats more (almost like a false grip). It will also keep you more secure on the bar so you do not fly off. I was not taught this when I started and have had a hard time breaking the habit of suicide grip. I will wrap my thumb when I absolutely have to but it is still not comfortable for me! Working on breaking the habit!
