    I love to cut zinnias for vases to put around the house. This is a win-win for me. Thanks for the video.

    I pruned mine a lot earlier, after two sets of leaves ,and got great results.

      Good to hear! Pruning definitely makes a more bushier, productive plant.

      You'll be amazed at how they start to "bush out" once you cut back that first bloom.

    I had not thought of doing that to them, much better than one flower on top, thanks

    I do this with my pepper plants. It’s called “topping”. They bush out and cause more blooms, thus more peppers.

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We've heard of folks doing this with peppers. Might try it with a few of ours this year.

    • @benb7727
      @benb7727 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hoss Tools Yep! They stay low and bushy. They not gonna get anywhere near titty high.

      @@gardeningwithhoss Been doing this also the last 2 years on my peppers and my peppers no longer require staking and twice as much fruit. Wait till the plant has about four sets of true leaves (usually when the plant is about 6-8" tall) and then top. I thought this was BS when I first heard about it but gave it a try, glad I did.

      I’ve been eyeing my pepper seedlings and wondering if I should try topping them, now I know I should. Tried it once with another type of plant a prior year and it really helped keep it from getting out of control. Thanks for the tip!

    How many blooms can you typically get off one bush?

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends. If you pinch off the early blooms and keep the blooms cut; the more blooms it will produce.

    Can I keep pinching zinnia seedlings at their first set of true leaves for a few weeks to keep them compact in pots? Will this make the stalk thicker and will they still bloom later once I see that they won't get too leggy?

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When the first bloom forms, cut the top off the entire plant. That will make them more bushy and better for containers.

    Can you use the fertilizer injector through just plain sprinkler?

    • @krisoluich9119
      @krisoluich9119 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      josh ward Fertilizer on leaves is never a good idea; especially calcium nitrate.

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can if you're using something like a fish emulsion or our micro-boost. But high nitrogen fertilizers like our chilean nitrate or 20 20 20 would have the potential to burn the leaves a little, especially in this heat we've been having.

    Hello sir. My plants are doing really good but i noticed that they're getting leggy. So when i tried to prune it, the stem died. Any ideas how to deal with that?

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Zinnias can usually take some pretty hard pruning and be fine. We like to prune the first bloom to make the plants more bushy.

    Also how long do you let the onions dry?

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We let them dry in the sun for 2-3 days, then put them in the shade under the barn.

  • @Jungloasis

    My dog bit the top off of a seedling plant about 3 inches tall without any blooms..I planted it anyways because the base was still fine, how will that affect the plant? Will it bloom?

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Should be fine. We recommend the tops be pinched off for more blooms.
