    What a wonderful, thorough video, thank you! I started my first cut flower garden in my small yard this year at the age of 40 thanks to generous people like you making it so easy to learn and feel like it's possible to newbies. I'm enjoying watching the pollinators so much! Going to try even more next year. :) Now back to watching more of your lovely vids. Have a great rest of the flower season!

    Nice explanation. Another thing that’s great about zinnias is the size of the seeds make them really easy to sow. I volunteer at Lake Forest Elementary School Butterfly garden and the children love holding zinnia seeds in their hands and counting out a few for each cup of soil. 🌼

    I like the idea of cycling the zinnias into the garden. In the past I always just started my zinnias inside and when they got big enough I plant them outside. But I think this summer I'm going to have zinnias growing inside all the time under grow lamp and then when they're ready just put them in the dirt. It is a good idea

    Oh my God, the color varieties that you got are stunning. I love the vibrant colors offset by that light lavender. And the peachy color you showed in the beginning was stunning too. I have some growing right now. They are just babies though, about 3-4 sets of leaves. I think I will go ahead and start pinching. On the other hand, we have had so much rain that it seems like they slowed down their growth a little bit. I really hope that by pinching them they get branchy and keep growing strong. I only have like 10 plants because I planted some rather old seed, but I am totally going to root the tips that I pinch out and do my best to keep doubling their numbers. Wish me luck! :)

    All my little sprouts died after 2 inches. I can't tell what is wrong. Whether I over water them, I give them the wrong soil, or if the sun is SO hot that the soil is drying to crisp up top, but still moist below :^(((( But i will keep trying because they give so many seeds in the packets! Pointers?

    • @TONYAwiththeflowers
      @TONYAwiththeflowers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're starting the seeds outside, try moving the tray to a sheltered place during the hottest part of the day. It sounds like your tray may be drying out too much while the seedlings become established. Good luck!

      They should be okay. 😀😀😀 As long as there's no frost predicted, the seedlings should be fine. Zinnias dislike the cold, so the growth might be slow at first. Once the temperatures warm up, they'll start growing quite quickly. Good luck! 🌱🌱🌱🌱

    In your experience, are the Benary's Giants really better, more resistant to the powdery mildew? I imagine, that the successive sowing, getting rid of older plants really helps, too.
    I always get mildew on old plants (Cal Giants, etc.)

    I don't know if you remember me, but I asked a question about weak growth in zinnia, you gave some pretty good advice! I wish I could show you my progress lol we had a hurricane recently and I was afraid I was going to lose my whole garden. Especially because I had just replanted my seedlings 2 weeks before the storm and they were just getting some height on them. I have one plant that is blooming from my original experiment. She is a beautiful "Giant Enchantress" I'm so excited my first bloom! If you would like to add me on Snapchat you can!
    @oliveravens thanks for your advice!

    Some critter ate every single one of my zinnia seedlings this year, the moment they popped out of the ground. Sheared off the stems at ground level. :(

      Work the soil and then direct sow. You dont have to use mulch, but make sure to keep the weeds down. Good luck!
