    I am amazed that every video brings us new techniques and ways of doing things. I just cannot figure out where you find this wealth of knowledge, certainly not from Apple's paper instruction manuals. Most people would have their day filled in just producing the high quality videos leaving no time for extra research. I just wish I could remember half the things I learn from you 😄

    Very clear and concise, thank you. Unfortunately I was hoping to find some secret to getting "move with text" to actually work. With any document with more than a couple of images, inserting text above the image, even pages before, completely changes the image placement even when "move with text" is selected. In other words, "move with text" does not guarantee "move with text keeping the same formatting". I've added a single line and seen images jumping to the previous page or the subsequent page for no apparent reason.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right, it is moving with the text as the text reflows as you add things. Not sure what you mean that it is not keeping the same formatting though. What formatting is changing? Maybe explore using "Inline" instead?

    On Mac, Pages has some fatal bugs that were absurd. Put images in the document and press the space a few times from the top, then the images are combined. No matter how many times I ask the problem to Apple service center, they don't know how to fix it and they say it's like a bug.

    • @SteveJobs_
      @SteveJobs_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      wow. inline with text solved this problem like Word. but can't moving images accurately. this is a big dilemma.

  • @dianechayer6687

    Hi Gary, I followed your advice to wait until the text if finished before inserting the images. But as you well know, a text is never really finished and corrections are nearly endless. When I correct a text, adding a few lines or deleting a paragraph, it is always a mess with the images that go flying everywhere except those on a full page that I have locked. Now tell me, am I at fault or is it because the commands are not 100% trustworthy. Thank you.

    • @KiteFlyingRobot
      @KiteFlyingRobot ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes this happens to me also. When editing a document with images in it, I do exactly as you say in the video but some images still go flying around and it's very frustrating. @macmostvideo

    Thank you Gary, another excellent video. It took me years to work out what you covered in a few minutes. I still have one problem with images - how to produce a double page spread. I write in Pages, export to PDF, and publish books on Scottish history on Amazon Kindle. Sometimes it would be useful to have a double page spread photo of a castle, for example, to have a large landscape image in an otherwise portrait book. Is there any way this can be done, or do I need design software. Thanks again for you really informative videos.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sounds like you really need InDesign or the equivalent for your projects.

      Have you tried inserting the image on two consecutive pages? On the first page, display the left part of the image. On the second page, display the right side of the image? I'm imagining a coffee table book with a "centerfold", but it should work just as well in a portrait mode text-style format.

    hi Gary, you helped me so much once a while back with some issues I was having with pages, I have one more quick question, do you know how I can drag 50+ images from finder into pages and then stay in line with text in the order it was in finder? image 1 image 2 image 3 etc; every time I drag and drop it doesn't stay in order, it drops and kinda turns into to a mess, is there a solution? thanks Gary, love from Brazil!

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drag and drop them, and with them, then with them all still selected, change to Inline. But the order is the order. Rearrange as needed. Or, maybe add them one-by-one. 50 isn't that much. So it takes you 15 minutes. If that is what you need to do...

    • @macmost
      @macmost  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The apps do things differently, so you are always going to have issues with specific placement of items and such. If you really need layouts to look good in Word, then use Word. If you just need to distribute to people who don't have Pages, export as PDF instead.

  • @aftondill2837
    @aftondill2837 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    awesome, thanks! coming from Word and Google Docs, this really bothered me. it’s cool that there is a way to make Pages act like them, but is there a way to have “move with text” and “inline with text” on by default for all new documents, or at the very least for all images in one document?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. But you can always copy and paste and then swap the image. You could also just use a rectangle shape, set it like you want, and then copy and paste that. Then drag and drop the image inside the shape. Lots to experiment with to find your best workflow.

    Hi Gary,
    when I insert an image into a text, in 100 % of my cases I want to have it "inline with text" in its own paragraph. What I do: Place the cursor in the empty paragraph, insert the image, format it with "move with text" and "inline with text". Now the image is not in the paragraph where I have positioned the cursor so I have to cut it and then paste it into the empty paragraph where I want to place it. I see now easier way. Is there any?

If I put an anchor on the page I only see one anchor for all four pictures. I want them to move with the rest of my document text but they end up all over. Any fixes? Thanks

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you are trying to anchor more than one picture to the same spot? I can see how that would cause issues. Set them all to Stay With Page. Then arrange them relative to each other like you wish. Then select them all and use Arrange, Group to make them a single item. Now set that group to Move With Text. So now you just have one group anchored to the text and not four separate images.
