    Great show guys.👍🏼👌🏽. ❤
    little info about the Gretsch switches.
    1. Pickup Selector . Three pos.
    2. Master Tone Selector: Tone control switch , three settings. The first position emphasizes bass, the middle is neutral and third offers a slight high-frequency roll-off.

    In my opinion (won't add humble), the 2 must have guitars are an ES335 & a Telecaster. I'd always loved Teles, but my ex bassist took me to a local music store,1989.(he was going crazy on some of the basses), I was standing there eyeing a beautiful blue 335 (the $4000 price tag, hanging on it precluded my taking it off the hanger), a store employee, said "Let's plug it in." So I did. The tone of that guitar was indescribably beautiful. I was playing very lightly mind you. I realised why BB, Larry Carlton,Alvin Lee,& others had chosen that model. I kicked myself as I could've bought a hideous green one, while I was in HS for less than $500 [all monetary references are in USD]. I recently bought an import copy of the 335, did a little work, bought some very inexpensive pick ups & bridge [all told around $35], levelled frets, crowned them, touch up the depth of the nut slots, & it actually plays very well.(not 335 well, but it's close). Absolutely love those 2 guitar styles. My Telecaster is 1992 USA, it's a dream machine. (Recently, well 6 yrs ago, added the 5 Way Tele/Strat Super Switch. She's absolutely fabulous now.) Of course, my verbosity knows no limits, so I'll stop. PS I'm very jealous.

    The redish dots are coming from the filler, first guitar is opaque white lacquered, then fillered and afterwards comes the color. But filler is grey, with the aging of the top coat it can went into a red grey colour!

    Sorry to be a pedantic geek about Les Paul Specials - there are FOUR versions of the DC.
    V1: 1958. Switch above the controls, hard edge body, neck joins the body at the end of the fretboard
    V2: 1959. Switch moves, body more rounded, neck joins the body at the end of the fretboard
    V3. 1959. Same as above BUT the neck joins the body at the 22nd fret and the pickup is very slightly further back. Seems to be around the 93xxxx serial number range. Some have the plastic spacer, some don't.
    V4: 1960. Neck still joins the body at the 22nd fret, pickup moved even further back, new pickguard shape introduced.
    What's the serial of the Special you're playing Bob? It must be very late '59 to have those specs. Or it sat around and was finished later? The only thing consistent with Gibson is their inconsistency!
    Keep up the good work guys, these shows are GREAT!

      Thanks Rob, v interesting and you’re right I’d omitted to mention the sharper edges of the earlier ones. Both my TV’S have 60 serial numbers. The TV in this video IS 59, the Special 60

    I love my Gibson electrics. Set neck, Humbuckers or p90’s. A Gibson is made whereas a Fender is assembled. Now we move into acoustics, a Gibson is still made but a Martin is born. Next level. Those old Martins and even now the higher end Martins are Swiss watches. That old D28 digs into my chest, it’s awkward, the neck is not only big but the shape feels like it’s from a different place and time, then you strum a 6 string chord and sit there like a little kid saying duuuude. That’s what sound should sound like. I think Martin looks at Gibson like Gibson looks at Fender. Young upstarts lol. Hey at least they look at Gibson because the look so far down their noses at Taylor’s you’d get your ass kicked trying to walk in with one at a bluegrass festival. Not my genre persay but I do go to the festivals from time to time. You’ll hear “I wouldn’t play no damn Taylor boy, bolt on neck piece of crap from California”. That’s real. Then ironic enough when the lights go down they break out their Telecasters (yeah, bolt on neck from California)🤔🤔🤔

      I agree the old D18s, and D28s are my favourites

      The single pup ES guitars sound phenomenal, but the pup is in a different position to the TD so no idea if it’s just from the lack of a neck pup magnet pulling on the strings or just the diff position

    • @Rockbeareguitars
      @Rockbeareguitars 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my experience, Juniors usually sound hotter than specials and Esquires sound (even) sharper than Teles, so there is definitely something going on. Whether it’s neck pickup magnet pull or phantom loading I don’t know, but the market seems to agree, favouring Juniors, but perversely, Tele’s!
