I just bought this exact car. same color, and same year except it's the Nismo Tech. I absolutely love it. It has its flaws but I accept them. Power and adjustable seat settings would have been awesome and two cup holders would have been great. It get the stares from the younger people and the car still has a relevant body style that will never get old. I was fortunate to find this car with only 18,000 miles and only paid $37,000 for it. The previous owner had the car ceramic coated and it still looked and smelled new. The Z had always been my dream car and at 55 yrs old it's about damn time I bought one!
I have loved the Z every since I was a child. I was able to buy a 1990 300zx when I first got married but had to sell it to buy another car for my wife. This birthday (my 40th) I hope to get myself a 370z. I’m excited.

Common issues with this car for anyone wondering, I own a 2016 Sport btw. -Window and lock issues. These are always minor and they are very common nissan issues. -It also has seatbelt issues with it twisting and not wanting to retract sometimes, another common Nissan issue, this is under warranty for up to 84,000 miles or 7 years though so I would always recommend getting it fixed for free and getting a fresh seatbelt assembly. -Supposed oil consumption which I haven't noticed, could be due to the engines running hot sometimes and burning off oil? -Oil heat, minor annoyance but the oil cooler does a solid job. I don't track my car but when I do a few pulls and races it won't really ever go over 220 -The door handles on the exterior feel suspect so I assume those could have issues eventually I don't know many other issues but it is a really fun and good car. I can't think of many other sports car that are as reliable and cheap. The interior isn't that nice but in my opinion the Bose has a very nice sound system and you shouldn't care a shit ton about the interior. You can always fix it up to your liking, but it is expensive. This car is meant for looking good, sounding good and being fun.

For the window issue usually if you take off the door panel there's a button on the motor to reset it. Also if you haven't lubricated your window in a while that will help
I have a 2018 370Z 6 sp stick Heritage that was a Nissan fleet car before I purchased it in 2019. It had 4000 miles on it and as a Nissan certified car I got a extended warranty included at no extra cost. My car is stock with no mods at all. In the year I have owned it the mileage is now up to just under 10K. Other than a air bag light that I haven't brought it in for yet no issues. It's my spring, summer and fall driver and gets parked in the Mn winter. A 2020 base 370Z starts at $32,000 new, this is the last year. I enjoy my car a lot.
Honestly the Nissan 370z is fast enough for the street and autocross. Plus it has nice low end and linear power, which is great for the street and autocross. I test drove V8 muscle cars, and they would just spin tires if I gave it too much gas. No need for that much power. The feel and engagement of driving is more important to me. I had an S2000 as well, and the 370z is engaging like that car. Unfortunately they don't really make cars like this any more.
Which is why I'm keepin mine! I am excited to see what the next Z is like because I do miss the bottom end tq of a turbo setup, but it better have the same driving/handling feel!
The shifter is mounted directly to the transmission with a thick aluminum bracket...it's much better that way but it does account for some extra drivetrain vibration in the shifter. A lot of cars have the shifter mounted to the car, and therefore have a more flimsy shifter linkage to account for the movement between the chassis and the drivetrain.
Did you try the window motor reset? It worked for my window issues. Put it up, hold the button for 15 sec. Then down doing the same 15 seconds. It fixed my window not going back up on one side and not going down on the other lol.
Nice job on the review. I have the 17 Nismo Tech. Had my dealer install and warranty Stillen supercharger, oil cooler, and exhaust. 30k now no issues. Good luck. She is a great track car and I daily her..
This is an excellent review. I drive a 2013 WRX and am looking for a completely different driving experience (for the summer) like you were at the time. I want something in rear wheel drive, with power, that is naturally aspirated, without having to mod/tune. This review covered everything I wanted to look into, and heard about from other 370Z drivers.
Having owned a money pit wrx, I still love my 2014z 7 years later. When you hit the right set of corners, you're reminded of what a great car it is. TONS of looks too!!! WAY WAY more reliable than my wrx, which needed a tune if you just LOOKED at it!
Great review. Kudos! Bought the "Base" 6 speed manual brand new 5 years ago here on the east coast of Canada. Still love it in every way possible. Rock solid reliability. Super fun to drive. Definitely a keeper.
I own a 2017 370 touring. Purchased new from the dealer. I have the same issue with the driver window. Started about 2yr after I bought. It’s on an off.... doesn’t always happens. I took it to the dealer, but they couldn’t figure it out. Like your content... thanks Javier
I had a 2015 base for 2 years... No issues. It was tuned with intakes, catback and test pipes. Loved it very much and abused it daily. I'm currently riding a bimmer and have already have issues with it in 6 months with no abuse. I'm going back to a Z... 2017 370z Nismo. I said if I go back it has to be Nismo.
For anyone with a Nissan 350z / 370z who suffers the window glitch that his did where it goes up / down of its own accord with the door open, simply replace the door switches in each jam. My Nismo did this, replaced with a new switch which literally took 30 seconds and been good as gold ever since
There's a weight bolted inside the rear of the trunk lid. If you take off the rear cover it's held on with 2 bolts. Once that's been removed it's much keener to pop open and goes up faster. It still shuts just fine and the car is then lighter as a another bonus.
The shifter vibrates because it's directly attached to the transmission; it's totally normal. Your subaru uses shifter linkages, which explains why you dont feel anything.
Do the window reset, it'll work fine. Just roll the window up, then press and hold until fully down and keep holding for few seconds. This solves the problem. 370z GT Edition, Oxford
Z's shifter goes right onto the transmission, where the subaru has got rods running to the trans, could be your difference. You will get more feel off the Z style of shifter.
First, get rid of that factory clutch pedal. That thing is terrible. Buy an RJM adjustable clutch pedal. 1hr to install, and it’ll transform your drive I promise. The fix for the trunk is to remove the bump stops on the trunk lid, and insert some pennies. You think I’m kidding.... TH-cam it brotha. Did it on my ‘16 NISMO 370Z works like a champ. Also, delete the P0240 or whatever code you have. On your cats, get some o2 bung extenders. That should clear your problem.
Thank you, Thank you! I've traded my 2016 base model in for a 2020 NISMO through VROOM and the will deliver it the 17th. OMG, I am chomping at the bit right now.. LOL 👍🏻😎
My only issue with the 370 interior is the pods. The 350z has a digital gauge on the left side that can be set to a speedo , it’s literally my favorite part of the 350 interior. I’m 6”5’ and the steering wheel cuts off my view of the regular speedo so I’ve exclusively looked at the pod for 3 years and its very disappointing to see they did away with it on the 370z now that I’m looking into getting one.
I recommend doing a mishimoto racing thermostat. Itll open up sooner and keep the temp down. Ive got the 350 and the 370. And both have had cooling issues. Now i did a after.market radiator and a vented hood along with it. But the just having one of those things will help tremendously
Your oil temp point is normal. Not sure about 2012 them adding coolers, my 2014 Mk1 didn't have a cooler. You need to get an aftermarket one. A 19 row one will do the job but if you can afford more rows then do. Maybe they added them in the US... I am in the UK and temps won't be as high so maybe they thought we didn't need them.
Here is how I fixed my hatch from not opened when pushed the button. There is a weight in the hatch under the plastic. Just take the plastic off and remove the weight in there.
I own a 2013 nismo 370Z and I have the same trunk issue, I often to always have to double click the button, so I’m guessing this is something to do with Nissan.
Reset the windows at problem temperature. Its would be weird if that fixed the weird problem. Actually a leaner or dressing used on the rubber seal may gum at that temperature. The brake cover strut tower flex, I do see the brace, or air coming around the air filter case hell could be heat shield issue from aftermarket exhaust diverting air from under the car into engine compartment.
The that exhaust having no cats you have to go get an UPrev tune put on the car. I had to do same thing. Your car is probably burning lien because of it
There is a weight in the hatch that can be removed. There are videos on you tube that show it. I removed mine in about 10 minutes. No need to stack pennies. I also recommend the Torque Solution short throw shifter, makes a huge difference !! As far as the window issue you can always roll them down with the key fob before you open the door until you get it figured out.
Thanks for the heads up. Ironically I already roll them down with the fob before getting in to get around the window issue. Only problem that remains is when exiting the car and closing the door the window needs to be rolled up before closing and locking.
I have a 2010 nismo and the window goes down when opening the door just a little. I believe i read somewhere it was by design so when you close the door it wont allow the top part of the glass to hit top of the frame. I think there is a reset to hold the botton down for so many seconds but i actually like it to drop a little to prevent it to hit the frame.
Mine has had issues from day one when I bought it new. It's fine about 24 out of 25 door open/closes.... The pin switch in the door area likely changes shape slightly due to weather/humidity changes.
Like i mentioned earlier....i believe the small amount of drop on the window when opened is by design. Its to not hit the top frame of the car when door is slammed shut. I thought first it was loose but no...its designed. I have a 2010 nismo and bought it used and the window always functioned that way. Great cars....fun to drive and great price compared to other comparable vehicles.
Only issue I have with mines, is the famous gas range not reading once you get half a tank. I know i can fix it with just switching the tophat or maybe getting new floaters but just don’t feel like spending that money right now lol. Also with the no cat code, once you get tuned you can have tuner delete that code for good. I had my tuner do that for me this week.
Hmm. I got mine from Minnesota with 18K miles. Already changed the steering wheel pump, fly wheel, clutch, slave cylinder and now need to change transmission bearings.. Not a “Ready to Track” car in my opinion.
Yup agreed replace those with urethane and solid bushings and the the rear wheel hop on hard launches goes away plus greatly enhances the feel of the car
Hey how do you like the PS4s? I still got the OE tires with 240 treadwear. On the road they do not get hot enough so if I take a hard corner or drive aggressively the OE tires do not squeal to let the driver know what is happening. Since the PS4s are 300 treadwear do they communicate better to the driver? Thanks for your input. I only have 14K kms so I still have some tread left but looking to the future as to what tires to get - don’t drive it in the winter at all.
Or the issue could be the gas struts on the trunk. Mine does not do this at all. colder temps will affect those struts, I used to live in north east Ohio. I have no issues with my windows either.
The mods done by the previous owner are the reason for the CEL. There are sensors that are supposed to be installed on the cats. Since you don’t have any, go figure. They’re probably tucked and secured somewhere underneath the car. Or maybe removed all together.
It’s crazy I have the same year and color with nav. I wish I didn’t have nav cause I want double din 😭😭 I have most of the same issues you’re having like hatch not opening due to heavy duckbill, window doesn’t go down when it’s cold outside, seatbelt, etc.
What do you do for a living or are you just a TH-camr and im in east tn i own a 350z is it worth a car payment? The person i got my z as a virgin. Doesnt burn oil. Should i trade it in on a 2015 for 15000 theyre giving me 7000 grand trade . Just your thoughts.
Great video, however, I'm still contemplating on the Nismo with the Audi A5 Coupe. Love the looks of the Audi!!! Just sold my 2001 Qvale Mangusta and shopping around. Also drove the new Veloster N and a 2020 Supra yesterday!!!!!! Supra was Ok, however, if I'm spending that kind of money the Alfa Romeo 4C is the winner without question. What're your thoughts (Nismo or Audi A5 Coupe???)
I've only seen a handful of your videos but they're all done super well; you seem very genuine which I think contributes to the quality. Have you said what you do to be able to have these cars in other videos?
Hey thanks man, means alot. I work in Finance and my wife works in marketing. We both work for great companies and we also have no kids. All combined it makes for me throwing money at this car disease haha.
I ended up buying a new 2020 BRZ and shortly after I bought it I was disappointed because like you said there isn't much power and I also own a 2015 WRX so now I'm considering getting a Nissan I just haven't decided which model because it'd just be another vehicle to add to the collection.
Excellent review thank you for making this video! As an enthusiast looking for a fun rear wheel drive daily that's 2015 and up. The local car market in AZ has priced clean examples of 370z nismos in the ballpark of $40k. Not worth it at that price. Shopping out of state is more reasonable with clean examples at $36k. It's hard to justify when clean examples of Camaro 2SS 1LE's go for $40-43k. Which is a much more competent car. If someone can attain a clean example of a 370z nismo for around $30k I'd say thats worth it.
Great review. I was thinking of getting an automatic. I do like manual but I'm getting older and I thought with the power the auto would be fine....any thoughts?
You can add or replace the side of the mirrors with a convex mirror I think. I've driven them and didn't find it to be that bad. I guess it all depends how you sit in the car

Double press for hatch unlock is on every Z since the Z33.
My complaints are the clutch hydraulic cylinder, rear differential bushings and the sub frame bushings.
Yup agreed replace those with urethane and solid bushings and the the rear wheel hop on hard launches goes away plus greatly enhances the feel of the car
Take a shot every time he says auto cross
I bet he’s done it once.
LOL!!
What's your autocross alignment ?? Can u adjust camber ??
That trunk problem not opening has been a problem since 2002 in the 350Z
Put the pennies in the trunk springs to fix the rear hatch. Z1 has stronger pneumatic pistols for the rear hatch.
06:15 the window not doing whats its supposed to do? I would remove the tint and try it. If the tint is not "Nano" it causes window issues
You can reset the windows . It should fix the issue your having with the windows not going down when opening the door
My 350z both sides of the window problem you have hasn't messed up
Thank you. Have a 04 Roadster 350Z but always was intrigued by the Nismo. Also, you can do a drinking game with "phenomenal". lol
I only have 14K kms so I still have some tread left but looking to the future as to what tires to get - don’t drive it in the winter at all.
my window also does the same exact thing. It doesn't drop down when below ~30 degrees ;(
Or the issue could be the gas struts on the trunk. Mine does not do this at all. colder temps will affect those struts, I used to live in north east Ohio. I have no issues with my windows either.
My 350z knock sensor i replaced the sencor not the harness. My car is paid off is it worth 30 hp for 15000
Hitting the trunk latch twice is standard. My 2006 350z has the same thing.
Trunks a design flaw. Gotta push up on the trunk and press the button on the rear bumper. Works every time.
Penny Trick! Works fine, literally takes 180 seconds... check the Z forums.
The mods done by the previous owner are the reason for the CEL. There are sensors that are supposed to be installed on the cats. Since you don’t have any, go figure. They’re probably tucked and secured somewhere underneath the car. Or maybe removed all together.
I commented before the end of the vid. Glad to know that you know the source of your CEL.
It’s crazy I have the same year and color with nav. I wish I didn’t have nav cause I want double din 😭😭 I have most of the same issues you’re having like hatch not opening due to heavy duckbill, window doesn’t go down when it’s cold outside, seatbelt, etc.
I have a 2011 touring model with no wing, I can confirm my trunk does the same thing getting stuck where I have to click it twice.
Ha, that was probably my brother's fleet vehicle. 😁
What're your thoughts (Nismo or Audi A5 Coupe???)
the trunk thing is part of the design you have to click it twice
Square setup and put a front swaybar on it and its a bingo for autox.
The 350 z even without a rear spoiler has the same boot lid issues.
Love my roadster
BRZ owner here, do you think this Z handles better than your BRZ?
Nice work ! Very thorough review 👍 definitely looking to get one of these
You need to reprogram your driver side window, read your manual to see how its done...
All combined it makes for me throwing money at this car disease haha.
i have a 350 HR.. i notice they still havent fixed the boot/trunk opening problem... hows that even possible lol
Hum that fact that it seems every z has been tracked.is making me think twice about buying one now
I ended up buying a new 2020 BRZ and shortly after I bought it I was disappointed because like you said there isn't much power and I also own a 2015 WRX so now I'm considering getting a Nissan I just haven't decided which model because it'd just be another vehicle to add to the collection.
Why do car snobs like you like to complain about everything. The 370z is an amazing car. Bought mine new and love it. Just shut up and enjoy it. 😜
30k for a nismo? How many miles would u recommend in that range? 50k?
@@mosswine5417 I just found a nismo with 50k miles for 23k at a dealer clean title. these comments have convinced me that's a good price lol
Good review. Thanks
Great review. I was thinking of getting an automatic. I do like manual but I'm getting older and I thought with the power the auto would be fine....any thoughts?
@1MJ981 Thank you for considering me, but if I could ever afford one, it would be a 2020.
Have a 2020 Sport Touring love my car any way around the blind spot???
You can add or replace the side of the mirrors with a convex mirror I think. I've driven them and didn't find it to be that bad. I guess it all depends how you sit in the car
always wanted one of these
Great vid covered everything nicely 👌
5:15 my 2011 Non-nismo does the same boot lift issue.
Good review
Keep up the good work buddy!!
