    I bought 2 yesterday. They were $32.00 marked down to $5.98. Very big leaves and big blooms. Wasn't afraid to buy them because thanks to you I can actually take care of them.

    Howdy Alex, there are as many folks with advice on the care of orchids as there are orchid varieties. I now have one and decided to keep the plant (I thought until investigating it, I think it's a Phal, that once it bloomed that's it it's dead). I love that you have so many and for years too, and that they are in bark. I removed enough moss to plant 50 small house plants. whoa ... How it all fit in the small pot is a wonder. But, I'm not totally comfortable in leaving the roots totally bare as one other suggested. After two weeks I noticed the 'moss' was still very wet. When I removed it all the roots were a mix of rotted ones, dark green and light grey. I snipped of the dead and removed all of the moss. I think I like your bark method (have to get some). For now I'm keeping my eye on the root system. So far so good. I'm a bit worried about the temp as I like it more on the cool side 70 Fahrenheit. sigh I do want it to survive and bloom again. I think I'll unsubscribe on all the others and stick with you. 🙂

    just discovered you in the last few days. i have been watching another youtube channel about orchids for a few months, and have been trying to see if i can pick up more info/dif info, and i am both impressed and confused by your techniques. i feel like your orchids are x nice, and the fact that you are growing in glass containers that have no holes, just is the opposite of what i have been learning everywhere else. i just can't believe it. perhaps it is bc they are just catering to the beginner, and the slits and holes are best for people that are new, bc they tend to kill with kindness(overwatering). i just want as much info as possible about the glass, holeless containers. they are so pretty. i love the way that the medium is seen through the glass, it is like art.

    One of my children gave me my first orchid during spring of last year. I decided that if the orchid lived and flowered again that I would get another. I was afraid that I would not be able to keep it alive. As it turns out this orchid wanted to live despite my ignorance about orchids. I knew NOTHING but I did read up on them. I got confused listening to various growers that all had different ideas about how to grow them. It did live and it has flowered twice for me and has grown a few leaves. I had to wait for orchids to show up in stores locally. I’m not quite brave enough to order any online yet.
    How long do you recommend waiting before repotting a new orchid? These mini orchids are in the tiniest pots that I have ever seen! They look healthy though. The large size Phalaenopsis looks alright but it is in moss and I am a little concerned about that. How long do you wait before repotting an orchid that is not struggling when you first buy it? I would love to see you do a repotting video. You orchids are so beautiful!
    I also have to use artificial light. Our windows are just not positioned properly for good flowering. Will be watching for your future videos.

I also lucked out and got a paloric orchid (no name hybrid) Growing here in BC Interior, I have been growing in bark a lot of years and different variety of pots. Been trying glass and bark and they seem to love it. Our very dry climater is liking the pot to stay a little more humid. .. It is peat moss.. Most plants are started from seadlings in peat moss..
    .. Peat moss is excavated from bogs, which is more and more replaced with more natural coconut chips and coco fiber instead..
    .. Orchid bark or orchid chips, is in fact pine bark chopped in big or smaller pieces, to use in soil mix, as toppings or as growing medium to different types of plants.. Reason is that it gives the plant air flow around the root system..
    .. Coco chips are coco shells washed and chopped in pieces, they are perfect for both moisture and air flow.. Coco coir are coco shells washed and trimmed to fibers used as soil to plants, which is a lot better than old fashioned potting soil..

      Good day! Thank you for the question. I didn’t know they are called spiders in English 🙂 i got it 3 years ago as a small finger sized plant and repotted it about 3 or 4 times. Each time i have used the cheapest media for all kind of house plants i found in garden store. Last time i added a bit of bark from orchids and some moss. So i think it doesnt really matter (just dont use very “hard” media that holds too much water). And it likes fertilizer. Hope that helps

    Can you do a repot Phalaenopsis video? Why do you use large bark? I notice that you don't use many ventilation holes...Why?

    • @OrchidsByAlexander
      @OrchidsByAlexander  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will be doing a repotting video soon. They can easily grow without any holes and its just easier for us to water them like that.
      Large pieces of bark because they create spaces where roots can grow and you wont overwater as larger pieces of bark have better ventilation

    Do you clip the spike as it gets longer? I did it once and felt that the orchid didn't produce many flowers. Almost like if gravity helped it to bloom. Since then, I just let my flowers drop down.

    Thank you Alex. Do you cut off leaves that are turning yellow?

    • @OrchidsByAlexander
      @OrchidsByAlexander  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the question. Sometimes i leave leaves that starting to get yellow for orchid to drain all energy from leaves and take them off when they are yellow. But it depends… was it weak or healthy orchid, which leaf: lowest (which is normal) or in the middle (which can be a sign of problem). Is it getting yellow from the tip (which is natural) or from the stem (which can be a sign of problem). Anyway - after removing the leaf dont forget to take off the part that is attached to the stem. It is better to do it. When the leaf falls - the part of the leaf that is attached to stem remains there and it is recommended to take it off. You can do that with fingers but tweezers can be very handy

      @@OrchidsByAlexander Thank you for the great reply. This orchid had been in someone's office and was not in great shape. It was the bottom 2 leaves so i did cut them off as well as repot and cut off many dead roots. It is in a bigger container now and hopefully will be happy.

      I just measured. And from the center of orchid leaves (the spot where new ones grow) it is 35-40cm till lamp depending on plant size. I have pedestals for smaller orchids so that they will be closer to lamp. I think this distance is good. My lamps are just regular LED lamps both cold (6500k) and neutral (4000k) light. About 15 hours a day.
