NEW ORCHID! First look. Getting rid of the coco peat “sponge” that can cause rot!
มุมมอง 8Kปีที่แล้ว
I got a new orchid. Yes, i still sometimes buy new ones :) how can we help our newly purchased orchids? Here is what i do
I FORGOT about these ORCHIDS on window but they KEEP BLOOMING and getting new spikes? Magic?! Nope😅
มุมมอง 8Kปีที่แล้ว
Sometimes the less we care for them the better they grow. What caused my orchids on north window to bloom almost non-stop even without any specific care? Of course i grow them for many years and not always with good results, but let me review my orchids on north windowsill and show you what im going to do with them.
My big CYMBIDIUM ORCHID. Just ONE flower? 🤔 Pot without holes and roots are doing great.
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
Just want to show you my cymbidium orchid i got one year ago and repotted it 6 months ago in a glass pot with no holes and it liked it. It likes hot temperatures for growing leaves and bulbs, but requires cool temperature for blooming.
WATERING PHALAENOPSIS! It’s easy! Orchids in glass and regular pots.
มุมมอง 68Kปีที่แล้ว
Hello everybody. Just got in the mood to show some of watering process and picked a few orchids during watering as an example.
Bought 2 slightly frozen ORCHIDS and surprise.. they started growing in 2 weeks. And new spikes
มุมมอง 8Kปีที่แล้ว
Note: i dont know at what temperature they were kept and for how long. But probably under 10C for a few hours or more. Dont keep your phalaenopsis under 15C. Yes, the stress could have caused new spikes to grow (especially that i cut the old ones that still had fresh flowers) but who knows… maybe its just my care? 😉
The BIGGEST ORCHID on YouTube?! Let me SHOW you my BLOOMING PHALAENOPSIS ORCHIDS!
มุมมอง 109Kปีที่แล้ว
Hello everybody. This is going to be my first video. Just a quick introduction of some of my phalaenopsis orchids. Orchid propagation. I like to pot them in pots with no draining holes at all (mostly)

I was given an orchid in a glass jar, I can’t see the roots so I can’t tell if they are green or not. There is a lot of bark in the bottom. I basically water it when the bark looks dry which is probably maybe less than once a week. I have kept it alive 8 weeks now but I’m not sure what I’m doing really! I would hate it to die as it’s so pretty but I’m scared as I have no idea if I’m not watering enough or too much

Alex, I have never tried the closed system in glass vase. I so wish to experiment on that. My tiny conservatory is cold in winter, will planting in a closed glass system killed them?. You have a wonderful orchid touch with your orchids, almost genius like.Thank you again.

I now know the orchid i bought in a glass vase is going to die. It is only partly filled with bark and the entire mini orchid is within the vase. If i soak and pour, the whole contents will tip out. If i water slightly the water pools on the bottom and hasn't dried up but the roots don't go all the way to the bottom so the plant dries out.

Really beautiful! Im currently trying different methods with my phals. Trying to find a balance with what works for my warering style. I don't know how I can achieve a lower temperature though as my flat is always warm. Possibly putting them near the balcony door as it gets a cold breeze at night!

How come every orchid grower on TH-cam says they need air circulation around the roots? These are completely encased in glass and look fantastic I'm so confused 😭

    • @OrchidsByAlexander
      @OrchidsByAlexander 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hehe. Well , they do get air there… not as much, but quite enough. I have a few orchids without soil and its very complicated to water them. But yeah, i was scared to try but it exceeded all my expectations. Thank you.

Have you tried a filtered solution & dilution of 24 hour soaked garlic and chilli seeds to deter pests. (It works on vegetables)

It's because of lack of direct sunlight, the evidence is the color of the leaves, too dark.

Do you have a warm environment and growing lights? Where do you live? I'm in upstate NY and the roots take forever to dry in the winter and are suseptible to mold. We keep out heat at 70 F in the winter and i have to take them out of the window because of how cold it gets.

Hi Alex. Your orchids are so beautiful! I am working on learning how to grow orchids and it’s not going great. Anyway wanted to tell you how I transplant a plants when it is tight in the pot. I take a large plastic bag and put it down on table, then I slowly gently pull it out with container on its side. It helps to have someone hold container and tilt it. I would try that before breaking the glass. Thanks for your helpful tips. Had no idea you could grow them in a glass container. Good luck!

.. It is peat moss.. Most plants are started from seadlings in peat moss.. .. Peat moss is excavated from bogs, which is more and more replaced with more natural coconut chips and coco fiber instead.. .. Orchid bark or orchid chips, is in fact pine bark chopped in big or smaller pieces, to use in soil mix, as toppings or as growing medium to different types of plants.. Reason is that it gives the plant air flow around the root system.. .. Coco chips are coco shells washed and chopped in pieces, they are perfect for both moisture and air flow.. Coco coir are coco shells washed and trimmed to fibers used as soil to plants, which is a lot better than old fashioned potting soil..
