The Pinnacle of this truck is a second gen double cab long bed SR5 4x4. And that's coming from a double cab short bed TRD off-road 3rd gen guy . Regardless of generation. Nobody ever said the long bed was to long. And I'd advise buying a base model. Could install a locker and get better shocks and still be cheaper than trd off road.
Good job going over the 2-4th Gens. One thing worth noting is from the 3rd gen+ Tacomas are being built in Mexico, will be interesting to see how the new 4runners(made in Japan) vs Tacomas hold up against each other. I have a 2010 Prerunner with the 4.0, currery at 109k miles with zero issues averaging 20.5 MPG. The 4runner had been using the 4.0 from 2003-2024, goes to show how great that engine is.
My so basic 2024 Tacoma SR is the absolutely amazing vehicle I have ever owned. I just love it. I still like my 2012 Tundra and think it is awesome still for my Crewmax needs. My next truck in 5 years will probably be a Tacoma.
@@mussersbowsboatsandscience6610 I feel like the new SR is just a solid little truck with everything you need and nothing you don’t. You don’t NEED rear coils, leafs work fine, you don’t NEED anything fancy, it’s a basic truck. What color did you get?

You can also get 3rd gen’s with the “premium package” which gives you a sun roof, heated leather seats, and a JBL sound system. I got an OR with the package and saved about 10k compared to buying a TRD pro and am really only misssing the factory lift and different fog lights.
My Sport cost from Toyota’s website is $55,208. I added a few items on that I wanted, a step so my wife and kids can get in, a hard tannoe cover, bed liner, and traffic camera. I wish I could change to an off road so I can get the six foot bed.
The blue with a manual transmission. My wife can’t drive manual transmission either but I will have to actually show her this time. I enjoy driving manual and really miss it when I get the automatic.
I have been playing on Toyota’s website trying to get a manual and a six foot bed. Do you know of a way? Why would Toyota not offer a manual with a six foot bed? I have put the order in to the dealership, but it has not been allocated. This means I can change the order, if it is even possible, to get a manual and a six foot bed.
I got one out of three. Not going to lie, I wanted a 6 cylinder engine, manual transmission, and a six foot bed. On my test drive, the truck was very peppy (not able to test drive the manual but the automatic). I guess I am sacrificing the six foot bed for the manual.
I just saw a Trailhunter long bed for the first time the other day here in Arizona. Thing looks massive but all I could think was “that guy definitely got REAMED!”
Great video! I’m an out to make the plunge with my first Tacoma and first truck; I’ve been really considering going with the 2025 off-road and still open to considering previous years and generations. I’ve got a little (but big enough they don’t need a booster), and rear passenger (at least basic) comfort and safety. I’d be curious what the differences in rear passenger safety is like between generations/years, if you end up making a part 2 :)
17:07 i can personally attest to this ! my 2018 at 96k miles started leaking from the timing chain cover according to the Toyota tech and the quote was right around 6k about 4 days to complete (31+ hours of labor) To add insult to injury the parts are a rubber gasket and tube of the sealant they reapply only cost around $100.
@It definitely was a PITA. Unfortunately the time on the warranty had expired 9 months before. That was the cherry on top tbh. I hadn’t mentioned initially that they also quoted me for an alternator belt replacement, a rack a pinion replacement for $411 and $2,229. In total without “discounts” 🤨 the quote for all of these repairs was $10,071 (6,500 with discounts) I ended up selling it and got a white 25 offroad 4x4.
@@teamoildropExactly my thought, in the end I am content with my new truck. I have been blessed enough to have owned 3 double cab tacoma’s a 2008,2018 and now a 2025.
