Thanks for the video. I can now say the same wire is in the 01 4Runners and this worked great. Hardest part was finding a good spot for the switch and fabbing up a mount.
If anyone decides to do this, before you begin work on electrical components, you should disconnect the cars battery and wait a few minutes for all capacitors to deplete, otherwise you run the risk of blowing fuses or destroying electrical components when you make mistakes. I blew an ECU fuse trying to turn off my TMPS light and my car wouldn't leave park. I am lucky a fuse blew and nothing worse.
Thanks for the video! I’m looking at moving into a older, rougher neighborhood so a kill switch will be one of my next upgrades. Will pm for the hiding spot!
Thanks for the very useful vid! I just had mine done by a pro car electric and he said there’s too much current in that cable for the 12v switch and there’s risk to blow it, he instead wired it directly to the relay.
No problem 👍. Mines still strong for a few years now. The switch can do 10amps or so I can’t remember. The little wire likely isn’t going to draw more than that.
@@PhoRunner so the control circuit (12v) runs trough the switch activating the fuel pump and at the same time illuminating the switch? Thanks for the reply I appreciate it so much! Hope you have a good holidays!
The ignition circuit supplies 12v when key is in on position so yes. The control panel just needs very low amps to tell the system to turn on so we’re borrowing from ignition circuit with the add a fuse
Awesome video. I have a 96 myself and i'm thinking of doing this to my vehicle. I don't know exactly how you wired it to the button. So you cut the wire, and connect a longer wire on each end of that (cut) wire, then connect those two (extended) wires to the button to hide it? I wish i could post a picture here :(
i just picked up a 3rd gen 4runner, it currently has a viper 550 alarm installed by the original owner, im not sure if i did anything to trigger anything (at this point) but now my car won't start, dash lights go on, radio can be used, doors lock/unlock, so i don't think its the battery, i don't think its the starter as well cause i drove it the night before.
So you cut the wire and then extended each side of it and ran them both however far to the kill switch? Just trying to make sure I'm not missing anything. Doing it soon
Will the fuel pump Killswitch still allow the vehicle to start and drive off for a small distance? My only fear is that if a thief takes off with my vehicle and the fuel cuts out while he's while it's in motion he can crash into people or cars causing serious injury.
5th Gen... Is this the same wiring config? Seattle Wa SUPER HIGH theft area and "female" ( jus sayin 😉😉). I'm trying to figure this out and I'm no electrician but slightly mechanically inclined... Massively nervous bc I still owe a shyte ton on my notel. Don't wanna ef this up.
@@PhoRunner Yesss it is. When I was younger I used to tear into cars, did my own maintenance, replaced dead parts and even some body repair the left quarter panel of my 69 Charger ( I MISS that car). So much easier back then. (learned a few lessons but now with the extra electronics and gadgets I'm always concerned I won't b able to fix it IF I did anything wrong, lol.. Thanks again for your vids. Very helpful.
Pho , I don't have Facebook, so I wouldn't be able to ask you where you installed your kill switch. I live in San antonio tx ,and I have a Toyota Tundra. Is there any way you can tell me through here?
Great video. I was not able to find you at 3rd Gen 4runner Mafia, just joined the group, my name is Javier Martinez Hernandez, I would like to know where did you hide your kill switch, I am about to instal one in my 2000 limited 4runner, thanks!
Whats your name in the Facebook group? Been looking to pm you and can't find you in there, I am a member. Currently trying to install a killswitch on my 3rd gen as well
In my pee brain the circle on the switch makes more sense on it's running. A circle shows a continuous cycle in my pee brain. The strain line represents in my pee brain an intermetten situation. I've always been confused about this. Lol
Why would you share the location? The bad guys are not on the internet? Also, chances are, the bad guys that are eyeing the 4r are ones interested in the 4r, so there is high likelihood they will come across online community for 4r... Unless, pho, you have other multiple kill switches... You can also add starter cutoff switch just as easily.
I just offered suggestions for known places already available all over the internet. This is not where I have mine. I also have an alarm that kills the ignition system as well

Excellent!! Mines been super solid too!!!

Thank you for this its been hard to find what wire to cut into
Np!!!!
Can confirm the wire is the correct wire for a 1997 4runner
Should be same. Only one way to find out hehe. Cut it and see if car starts!

Lol I’ll be happy with 10k!!
I’d like to do this on my 4Runner. I’ll check if my wires look the same..
Does the light turn on the switch. when it’s on the on position? Thanks for the helpful video
The ignition turns on the light and control unit. Once you press a button, it illuminates to indicate circuit is on

Could you please tell me what car alarm should I use for my 2001 regular 4runner?
you can use any DEI alarm or compustar even. Many alarms are compatible with these 4runners.

Yup
Find me on instagram
Good looking rig. Im gonna try this on my '97 t100. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks!
I have Immobilizer keys. Wouldn't that already solve the problem? Maybe the that's already jail broken. Idk
yeah, that helps but those can be hacked by mechanics and locksmiths.
@@PhoRunner Yeah I agree. At least we know who the thieves are lol
would this work on a 2010 corolla? ik it’s a pretty big difference but i’d like to know
Likely but you’d have to find the wire

It might be armed still. See if there’s a button to disable the alarm. There’s a specific way to disable it when you have the key in
Mannnn you are the best. This video is great
NP!
Is this the power wire of the fuel pump? Is it safety to put the switch on the ground side of the fuel pump?
I’m not sure but probably is given the location
@@PhoRunner is there a way I could message you for location?
Yeah find me on fb Minh Bui in 3rd gen 4runner mafia

Definitely. Lol

Yeah
What color wire is for 06 4runner??
I’m not positive! It might be the same color but I’m not 100%
Do you need to add a fuse?
Just in case there is a short?
Máhalo!
😎🤙🏽
The fuel pump is already fused so nope
Nice video! I notice that your 4-Runner starts without pressing the brake!
Alarm remote starter lol
My 97 4runner doesn't need the brake to start
Excellent kill switch installation bro
Thanks!

Nope. With no pump it runs for a second
@@PhoRunner thanks for clarifying I didn't know if there would be enough fuel in the system to get it going anywhere. 👍
It would start then die! Then just crank and crank. I got another video that shows my kill switch
Keep up the videos m8. Love em.
No problem! Hopefully it was helpful for you!
Lol I don’t know who too look for on the 3rd Gen mafia group. Any tips?

is this the same for a 2nd gen 4runner as well? nice video
I don’t believe so. The wiring made be different sorry.
2002 model doesn't have the blue and orange cable
Bummer!
Is the wiring the same for a 3rd gen tacoma?
I suspect so but I’m not sure
Can you hook it to your starter wire so it won't even turn over?
Yeah likely same wire as what alarms use to kill the starter when it’s armed.
Good video but the car already have a kill switch ( fuel pump inertia switch ) positioned below the steering wheel. 😉
I think a photo of my Ex's Momma in the cab will beat any switch install.
Lmao

True
