Thanks Tobias, especially for explaining the specifics for the 2021 line up. Info like that makes financial/collecting planning easier for less experienced collectors, like myself.
That's a nice collection shown @10:46 . I don't own a single orange knife, but I might make an exception with the 2021 Victorinox Pioneer X. I had fun, thanks for showing.
I was upset to see the change in models for the annual alox scales. I was trying to build a collection of cadets with the annual scales. However I do yet have the folding hunter so maybe I'll pick that one up with this year's scales and hope they return with the cadets next year
I guess Pioneer X sales surpassed Pioneer sells and that is why they cahnged to the X. The Hunter Pro change may be because they want to make more sales off that product line.
The red alox looks great. I've only got three alox knives so far, all silver. I like the new orange color too! Thanks for giving us a look at your new pioneer x, Tobias.
Glad you found your Red Pioneer X you were looking for. I like the colors but I think I'll just stick with boring silver/grey. Thanks again for another good show Tobias!
The grey is at least $10 less and just as functional. I'm reminded of the old joke... If you're going to buy a Corvette It has to be red, because everybody knows a red Corvette is faster!
This is my favourite SAK. I have a silver one in my ‘man bag’ and a red, Knife Centre one on my desk. I also have the red Alox 2018 Ltd Ed set of SAKs. My briefcase has the Climber, which I see as the Celador equivalent of the Pioneer X.
Congratulations with your Red Pioneer X Alox, it's a marvelous edc! I'm not sure I personally wil like the tiger orange as much as the red alox. Thank you very much for the stickers! they arrived today and it was as exciting as a christmascard. I'm very happy with them. Also Kitty should have some nice treats as thank you for the nice greatings. So that leaves me with wishing you a very nice day and untill the next video!
Glad you enjoyed the stickers. I'm thinking about the orange but I'm also very much on the fence. As cool as it is, I might just get the Classic SD. I've got a pretty extensive collection of those. My real focus for collecting purpose is "Red Alox"
@@KnifeChatswithTobias In my opinion the red alox is the nicest by far. When you're fumbling in a drawer for a knife per excample it sticks out between other stuff. so that's an advantage too.
Hi tobias, nice video as always. I recently got a 4 blade pioneer and i noticed the blades, mainly the main one, are a lot more crooked compared to the classic red plastic handle victorinox knives. I understand this is to avoid blade rub, but i was wondering if this is usual for 4 bladed camp knives, so i ask you since i don't have any. It doesn't really bother me, but now i'm just curious. Thanks for your answer.
Yes, it is very common for camp knives to have the blades bent or "crinked" in order to get everything to fit. In most cases it really doesn't hamper the function of the knife once the blade or tool is deployed.
Sounds like the production staff wanted a treat! As always, I enjoyed the video. I also have the red alox Knife Center Pioneer X. Been waiting for a red Farmer X. Victorinox added scissors to the Farmer. Or you could think of it as adding a saw to the Pioneer X. Either way, you'd end up with the same tool set.
@@KnifeChatswithTobias I'd totally buy an "Explorer X" with the old style gray plastic & glass magnifying glass! Even if the old style magnifying glass cost an extra $50! Perhaps though I'm sentimental & biased. I remember my father showing me all the tools on his original Victorinox Champion as a very young child. I distinctly remember the magnifying glass (I had to be around 3 or 4 because I remember my brother crawling). As I got older & enrolled in Cub Scouts & later Boy Scouts, I remember him always carrying a Victorinox SwissChamp (He'd lost the original Champion by then). To this day, he still daily carries a Victorinox SwissChamp with the gray plastic & glass lens magnifying glass. He's the reason I got into knives. Even though I own many high end pieces, Victorinox still holds an extremely high sentimental value to me.
The can opener tip is usually a good enough Phillips driver for me - but sometimes, for very thight or recessed screws, the Tinker's version works where the can opener has no chance. But the best is probably the inline 3D version - it just takes up a lot of space, and is not available on Alo models (except for mods, of course).
I currently carry the Victorinox Supper Tinker as my every day carry. I love the Pioneer-X Red ALOX knife and have been shopping for one. I enjoyed your video. Does Knife Center always engrave their name / logo on the backs of Victorinox ALOX knifes?
Ther Farmer has the saw. The Pioneer X has the the Scissors. I think the one with scissor and the saw is the Farmer X. I would think the alox will warm up after a minute or two or would be warm depending on where it was on your body. I guess it would be the same as with the US Mil-K 818 all stainless utility knives. I never really thought about it but metal can definitely get cold and hot!
The orange is really nice. I'm still on the fence on which one to get. But no doubt about it, the Pioneer X is great knife in any color and the "Tiger Orange" is really eye catching. It is one of the best colors they've come out with.
yeah..I agree....they could have named it Pioneer Plus because if you hold scissors opened to a X like a cross it makes a plus sign too. :-) I love the way the alox look but without the corkscrew and the scale slots for the toothpick, twizer, and or pen...it just don't seem like a Victorinox.
When I first got my Woodsman, the instructions that came with it, listed the can opener tip as a Phillips screwdriver instead of "Small Screwdriver" I was amazed at how useful and practical it was.
I have used that Victorinox can opener screwdriver tip on a Phillips screw before, but I didn't know it was designed to be a #2 P equivalent. I definitely need to get an alox Victorinox. Oooh, Tiger Orange 🐅, Yes
I'm not a big fan of alox knives, but this comes the closest to changing my mind. I still prefer the Super Tinker and probably always will, but this is a welcome addition to my EDC rotation.
I think the major draw of the Alox is the heavier main blade. Some like that it is thinner and /or more durable. For me the "thinner" is really unnoticeable in the pocket. And as for more durable? I don't buy it. You need to really try to break the cellidor covers on a SAK.
I know what you mean ref the red alox and the pioneer x. I picked up a special edition berry red regular pioneer but wanted the x version too. Had to wait and then got a black one from DLT at a good price. I've really only carried the solo regularly (in a slip) and the green farmer a few times with no wear on the colors yet. I wonder how a black one will wear as that will be a real contrast with what lies beneath?
Damn I wish they would reintroduce the 84mm scissors.. I love that size for everything non outdoor related.. fits my pocket without notice so well.. a Walker (love the saw) my 9 times out of 10 EDC would be so much better a Walker-X.. just pulled the trigger on a small tinker.. the bigger one rubs a bit to much in my pocket at work.. of course on a real outdoors hike I carry the Farmer along with a fixed blade..
You're not alone. And I tell you what. I'd love to see them swap the Saw on the Walker/Lumberjack with Scissors. They could call the version with the saw the "Lumber Jack" and the Version with the Scissors "The Walker"
Hello Tobias. Love it, any SAK video makes me happy. Alox or not. Is it possible to remove the Knife center ad from the back same as on the normal red? All the best.
You can remove it - but only together with the red... You could cover up the rest of the scales and polish the engraving plate to silver, but I don't think that wouldlook better. (Unfortunately, Victorinox requires a shop logo on colored Alox knives...)
How about pioneer plus for the name? The pioneer here in the UK originally was called the sturdy boy and that's a name I won't argue with! I do prefer the original look with the old cross and red! I don't think it is possible to buy a better, stronger built model than pioneer?
I am dying to get anything Alox in red as it is my favorite color. However, nobody sells the red Pioneer X Alox in my country. And probably the shipping costs from ordering in Knife Center might destroy my wallet. Haha. That said, congrats on finding a red Pioneer X. It is amazing to use. Even just for the scissors alone.
