- Even MORE hardest to Hunters journal entries!The Hunter's Journal is a compendium of every enemy found in Hollow Knight, given to the player by The Hunter. The little knight is tasked with defeating enemies to add new entries to the journal. You must defeat a specified amount of each enemy to unlock additional notes from the Hunter about that enemy, as well as bits of lore, techniques for fighting said enemy, or even information about the Hunter himself. After completing most entries the Hunter's Mark can be acquired.
In this video we will go over the enemies that are the hardest to find in all of Hollow Knight. Some of these enemies only spawn once or you may not have known that they can be killed. Some of the journal entries are are going over include:
1. Void Tendrils
2. The Gorgeous Husk
3. Charged Lumaflys
4. Maskfly
5. Aluba
6. Menderbug

Note: In order to see the amount of creatures encountered and the total amount required to complete the journal, the Knight must have the World Sense ability.
The World Sense Ability is found in the Temple of the Black Egg once it has been opened by killing all three Dreamers. The ability itself is granted with the inspection of the Lore Tablet aside the Bench.

You can not kill menderbug to fill journal and get the achievement.
You can still break the sigh and make menderbug happy, because he is happy to repair this sigh
this is why I have multiple game files

if anyone wants to just see menderbug without killing him or him flying away, i suggest going into the room, breaking the sign, leaving to the left and reentering.
keep breaking the sign each time you enter if he isnt there, if he is you can go into the little hole beneath him and stand below him and watch him work and hum his little happy work tune :]
if you still want the entry you can stand on the platform to the left of him and blast a vengeful spirit/shade soul at him 🤷♂️

You don't really need to fo up the well for the mender bug to appear. You just have to make sure the sign is destroyed when you leave the room. I saw him when I was coming from the left, and used the shade soul on him... Also that signs won't be fixed. Ever.
I am a little sad that I killed him to be honest

I am determined to kill him on my current save file. This save file is all about killing, poor Songstress Marissa and Nailsmith and NKG. But I have yet to find Menderbug. I smashed the signpost and re-enter many times still no Menderbug. Help.
But on my 2nd save file, I'm going to keep Hallownest as lively as possible, no killing. Yep

Don't be sad about killing Menderbug. He wouldn't have stand a chance against the infection so his mind would be destroyed anyways. I won't kill him tho

Menderbug seems to be ancient, with equally ancient devotion. I highly doubt the infection could overtake him.

@@temmiehoi5683 A little late, but the wiki says there are 168 entries in total. 4 aren't counted as entries though they appear in the journal.
There are actually a lot more Maskflies in the room with the bench--probably fifteen or more. I'm pretty sure every Maskfly in the room is spooked when you use spells, because they're so loud. I found it easier to equip Sprintmaster, Dashmaster, Sharp Shadow, Mark of Pride, and Longnail to quickly kill more of them.

I just super dashed throught the room repeatedly, that's ACTUALLY how I figured out to can kill them and I think they're to ONLY enemy you can kill that way.

The reason there weren’t any maskflys by the bench is because in that room if one flys away then they all do. If you use howling wraiths/abyss shriek than they don’t fly away, so use that to kill them. There is also more scattered around greenpath, although most of the others are on the way to queen’s gardens

For the maskfly, you can keep respawning the ones in the first room if you just go in and out of the room after killing them.

What if we actually fought the Hunter when he already gave us the Hunter's Mark? We fight him and he ends his life as he has found another one stronger then gives us the Hunter's Journal and the True Hunter's Mark. We then can write down an entry of the Hunter, that would be cool

Nice video, like all the others! I completed the Journal yesterday but I haven't killed the Menderbug yet. I'm at 111% completion, only the 4th and the 5th pantheon missing and they are very hard
You only need to complete the 4th pantheon to get a full 112%.... but I get you still want to beat the 5th one as well

I just got the menderbug, and whats funny is I said to myself. “I should only have to go to the bench for soul 6 times” and then, not even 2 seconds later, on my 6th dive, he appeared.
You don’t have to sit at a bench for maskflies, just leaving and reentering is enough.

@@ballthatbounces626 of them all he is the most difficult, and yes it is possible to miss him and not get him as you arrive down the bottom you see him move at great speed away off screen which to be honest is very frustrating hehe... in which case you keep trying.

How many entries you got in your hunters journal now?? I actually loved doing the journal entries. As it got you all over the maps and area, was a great way to see everything this great game has to offer. Initially i just get it if get it later in game then will concentrate solely on the hunters journal and work on completing it that is how i do it anyways, but there is no reason why could not do it as you go... I guess whatever works for you :) Most important is just have fun... If you are wanting to know, the total number of possible entries you can get in the Hunters Journal is 165.... not all of those are needed to get it completed though some are just bonus's if you like but doing them all does give you a nice achievement.

Hey there. How’s your day going?
I know I'm a little late to this, but the great slash can be used instead of the dive. Just charge the slash when you enter the well and release it before hitting the ground because for some reason, the great slash can force you out of the falling animation the well entrance puts you in. Make sure to be facing to the left when entering the well so you actually hit the menderbug when he spawns.

I remember finding the menderbug and not knowing that I was supposed to kill em. I just sat there like an idiot watching the little fella fly away. What fun I'll have trying to find em again...

Fun fact: once you have discovered the mender bug his house will open down near where you find Sly. I’m not sure if the house will open if you’ve killed him or not.

I saw the mender bug without doing a desolate dive, it got scared and flew away 🤣
I think I saw it a couple of times and just didnt know what it was
I had the mender bug show up without the dive (I got him in the first few tries) but it seemed like you cant kill him without the dive because he went away before I could move.
The only one I didn't know about was the void tendrils, the maskfly I haven't completed but I know about it because once when I was going through greenpath to get to Sheo, I accidentally hit one while I was dashing and it gave me an entry
For the aluba the room with the white lady has one you can keep leaving the room to refresh its spawn
I knew there was something else in the map!!! And I saw the menderbug very early in the game but he run away... Didn't realize he was a specific bug.

apparently mender bug emits an infection cloud when killed, so, he was most likely on the cusp of being infected before killing him
so that erases the guilt a teensie bit, but still not fully,,,

Easy to miss, hard to find
Alternatively instead of using a spell to kill the maskfly’s you can use crystal heart to blast right through them. Just go to the Lake of Unn and use the crystal heart then leave and re enter the area and repeat till you get the full entry

I may try for all entries in time. I’m going to play Cuphead hard this coming month and may try to release video daily for a short period. Once I’m done with Cuphead I will come back to Hollow Knight if I haven’t started a new game like Super Mario Maker 2
