Note: I weighed the 40litre atom at 472 grams with the lap strap.

Great Vid. Love my Atom 35l.
It’s made a huge difference to the comfort of my hikes.
Being smaller than my Osprey Kestrel 48l, it forces me to think carefully about what I take. Plus it’s over 1 kg lighter than the Kestrel.
I initially got it to use just in the warmer months but I’ve done some pretty cold winter camps with it.
    Game changer for me.
    All the best Pete.
    👍

Mate. The Atom is a Tardis. I put 60 litre from my oex (2kg) bag into my 40 litre atom. Which was just an experiment. It all fitted, just. But the real game changer is the weight and even more so the way the atom is designed. Those stretch pockets, side pockets and bungees are a amazing. I can get my tent, poles and other large items (such as sleep mat and cameras or whatever) into the side pockets. On the last camp, I discovered that for a rapid decamp I packed up inside the tent. But then because it was raining I just stuffed the tent under the bungees and scooted, so I didn’t get sopping wet while packing away the tent.
Have a good camp. Your vids are great. P

I'm looking at picking up this pre-made version as well. It looks like you've added the clip on hip belt, do you think it's worth adding on? It's only thin and I'm not sure how much it would help weight distribution/stability.

I think the hip belt does give a bit of lateral stability. I’m not missing the chest belt as the pack seems stable and the shoulder straps are tapered nicely. I’ve done several wild camping trips and I am really pleased with the quality and the design. I deliberately carry as little as possible but I am amazed how much you can load onto/into this pack. IMO it’s worth every penny. Any qs let me know.

500g? That's a whopping 14% more than the 438g stated by Atom Packs on their Atom RE40 product page.

Just weighed it 472 grams, but I have a lap strap fitted, so they are probably correct

Nice one Pete! I was looking at these just today. Being UK-made is a really strong selling point, and they look great 👍 And where did you find all that sunshine?! Not sure it's tall enough for my stove, but should be okay to fit my tents into 😁 James.

I’m going to try a test tomorrow. I’ll put as much stuff in my OEX 60 litre and the see how much I can transfer. To to Atom. On the hike the other day I only had my down jacket and food plus cameras. My Zlite will go in the outside. Any of my tents fit into one of the large side pockets. I was shocked how much the atom 40ltr takes. It’s like a Tardis I’ll let you know the result of the test. Cheers James.

@@unclepeteswildadventures If your tent and foam mat will fit on the outside, that just leaves your XTherm and a 10 lb turkey to go on the inside! I don't NEED a super light backpack, but it would be an "easy" way to chop 0.5 kg off my summer pack weight. Looking forward to seeing the comparison 👍
