I do like an owd church and St Peter's and St Patrick's are absolute gems. Happy memories of birding trips with my pa and mates to Heysham down the years.
Some nice geology and fossils too😁
Love it! More camping with Rachel please 😄Amazing footage of the hills, and the sunset and sunrise was spectacular.
Greta views from a cracking little hill...glad your wife had fun...many more to come then ?
hi pete,,,enjoyed your look around
Cheers pal. We really enjoyed the day. Worth another visit. Apparently there’s some really interesting geology where those horizontal strata were. Atb.
That church was absolutely silent, with those stone walls and beautifully kept. A tranquil place in a hectic world. Thanks for watching. We did a wild camp last night, my wife’s first. Atb.
That church is incredible- so much history, I love anything like that. I adore anything to do with the Vikings ☺
Will that fit a lixada 750ml titanium cup? What diameter is the burner?
The mug that comes with the kit is 10 cm diameter. The measurement from the cup handle to its base is 2.5 cm. The handle rests on the shield cut out. Also I think sbp do make custom shields to fit your cup. Hope this helps.
Ps the shield might allow a cup a few mm bigger
Will that fit a lixada 750ml titanium cup?
That would depend on your cup’s measurements. Diameter and distance from the base of the handle to the base of the cup. My stove is packed in my backpack at the modem as I’m camping tonight. Give me the measurements of your cup and I’ll try and let you know in 48 hours. Also I think the maker do custom build the shield. For more info you should contact Speedster Backpacking Products website.
@@unclepeteswildadventures Hi thanks for response ill measure my cup tonight. Yeah ive contacted them no reply as yet.
Decent windscreen & built-in pot support. I will have a look for that. Thank you.
That's the Micro Light. The Micro Original has a Trangia alcohol stove. Just got a Micro Light but use hexamine here in Australia. Thank you for sharing 👍
Have a look at the speedster on my channel. Even better imo. Thanks for commenting
@unclepeteswildadventures I will do that. Not sure who would stock or sell it here in Australia, but you never know. Thanks for the tip.👍
Lovely limestone country UP. Loved the views to the mighty Cross Fell. 😎
Thanks Chris. It would have been a longer video but I left my GoPro on top of my car. 🙃 Car keys were in my bag so put it down. To be honest I’m sick of GoPro unreliability. Anyhow I made a bed on those flatish rocks which wasn’t uncomfortable. I find that bivy gives a marvellous experience through the night of seeing the stars. I want to pitch on the Romano Brit settlement up there. Cheers mate looking forward to your next one.
Loved the golden hour footage 😊Can't believe you slept on those rocks!☺
The ones under my back were all flat. Plus I had my foam Insulation mat and my sleep mat. Quite comfy🤣. I’m recovering from hip muscle injury so did want to scout too much for a pitch. I really did sleep ok. I kept looking out at the stars. I left my GoPro on top of my car so just had phone footage. This adhd tax🙃Thanks for watching. You’re nearly 100 subs 👏
@@unclepeteswildadventures Amazing place to spend the night 😊
Great trip..peace and quiet......can't believe you laid out on those rocks
I laid the rocks which all had flat sides. It was quite comfy and easy to avoid the odd bump😂. I had my foam/foil mat and the self inflating one underneath me. I slept fine. I love that hooped bivy. There were no midges cos of the wind. I love that you can get fresh air if you want. Being able to look out at the stars and not be eaten because of the mesh. Atb Steven
@@unclepeteswildadventures Sounds good mate
Very good! That tent looks cosy. It is a a bog fest up there😊
Only weighs 1 kg and goes up in 5 mins. Better view of it on my wild boar camp. It was similar route to your Dodd fell one only reversed. Was boggy in places but lots of the heavy going tussocky grass. That ankle breaking stuff. Atb
Love it! 😁👍
Me too. Used in on my last camp video. There’s something nice about a proper flame rather than a roaring gas stove. Thanks for commenting.
@@unclepeteswildadventures You're most welcome and thank you! While watching several times I couldn't figure out how you balanced the pot on two supports. 💡The light went on, it's resting the handle on the wind screen.💡I have lost count on how many alcohol stoves/burners I have made over the years and the puck stove has always outperform all others. My favourite has been the Monster Drink cap stove. Alas they don't make them anymore.
Speedsters website is not mobile friendly....
Yeah could be better. Worked ok on my tablet. They gave good service though.
£48, not bad price. 🤔
Good value. Easy to use stove.
Oooooh shiny… annnd practical
My go to stove now. Quiet and nice to watch proper flame. Atb
Exactly what I wanted to see, thank you!!
Very stable, easy to use. Thanks for watching. 👍
트란지아 마이크로 최고입니다. 좋은 영상입니다!!!
always interesting to see other campers take on kit, Alpkit hunka i can only use in hot weather due to condensation and when i tried the Elan i was flooded out as you saw on my video, it must all depend how much moisture you put out, obviously i sleep really warm so give off loads , hence why the goretex works for me, i wish i could get on with the Elan as its so much lighter, anyway we all need to use what works for us. cheers
Yeah use what works for you. Curiously I never get condensation that causes any problem either in a tent or bag. I am a cold sleeper though. Thanks for commenting.
Great review, I’m yet to use mine.
It’s certainly cosy. I think bivis are best used with a tarp. I’ve got a DD super light 2.8m x 1.5m. The bivi is full waterproof but a tarp gives you another skin and a sheltered cooking area. You can get a bivi pitched almost anywhere and more stealthy. I think these windy conditions are the future. An Elan will beat a Hilleberg for windy conditions. Thanks for commenting.
Have you cooked inside the tent? Some reviews suggest that's not possible but I can't see why not.
Yes I’ve done it with care. I just put the stove near the door at the front. In any case you can take a small tarp easily set up an extra cooking area. It’s still my go to summer tent. Light and v easy to pitch. See my other vids with that tent. I use the vertex pole for the tent and I’ve always got two trekking poles if I want to use a tarp. Thanks for commenting. Atb
Yorkshire dales a place which will be new for me to explore. Thankyou Pete for sharing.
Yes. Lovely up there. Good parking too. There’s a Romano-British settlement not far from were I camped. Nice to have you aboard. Atb
Looks like a good bit of gear! Liked and Subscribed
Thanks for the sub!
Bought one recently and tested it over the weekend. I wasn’t overly optimistic but it was excellent. Cosy but not claustrophobic at all. Minimal condensation at the feet but every bivvy gets this, whatever the material. Completely dry. The material is breathable.
I found that it was easy to get an airflow around the head. I loved that you could lie in the bag and look straight out into a star/moonlit sky. (See my Dun fell and Gt Asby videos). I like to use a tarp with it but it’s not essential. Thanks for commenting.
I had one of these. The gas leaked out the window when refilled. Not damage to the housing. Not dropped. It was out of guarantee but I bought another. Fingers crossed that the first was a dud. Great for heating cold fuel in ethanol stoves.
Thanks for the info. I guess you do get the odd duffer. Mine has been ok for a couple of years. Thanks for commenting. Atb
Looks like a great bit of kit, Looked at them for a while but wasn't sure if it was much of an upgrade on just taking a lighter.
Relieves toasted fingers 🤣and other accidental happenings. One of my mates dropped his lighter into the alcohol. Then his lighter didn’t work.
Ethanol is hard to light when very cold. A quick burst from this, like a heat lance, preheats the fuel. Hard to do the same with a normal lighter
Going for a swim sunday
Great spot that UP, tucked up against the limestone and near that tree. It's a splendid part of the world that. I was hoping to get up to Westmorland this week but the weather forecast is crap! 😭
Cheers bud. The view of the Howgills were gorgeous. I want to have a camp near the Romano-British settlement up there. Hope you and yours are well. Atb
Nice quiet spot up there Pete...well done on getting out with your bad hip
I totally recommend that area. The views at dawn were amazing of the Howgills. There’s a Romano-British settlement not far from the pitch, which I’d like to see. Thanks for watching and commenting. Atb
Great video ! Thanks for sharing !!!!!!
Really enjoyed that camp. Calm night and starlit too. The Tarpstar 1 is my go to summer tent. I did use it on Great Knoutberry which I did a video for. ( my boots froze overnight 🥶) I had a down bag and wore lots of down gear. Thanks for watching. Atb
@@unclepeteswildadventures I’ll be sure to check that video out too……many thanks.
@@unclepeteswildadventures I’ll be sure to check that video out too……many thanks.
Hi and nice camp out Great how the bivy was dry I can’t use Alpkit stuff it just gets soaked, I must give off a lot of heat Cheers
I never seem to have condensation probs. I’m a cold sleeper though. The Nemo bag was good. I found out when I got home, that I had left the gills (gussets on both sides of the bag) open so it would have been better if they were closed. Lovely quality bag and 400 gms lighter than my winter down bag. I like the mesh behind and I front of your head on the Elan, gives good airflow where your warm breath is exhaling. That self inflating mat was comfy too, it’s once a short one. Again a weight saving on the xtherm. Lovely camp that was. Thanks for watching and commenting. Atb
Love the tarp setup, might pinch that setup idea for my next bivi camp 😎
what patch did you use?
I used a Park patch which is really for bicycle puncture repair. Ultra thin, self adhesive the and size of a postage stamp. It is still holding 😄There are other kinds of waterproof patches such as Tuff tape etc.
Nice Poncho review Pete I always carry one great for keeping the bag and cameras dry...good call turning back in them conditions mate...the traverse path is OK but in them conditions getting up Black Force would have been difficult (it's very steep) Tek care and stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏
Awww....Ingleton ❤
Loved this Mrs UP..When are you taking over from UP.
I might have to pack my bags mate🤣
@@unclepeteswildadventures Ha Ha.
Beautiful here.
Great video Pete. Can’t beat a bit of Yorkshire water tumbling over Yorkshire rocks. Love this place after heavy rains. First went on a school trip in 1978 and have been going ever since. Loads of wildlife and flora. Somewhat spoiled in parts by idiots with beer bottles and litter though
Blooming ‘eck, no flies on you mate! Yes, I never tire of the place. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great to see you in the bivy, down gear is essential for the evening, if using a tarp, and you can offset the weight by wearing it in the night with a lighter sleeping bag, that seem to work for me, (although I really prefer the heavy sleeping bag and less night clothes but it’s all about what you want to carry,) And pitch where you fancy is a bonus Cheers
Cheers Adrian. I’m such a cold sleeper. As soon as I can I’ll downsize to a lighter bag or quilt. Either way I don’t like to carry more than 10kg. Thanks for the advice. Atb
How do they hold their guns ?
Good vid. Great camp. Great to see someone using tarp. Alpkit good gear. And Appleby bakery sweet as.
Really enjoyed it. I loved that you could see the moon and stars through the mesh in the bivvy. The tarp worked well at keeping most of the northeast wind off. Thanks for watching. Atb
Really enjoyed this Pete. Cracking area. Not as glamorous as the Lakes but much more character and proper solitude. I was on Kinder Scout last night. Absolutely perishing 🥶 All the best 🙏
Cracking mate. I just watched your latest vid. Yeah it was chilly on Gt Dun. Loved the bivvy. I could see the stars without leaving the bag. Never saw a soul except for those gun dogs which were super. Atb Steve.
Hi Pete, what a stunning morning & view to wake up to! A cracking view over to the Lakes. Great stuff. Cheers. Eddie.
Cheers Eddie. I enjoyed the bivvy, and being able to see the stars without getting out of my down bag. Hope you’re both well. Atb
Awesome sharing ❤!
Looks like a great area to explore, Really like the look of the Elan Bivvy
First time out, but I really liked it. There’s a mesh screen behind your head so you can see out. Then there’s one in front of your face, which you can also see out of. You can open that up wholly. The zip is long down the right side so it’s easy to get in to. Far from being claustrophobic I found that you can get good airflow around your head and you can open your eyes to see the stars etc. if you think I’ll take some night shots, all you have to do is unzip the side and take the shot. In a tent I wouldn’t be bothered to get out and do it. The bivvy took a beating in the high winds, but it was rock solid. That’s one thing that prompted me to buy one. I’m thinking that this last winter with high winds and rain (it’s 10k hh too)is the pattern for the future. The other thing is you can get a bivvy in anywhere. I’ll try and get out again soon and do a proper review. The small tarp also kept the frost and high wind deflected. Cheers bud. Thanks for watching.
We thought the mine area looked straight out of Lord of the Rings, very cool!
There was a brief snow storm in the valley but I was trying to get my poncho on quick! The camera never totally captures the towering cliffs. I’d love to root through the spoil heaps for minerals. Amazing place. Thanks for watching. Atb
Don't know if you've been in Scoredale valley Pete but its a belter imo {obviously when the flags are down}, canny old walk you did there btw.
Yeah mate. I think thats worth a look. I’d like to get up Roman fell too if allowed to get a permit to avoid dodging live rounds.
Absolutely splendid UP. Your grumpy despair at 'four months' of rain made me laugh 😀. Some good geology snippets too. In 1994 as an undergraduate I mapped the geology from Dufton Pike down to Murton Pike. Such a good route too you devised.....I might 'borrow' that sometime. Best wishes, Chris.
Ha! Yeah grumpy old bugger me🤣you’d love that mine track. I could spend hours picking through those spoil heaps. There was a brief snow storm in that mine valley. I even think I prefer that area over the lakes. Yeah I remember you mapped that area. There’s also a possibility of a route from where you get the hairpin on the mine track, to go up via where it says mine dis. And then along via Low Scale fell to Knock hush and up via Pennine way to knock old man. Hope you get out soon too atb mate.
