Chappell Roan was signed to Atlantic but they refused to let her release anything, and when she did, they dropped her when it didn't hit. Her producer started his own label to release her music, and together they made The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. She improved her songwriting, developed her image further, made some good connections, and now she's at the top of her game. I'd hate to see what would've happened had she still been on Atlantic.

I’ll never forgive atlantic for what they did for female rap. they tried to replace nicki with cardi by using ghostwriters, payola and buying her a grammy for best rap album (won over astroworld, macmiller and nipsey) all to prove a point that she’s bigger than nicki, and now 6 years later cardi hasn’t released her 2nd album and atlantic isn’t invested in her anymore since she isn’t selling and nicki is back on top. they need to invest in real talents and not these shenanigans.

Other labels for a long time couldn't put out a female artist cause she had the whole Industry in a pigeon hold. Furthermore she goes out of her way to blackball Other female artists. Nicki pays blogs to run smear campaigns against other artists, she threatens not to show up to award shows if another female artist wins in any category. She hates women 😂😂😂 You defend Nicki as if she is a girl's girl.

I've been side eyeing Atlantic Records for a long time now:
    • Not supporting their artists and basically leaving them to finance the making, promotion and distribution of their own music
    • Forcing artists to sign 360 deals
    • Using Cardi solely to take down Nicki after many other female rappers refused to do so
    • Signing talentless idiots just because they went viral online

I mean they are worth 1bil and have sooooo many top artists. If you're a rising artist and they've shown interest it would make sense to sign with them, especially if no one else is showing interest because it could lead to crazy collabs + connections. But yeah it's crazy how predatory they are, not trying to defend them, more so the artists that still sign with them. On Lupe's album Lasers he has a song called Till I Get There where he talks about his frustrations with Atlantic and fame. Since then Lupe has been advocating for artist to become independent. On Tetsuo and Youth Lupe has a track called Dots and Lines warning artist about record labels and their contracts saying not to sign. One of his recent albums, Drill Music in Zion, Lupe challenged himself to make an album in a week and he did everything with a $100 mic, beats from his producer Soundtrakk and Garage Band. Lupe wanted to prove that artist dont need to sign to record labels to make a solid album. Lupe has also been vocal about wanting artists to further educate themselves and pursue other avenues outside of music, so you their not tied down to just one thing

never sign a contract without a well respected lawyer present or at least not until a well respected lawyer has gone over that contract. it's just not worth it. especially in a cutthroat biz like music and film. honestly, artists don't need these lables at all, anymore. look at $uicideboy$, for example. they're pretty bigtime for independent artists who made their own lable. DIY. if you're good enough, you'll make it without the lables. you might not get a 7 figure advance but you get to keep your integrity and build cred. and cred, especially in hip-hop, is probably the most important selling point to fans. it should be, anyway.

You didn’t do a good job with the Nicki portion as expected. The clues to that being true is how cardi b was releasing single after single from 2018-2020 every artist from Atlantic was complaining about the lack of support from Atlantic while at the same time cardi had huge roll outs for singles that wouldn’t sell as much as the artist they were ignoring. Lil Uzi, YB, Kodak, and Bruno all took a hit in order prop up cardi b without having a substantial return on her. Hence why they’ve lost money for years after signing her. Their last financial report was the worst they’ve reported since signing her.

I’m pretty sure Why Don’t We (a boy band comprised of Daniel Seavey, Corbyn Besson, Jonah Marais, Jack Avery, and Zach Herron) was signed to Atlantic Records in 2016 and was forced to disband in September of 2021. They were put through mental, emotional and financial abuse by one of their managers, the manager that did this also has an audio clip of him screaming at the youngest band member Zach for ordering a salad. The boys all lived in a mansion but had to all sleep in one small room. The whole house had an alarm system that would go off if they left the room or tried to leave the house and they weren’t told the code for the alarm. They also said they snuck Gushers into the room and flushed the wrappers down the toilet so they weren’t caught with them, but they ended up clogging the toilet with them. (which is really sad that they felt like they had to do that) The boys were also starved and one member (Jonah) said he developed an eating disorder because he was told he didn’t look good enough. Corbyn said in a fans video that he was starving and also really happy to go see his family because he wasn’t allowed to leave to see them.
The boys (besides Daniel) were trapped in contracts meaning the only one that could release music was Daniel. They were all released from the contracts and Corbyn, Zach, and Jonah have released music since then but Jack hasn’t. Daniel had released a couple songs by then and all three of them seem to be doing pretty well on their song streams. Corbyn’s first solo song “Love Me Better” has vocals of all his band mates feature on it. Also it’s rumoured that it might have been a Why Don’t We song originally, which is why it has the other band mates vocals on it.
If you see something that’s not right please correct it in the replies.

Look up the band Savatage. They're a metal/rock band and were signed to Atlantic, and they were GOOOOOD. They released their first album in 1983, and by 1995, although they have gained a loyal cult following and had a few music videos play on MTV back in the day, they did not make it big... until a song off their 1995 album 'Dead Winter Dead', a concept album revolved around wartime during the Christmas season, gained attention. The song is an instrumental called "Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)", and Savatage would release it as a single under the name "Trans-Siberian Orchestra." It is now the second most popular Christmas tune ever, only behind "All I Want For Christmas Is You." As a matter of fact, TSO is the only artist that appears more than once in the Top 10 most downloaded Christmas songs; "Sarajevo 12/24" at #2, and "Christmas Cañon" at #8.
After that, Atlantic prioritized TSO and the main project would slowly disband (although, they would still play a big festival as Savatage every once in a while, with a large turnout, too.)
