Adding the vector lines to your own head makes your teaching style so much more understandable. I don't know why anyone else isn't doing this! Continue to make great tutorials that entertain! Thank you!
Now whenever I draw a portrait with the loomis method I always call it a "Loomie" Seriously though, I'm getting a lot out of these tutorials. You are an outstanding teacher.
SERIOUSLY THOUGH. I paused like a second before it to try to draw what he was demonstrating and then BAM, next second was that little box of nightmares. Holy crap..
I don't think I will ever get to draw like you. I am a fashion artist, but have been watching your videos religiously and practising for 3 months now. I have improved sooooo much. My work looks better than before. I can draw styles of poses most of my classmates can't draw. Thank you for your free education. I appreciate it so much.
The hardest part by far for me is getting that second oval to be in the right places. How you do it so smoothly and positionaly correct is beyond me. Once I finally do get it, that allows the points to be lined up easily, but that second circle in the main one which is the side plane just drives me nuts. I'll keep practicing though LOL at everyone else also terrified by 3:30. Glad I'm not the only one totally horrified by it.
I am right there with you with the oval place. As soon as that is not aligned properly, it throws off the other features entirely. It's funny how tricky it is to do simple shapes like that is!
Yes! This is my hang up right now. Front-facing view and straight-ahead profile make sense, but trying to draw any head from ANY angle I can imagine, feels impossible, because I have yet to find any explanations that give an actual formula for placing the flatter, side plane oval for the angle of the head that can be followed, no matter the position. Every single video I look up on the more complicated angles all say, “Then place the oval for the side plane”, or “cut off the sides of the head”, and then they just do it, but don’t really explain how they know that’s where it should go, or how big they should be, if that makes sense? Also, when he says in this video around @2:07 “then place the thirds”, but foreshortening or some such is a factor, there’s no explanation of how to figure out where they should go in these cases. Yes, longer or shorter, but again, no actual formula, as is the case with seemingly every other aspect of these techniques. Don’t get me wrong, these videos are awesome and very helpful, and the point I’m stuck at is a factor that NO ONE else seems to touch on either, so I’m not bashing his videos or channel or teaching style... but for those of us who are extreme beginners and are missing these specific tools from our new toolboxes, can anyone point us in a direction to learn this exact aspect? Help!
@@samtasticcreations The size of the circle is 2/3 of the big oval. The middle of the circle is at the same height as the middle of the sphere. The wider you make it the more the face is pointing away from you. Draw an elongated box and use the diagonals if you want to find the middle of the side plane
Gosh. You have no idea, how much I love you for the incredibly helpful videos! *-* I learned so much more about angles and the facial features within the last 25 minutes than in the past years. I never had more "Aha!"-moments in 4 videos than in every "how to draw this and that" video I´ve ever watched.
Easily one of the best videos for making the head. Foreshortening was the missing element when I was trying to draw the heads at an extreme angle, and this video helped me correct my mistake.
Hello proko TV! I'm from Brazil and I study art design. I was looking like crazy on the net a more enlightening on how to draw a head and thank god! I found the channel. congratulations on the job!
Love that contest addition to it. It's obviously way too late for me, but that was very smart way to include your fans into the video! Great tutorials, you address a lot of odd specifics that I always wish someone would explain to me, haha.
an interesting presentation of the correctness of the writing of a look, an image. at a certain angle. thank you very much for the review and information.
You are excellent.Your drswing videos are by far the most comprehensive and entertaining on TH-cam. I have to say that Loomy helped me get the side plane concept better.
omg i've been struggling so long on an art commission because the head angle was so awkward and i could find about 0 resources/references for it. but the second position in this video is like... exactly what i've been looking for. thank goodness. this is the best.
your tutorials are so helpful, and even incorporate a little humor--it is difficult to make a video tutorial that's actually instructive. thank you so much!
btw, i know this is what you intended and the blue lines just slipped out when the vid image changed perspective but probably good to correct it. when i did some similar exercises to this i used an actual 3d model of a cube and a sphere in a 3d software and it always kept everything in check. thanks again. good luck and cant wait to see more!
sir..thank you so much...for teaching in a very simple and interesting way..i was struggling to draw heads from different angles..but your video has immensely helped me.you are great sir👍

You're amazing! I had never used your guidelines before! I'm practicing it now. It seems to give me a much better idea of 3 dimensional space, and simpler than the whole "eyes are in the center of the face, from the eyes to the chin, the middle will be the bottom of the nose, and from the chin from the bottom of the nose, the middle will be the bottom lip of the mouth." Keep making tutorials please!! You're great! *cough* And very handsome *cough*
in video part 1, i mentioned that the side plane end usually at the outside of the eyebrow. So you would need to compare the width of the front plane vs the width of side plane (outside of brow to the back of the head) and then draw that relationship.
Nice restoration of Jesus in the intro! I love these videos. There are very few people giving as holistic advice for drawing as you do. It's a real treat and I'm so glad that someone is making art more accessible for struggling amateurs like myself

This is fantastic. Finding professional quality, free resources like this is a real help, especially for people like me who are almost entirely self taught. Thank you for taking the time to create these videos. I was wondering if you intended to eventually do more intermediate/advanced tutorials. Resources like this often stay at the beginner level and don't progress in difficulty with their watchers' skill. It can sometimes be counter productive and keep people at the beginner stage.
Me gustan tus clases, tus explicaciones, estoy aprendiendo y me vienen muy bien! Algo entiendo de inglés, pero para los temas más técnicos, los subtítulos me ayudan mucho. Gracias Proko!😉😁
great vids. super job explaining loomis and providing your own brilliant insights. great geometrical additions. i have one tiny adjustment you might want to make with your excellent loomi character. there is a slight inconsistency that might confuse some people, but will be, in all fairness, lost on most. in the beginning when he tilts up and down, your blue vertical lines shift out of being in parallel with the side verticals. this is an important relationship that should be kept.
the part from 0:21 - 0:24 made me laugh so hard xD (again and again). i really like that you're not so serious and stiff as many artists are :D thanks for the tutorials, they really help :D
