I started my career change as an artist by watching Proko's tutorial series, this was back in 2015. Now, it's 2022, I'm now a professional artist working on a video game studio and it's been a pleasant experience to revisit/relearn stuff from your channel. My humble beginnings started on this channel! Thanks so much for your hard work and dedication!
Any advice for somebody trying to take their first steps into the professional career side of an artist
@@scoob2263I do apologize for the late response, as for my advice, especially when reaching your dreams, there will be always a way (nothing is impossible for a well-determined person) but do understand the process and importance of hard labour & setbacks that will surely come..you cannot always have a shortcut, but there is no magic at all..just keep embracing the pain and the process..keep learning, take baby steps, and be the best of yourself everyday by investing upon thyself. lastly, always value the importance of proper network. 1. Im not sure lol
2. Me lol
3. It gives you (at least me) alot more control of the pencil when you draw with all your fingers
I believe it's just a charcoal pencil. People who draw with their shoulder and not just their wrist hold a pencil like that and that's why it works so well. Using your shoulder allows for a greater range of motion that your wrist alone can't achieve
1- Conte 1710 B
2- everyone? Lol
3- because you draw with your shoulder, it improves hand dexterity, and there is a greater range of motion than what you can achieve with just your wrist.

yeah, ive watched too many drawing tutorials for the face and head structure and i still havent gotten the hang of it.
you're not alone, so dont worry
I wouldn't maybe focus so much on these "construction" methods/ temples/guides, especially if you're already having trouble with this stuff. To me they actually make thing's more complicated to draw (first I gotta draw a circle, then this shape, then that shape, then 2 discs and a grid thang etc, just wanna draw a head!!!). What I do is just draw the head from scratch (usually start with the cranium/dome, regardless of head angle). Sometimes it will look very wrong (especially if new to drawing without "construction") but when you've drawn heads this way for long enough, you can usually get the right shape (to my eyes) with only 1 or 2 attempts. I think you just need a good idea of what the shape of the head "should" look like, and Im guessing this just comes from pure practice.

To me, the most difficult part of the Loomis method is figuring out where the cranium and oval is supposed to be. I feel like I mess everything up right after I draw the cranium.
It goes on the side of the head, from the top and bottom plane it's 1/3 down or up.
If you don't know where it's at in perfect thirds. Divide that circle by half. Then from the middle divide that a half again and that will make a third
Try reilly method it might look intimidating at first but once you get the hang of it drawing the head will feel very easy
trial and error. you will get a feel for it after a while.
try it out. if it looks wrong, then erase and try another way.
soon you will see the pattern.
also, watch the video on drawing shapes in various forms. that helps a lot with this concept.
watch the previous video
@@Crashgen 1/3rd? So you're telling me the width of the head is 1/3rd of the width of a circle. That is not correct.
Edit: I see what you are saying now. Divide the height into 6ths and make the cut-off circles the middle 4/6ths of the height.
Draws a perfect freehand circle, that alone is a skill
drawing a circle is easy, start by roughly sketching out a head, then rubbing out the parts you don't need.

YOU were GREAT! I'm definitely subscribing. Thank you so much! I was ready to pull hair out.
Very interesting using an Afro model. I did portrait painting in Africa for several years and instinctually struggled with the lengths and set of the jaws! My brain was used to European and it took a while to appreciate that most of the beautiful African I painted had a fundamentally different set and proportion! I’d like to mention my favorite model, a refugee from Zimbabwe called Lwazi who could sit motionless for hours with a perfect expression of peace radiating from her. When I asked her how she managed this she just replied in her equally beautiful voice
“I pray…”

this is so great- I am pretty much "self taught" as a pencil artist, and have mostly just drawn animals and people with no particular formulas or shapes as a reference, just looking at a photo and going for it, and they are pretty good. But I want to be REALLY good, so I felt I needed to sharpen drawing skills with another method, this is perfect- can't wait to check out the others and see where I get in a year :)))))) thanks so much!

after drawing my entire life, i still love to find these videos. As an artist you never stop learning
i vẽ messi th-cam.com/video/0oYubp7sDvA/w-d-xo.html
My then five year old son (2 weeks before he turned 6) drew together with me the side profile of a man's face, using the Loomis method. I was blown away as what he drew actually looked like a real person! The construction lines were far from perfect, circle was closer to an oval and some of the lines were less than confident, but the end result amazed me!
First of all, thank you a lot for this video! You are one of the best resources for learning I have ever found. From editing, to music and humor, everything is on point.
I have a question in regards to one aspect of the loomis method: In your older video you draw the (as you put it) rythm of the cheek/jaw from the chin to the ear, in this new video you draw it from the chin to the top of the forehead. What is the benefit of doing it that way or is it more a head to head situation? If anybody else knows, feel free to answer as well!
Again, thank you so much!
They’re just two different rhythms. The one from the forehead to chin attaches the side plane of the jaw perfectly to the side of the cranium. So it makes more sense as two forms that lock together. The one across the cheek defines the cheek bone which is an extension off the side plane.
Simple technique hope you like thisss 😍👇🏻👇🏻

I’ve heard many artists saying the Loomis method is very controversial, and that it loses the uniqueness of a face, but honestly for artists that like to sketch and quickly create a face, this method is perfect! I like to draw portraits but I always found it hard to find proportion in the head, this method really took my drawings to the next level! Now I feel confident in drawing any face and enjoy it!

It was hard for me too at first. But around 15-20 heads later I got the hang of it. And I'd advise revisiting the video every now and then to make sure you're doing it the right way.
"Draw a circle"
"Okay, I give up"
Wow that line drawn at 5:30 just gave me the "ah ha!" moment big time. The cross in the circle tracks the eye/head pointing direction! I kept drawing that cross more-or-less vertical regardless of head orientation... which sounds awfully silly now. My heads are instantly 10x better, bravo.
i have been watching Stan P. On YT since almost the beginning and he’s matured into a husband, dad and multimillion YTer. Congratulations to you, and great continued success in your art career and life in general.
I actually use a box to draw heads now, it's easier to define perspective for me, but I'm definetely watching these
XD I actually was just told about the box method, its easier for me aswell nice to see im not alone.
@@nerdycurls6253 Yeah, I was mindblown when I saw how much easier it is to manipulate the box xD
Box method > everything else.
Well... It's not exactly better it's just way easier to use imo. Makes a lot more sense
Hey, I used to do the exact same, but I've found that I tend to give too much of a boxy shape to what I'm drawing, but when I started implementing both systems, using the box to place it in space, and then the Loomis method to define 3D shapes, everything got way better
If you know how spheres and ellipses work in perspective, this approach is a lot more simple and quick for laying in heads in extreme perspectives.
