I agree and disagree. Women do get more shit than the actual problematic person. I do think dating a problematic person is tacit acceptance of his problematic viewpoints and actions. This tacit acceptance happens all the time, beyond just Taylor’s relationship with Matty. In an ideal world people wouldn’t date others who consistently, frequently say and do harmful things. I don’t wish to control who she dates but it is disappointing because I had friends who dated racists and I couldn’t hang out with them because the things their partners would say were awful and I didn’t want to be around that.

Apart from the whole Matty Healy/ Joe Alwyn thing, another thing that left me shocked was how both swifties and casual fans were like "oh I hoped she would just have her fierce single lady era" or " I wished she would have been single a little longer" or "This is not healty for her, she needs to heal" etc. Like, excuse me, who are you? Her therapist? Her parent? Her close friend? You have wishes about HER love life... Is she a movie character? And if Taylor were to do anything scandalous (e.g. the private jet), people should think about it, but there's a difference between this and her relationship status (because here, she is harming the environment, which results in hurting our world). I am a new swifie (became a fan in the folklore era), i enjoyed her music casually when i was younger but i never let myself be a stan of hers because i was 11 and in my head she had stolen Harry Styles (my boyfriend) from me. Can someone please explain to me why so many people are just believing rumors and headlines about Matty Healy without taking in the context of what was said or done? I knew almost nothing about him other than he was the front man of the 1975 until recently. when I look into him I find all his big supposed sins are being taken out of context. No one is telling me this is what he did… I go an look at the actual incident and what is being said isn’t the case. I’m so confused! I’ve watched his Zane Lowe interviews and others and I just don’t see the issue. I definitely don’t see a racist, antisemitism, homophobe… it fact, it’s quite the opposite. People don't understand how the mind of an artist works. They need a muse, they need something to inspire them, then they fictionalize the situation a bit, and make something that will move people emotionally and also feel like they see themselves in the story. If Taylor Swift asks you to be her muse, are you going to say no? I don't think anyone would say no to that, even if you know it will break your heart. Edit: how do I know this? From age 17 to 42 I dated artists, writers, musicians, painters, actors, sometimes I was the muse, sometimes I had to watch someone else be the muse. Not an affair, an artist-muse relationship. I learned how an artist thinks, and it's not the way the rest of us think. And especially not an artist on TS's level.
I have to add, the artist-muse relationship is often painful, disappointing, heartbreaking, with much arguing, and even lies and betrayal, but also a life changing type of love that may or may not be romantic, but will be once in a lifetime, and rarely lasts for long. It's just the nature of it. Excruciating yet beautiful.

I think you make a great point that people should be here for Taylor and not the men she dates. You said in a recent video that her muse is falling in and out of love and I think you are so right! She is going to be in many, many relationships and we should applaud that in her case because that’s where we get the music. We don’t know any of these men personally and we only know as much about their relationship as she allows us to, so pretending that we have enough info to have an opinion on who she should or should not date is silly.

Female artists who dated one or many people, but never married or had a family, or did so much later in life, after their artistic career had run its course, because they were married to their art, and their muse was ever changing: Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac), Linda Ronstadt, Cher, Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders) Joan Jett (The Runaways), Bonnie Raitt, Joni Mitchell, Ann Wilson (Heart), Debbie Harry (Blondie), Rickie Lee Jones, Carly Simon, and that's the short list.
I just don't agree with this. Taylor has built a good portion of her fanbase off of supporting women and POC. She personally decided to stir the parasocial relationship that would form in doing so, and she made her PERSONAL moral beliefs clear to fans, which garnered her more support. So to date someone who is openly racist and misogynistic, it's pretty telling of the behaviour she is willing to rationalize having around her, and therefore also what she deems acceptable behaviour. Obviously swifties don't know her very personally, but it makes complete and valid sense to question the authenticity of the support of these groups. Whether she was actually in support of them or if it was just her capitalizing off of these people and the parasocial relationship she formed. All of this could be solved with a single statement of clarification from her but I doubt we are going to get that.

I'm pretty stoked actually, because i love 1975. i bet matty's appeal to her is his passion and spontaneity, much like a breath of fresh air. joe is stability and reliability, much like a rock, but possibly too stifling for her in his environment as he likes privacy and may not like the world of the stars. However, she likes affection, public and private, would be my guess. i think Matty can give that to her. Not having someone think or affected too much about what others think (due to her fame), that is definitely Matty Healy, and that would be a very handy trait and complementary one to be with Taylor Swift. I agree and disagree. Women do get more shit than the actual problematic person. I do think dating a problematic person is tacit acceptance of his problematic viewpoints and actions. This tacit acceptance happens all the time, beyond just Taylor’s relationship with Matty. In an ideal world people wouldn’t date others who consistently, frequently say and do harmful things. I don’t wish to control who she dates but it is disappointing because I had friends who dated racists and I couldn’t hang out with them because the things their partners would say were awful and I didn’t want to be around that.

Her therapist? Her parent? Her close friend? You have wishes about HER love life... Is she a movie character? You can be interested in who Taylor dates and what she does without seeking to harm her or cause strife in her life. There's a difference between looking into meanings of songs, following what Taylor does, and critizing her for how she lives her life. As for the porn thing, most porn is made up and filmed by consenting adults. There's nothing wrong with watching a certain type of porn. Now if these are truly videos of people actually being abused and raped, that's messed up. But when the porn industry makes videos of fake scenios, it can be hard to distinguish a made up situation from a real one

I will say that obviously she’s grown and she can date whoever she wants, yada yada. but if the person in question that she’s dating reflects poorly on her character then that says a lot about who she is based on the company she keeps. I actually fact checked the stuff about problematic Matty but what happened was im now a fan of him. He is not that bad as what they're trying to paint him honestly. The only Taylor Swift content I follow is this channel and Taylor Swift herself. Thank you for being sensible about both parties being human. The only way one can learn from mistakes is to make mistakes, so if this is one, I hope she becomes stronger and one step closer to whatever she strives for. I actually discovered the 1975 from all of this drama. After listening to the music and watching interviews and concert videos to educate myself, I am now a fan of both parties! Life is everchanging, everyone.

I think that none of us have the right to judge her relationships in any ways, because they are not her job and swifties having opinions about her private life is not, what Taylor signed up for. her job is her music and thats all. Also, she is not actively hurting anyone with this.
And if Taylor were to do anything scandalous (e.g. the private jet), people should think about it, but there's a difference between this and her relationship status (because here, she is harming the environment, which results in hurting our world). So quite honestly, the world is facing way bigger issues right now, than some dude, who is dating Taylor Swift and supposedly has made critical statements

I am a new swifie (became a fan in the folklore era), i enjoyed her music casually when i was younger but i never let myself be a stan of hers because i was 11 and in my head she had stolen Harry Styles (my boyfriend) from me. I had to work a lot on myself and my internalized misogyny over the years and i hope these people do the same, because is honestly embarrassing.

The BEST is their recent Madison Square Garden live concert on TH-cam, the first half is from most recent album, with deep material where you see a lot of introspection, there is a middle 'performance art' section by Matty (bear with it) and then the second half is all their 'greatest hits' and see the show-man. Edit: how do I know this? From age 17 to 42 I dated artists, writers, musicians, painters, actors, sometimes I was the muse, sometimes I had to watch someone else be the muse. Not an affair, an artist-muse relationship. I learned how an artist thinks, and it's not the way the rest of us think. And especially not an artist on TS's level.
I have to add, the artist-muse relationship is often painful, disappointing, heartbreaking, with much arguing, and even lies and betrayal, but also a life changing type of love that may or may not be romantic, but will be once in a lifetime, and rarely lasts for long.

I think you make a great point that people should be here for Taylor and not the men she dates. You said in a recent video that her muse is falling in and out of love and I think you are so right! She personally decided to stir the parasocial relationship that would form in doing so, and she made her PERSONAL moral beliefs clear to fans, which garnered her more support. So to date someone who is openly racist and misogynistic, it's pretty telling of the behaviour she is willing to rationalize having around her, and therefore also what she deems acceptable behaviour. Obviously swifties don't know her very personally, but it makes complete and valid sense to question the authenticity of the support of these groups. Whether she was actually in support of them or if it was just her capitalizing off of these people and the parasocial relationship she formed. All of this could be solved with a single statement of clarification from her but I doubt we are going to get that.

The "deserves to be hit by a car" thing is thrown so easily without even knowing what it truly means. My grandfather died in an accident. He was hit by a bus. It was devastating to everyone in my family. It's been almost 25 years and the wound is still there. Your point about that Reddit thread being everyone virtue signaling to each other is a really good point. When I first found out about her being with Matty, I was like you, just here for the mess and the break-up songs. Then when I saw so many POC Swifties upset, I felt like I have to stop streaming or do something to be a good ally. It's a very "damned if we do, damned if we don't" situation: if you are bothered by this, then people will say you're too obsessed with a celebrity and need to go outside and seek help. But if you're not bothered, then they say you're privileged and you're enabling a bigot. This fandom makes me feel like it's a lose-lose no matter what we do

as a poc swiftie, you’ve described exactly how we feel too. none of us want taylor to be cancelled, it’s just that there’s this immense discomfort and constant gut wrenching feeling of knowing that the person you respect is associating themselves with someone who has openly spoken against people who look like you. and it feels like there’s nobody in the entire fan base who understands you. if we speak our mind and tell other swifties how we feel, we get guilt tripped, invalidated, or called ‘fake swifties’ for not wanting to ignore injustices. we’re not allowed to be transparent about how we truly feel inside.

I've watched the video a few times and yeah I can see where it starts to get harsh towards people who are just saying that they are uncomfortable with all that. I'm very sorry for what you and other Swifties like you are going through right now, sending lots of love your guys' way. My take is that it's obviously okay to express your feeling of not wanting to be discriminated against of course and people should be taking that more seriously and offering their empathy. I think where some people take it too far (and admittedly this is probably white Swifties going full savior complex mode) is when people say like you're a terrible person if you like her or stream her music now and get all high and mighty about it. I don't think that's right either. Let me make it clear that is absolutely not what I think you are doing. I'm pretty stoked actually, because i love 1975. i bet matty's appeal to her is his passion and spontaneity, much like a breath of fresh air. joe is stability and reliability, much like a rock, but possibly too stifling for her in his environment as he likes privacy and may not like the world of the stars. However, she likes affection, public and private, would be my guess. i think Matty can give that to her. Not having someone think or affected too much about what others think (due to her fame), that is definitely Matty Healy, and that would be a very handy trait and complementary one to be with Taylor Swift. She may need those kind of people to be her match. Hope they last!
