Not so much tips, but the ones that you exposed were so important and brilliant, things that didn't come to my head just thinking. Awesome video, new subscriber!!!!
Thank you Oliver for your cool videos. A question: when a free font or a free font family is downloadable on multiple websites (google fonts, fontsquirrel, 1001fonts etc), is the downlable font the same one on every site and if not, witch site would you recommend?
Great question, Marie-Christine! Not necessarily. I would try to download the font from Git Hub directly, if you find the link, or Google Fonts, they mostly have the recent version.
Do you have any thoughts on "justified" text (body text distributed evenly between the margins)? Should it always be avoided? Do professional typographers dislike it?
Justified text is cool when it’s well done, but on the web it’s hard to achieve. Even with hyphenation, the algorithm is “lazy”, everything that does not fit in this line, moves to the next one. This then creates rather large holes within one line, which destroy an even typographic color. And with responsive web design and shifting line lengths, things get even more complicated. So my advice would be not to use it on the web.
@@PimpmyType Interesting. So it it can look good if modified correctly. but this is harder to achieve in web format. I had a PDF in mind, so I'll try tinkering with it.
@@junktube4000 I’ll make a sparate video in the next months about text alignment where I got through the details. Happy to hear you’re motivated to try things out!
@@PimpmyType Excellent, looking forward! Yes, I've been going down the typography rabbit hole and I've been finding it all very fascinating. It's a good subject to know about, typography is everywhere!
"boring is better". Well said!
But only for your text typeface. Never got a video 😜
You are a wonderful teacher. Thanks for the insight about typography!
