What are you talking about? Okay joke aside that's a bit of a special case in my eyes as that was one project which was just "do as much as we can in a year:
there was a guy who was a year ahead of me in high school that was obsessed with Communism, or at the very least Russia. he always had a copy of the communist manifesto on him, he never ate in front of anyone, and spoke fluent Russian. He had a Halloween party my Junior year, and his family spoke zero Russian, so it was just him. he was also at least 6'5", so most people were scared of him. he was a decent guy if you got to know him (he and I both did drama), but I don't know what his deal was!
Mark is the productive version of 'that guy'. He has these hyperfocus topics, but he makes them work for him, and he's not obnoxious about it. He's the guy that 'that guy' aspires to be.

I’m legit experiencing a “That One Guy” during my first year of college. There is one guy… ONE… that will open his window in the middle of the night to yell some random dialogue, he even has a signature phrase “OH YEAH!” Now generally this guy at least limits himself to times where most people probably aren’t asleep but recently I woke up at a time that was so late my brain couldn’t make the rational decision to check the time. All I hear from outside my CLOSED window is this same guy screaming “[insert name I didn’t quite catch cuz I was barely awake] LIKES MEN!”, over and over, as well as his signature phrase, and some other random shit.
I have literally never played a guitar in my over thirty years of life. I cannot possibly be campfire guitar guy and yet no one else in my friend group is.
I'm thankful for distractible because it helps me to learn more about mark, bob, and wade. I was getting tired of all the "stop it wade", "bobs amazing laugh", and "marks unique voice". It just makes me a bit more comfortable to know them more than just TH-camrs who post videos for a living.

my most memorable "that one guy" was this guy a few grades behind me who sat next to me in spanish class when i was a senior in hs. pretty sure the teacher put him next to me bc i was quiet and i always did well in that class and he needed a bit of catch-up because he transferred from somewhere else but that was a mistake on her part because okay buckle up. this was at the time when cryptocurrency was in its early years and most people were either into it and knew how it works or they weren't and their idea of it was vague at best (me at that point) but this high school sophomore was full on robbing bitcoin from people and he was GOOD at it. he made BANK in stolen bitcoins. whenever we got a moment to talk he'd give me a quick update on what he was doing and let me tell you as far as i know he's still at large. literally admitted to theft in a high school class at like 10 in the morning on multiple occasions and never got in trouble. i thought it was impressive given how successful he was but it turns out stealing an unregulated form of currency means there wasn't much you could do if you got robbed so he probably did it because it was so easy to begin with. this kid got into crypto just to steal it from people. i like to think he's a right-clicking master with nfts these days.

Uuugh camp fire guitar guy. I KNOW a few of these dudes. The worst one, though the funniest story I have about one, was once at a very low key party/get together with some friends. One of them had brought their cousin who was in town, seemed like a nice guy but after a while you could tell he liked being the center of attention and did a lot to try. Such as laughing way to laugh at a joke, talking over people about something they had in common or just taking over a conversation about whatever he wanted to talk about. He juggled at one point and broke a glass cup and a few bowls because he couldn't do it very well and sent one flying into some dishes. Near the end of the night everyone had gone outside to just chill in the night air when all of a sudden in the middle of our conversations this guy just...pulled out a freakin guitar and starts playing. Where was it at? I have no idea because I swear I never saw him leave to go get it! And he never even asked if he could play. If we wanted to listen to music we would have played some. So here he is just playing....something and not very good actually now that I think about it and after a while we kind of go back to our conversations only to be told how rude we were being because he was playing and we were talking over it......are you f-ing kidding me dude? We're being rude? No one even asked you to play. My friend, his cousin who had brought him, was super embarrassed and was trying to get him to stop but he kept making a bigger scene by singing and playing louder. At this point myself and a few others get up and walk away but stay in eye sight and just go on talking. Which pissed him off more. How DARE people not pay attention to him. We didn't notice at first though after a while we realize he is literally shouting his song at us and the few remaining people watching went back inside or actually just left the place. We started laughing so hard at this which maybe got to him because he suddenly stopped singing but kept on playing until FINALLY my friend just rips the guitar out of his hands and goes GET IN THE TRUCK NOW. They left VERY soon after that. I'm still friends with that guy but I have no idea what that guitar guy cousin is really doing nowadays. Went to California last I heard...maybe to shout more songs at people?
I went camping once with my partner at the time and her friends whom I didnt realise - One of them was THAT camping guitar guy. Worst camping trip ever. This podcast is the best btw.

In high school, there was always a kid who said "If the teacher isn't here in 20 minutes, we can leave!" First of all, I've never had a teacher who was more than 10 minutes late, second of all, good for you! You can leave and get in trouble for leaving school during second period while I take a quick nap! Honestly, I think I got more angry at those kids for getting my hopes up than anything else

The “guitar guy” Wade was talking about is real. My ex was that guy we stayed friends after and he was always like that. But with him he just loves music so that’s why he does it. Like he won’t intentionally bring one. But if there’s one around and he notices he’ll go straight for it and start playing. He doesn’t expect you to stop talking tho but it will take up a large chunk of his thoughts. It’s like a gravitational pull. He’s even like “oh god I’m that guitar guy at the party”

I've got a That Guy story. So, when I went to high school, the school's IT guy was the only guy on staff with long hair and who wore shorts every day of the year, bar none. Walked funny, made NO damn sense, and was absolutely terrible at his job, not only because he was a technological black hole of stupid decisions, but also because he just... didn't do his job. At all. This is the guy who rigged up the entire school network on really stupid network protocols with horrible security holes, all so that he could play Quake with people. Anyway, he was convinced that deleting the registry weekly was necessary for running a good computer, refused to use anything newer than Windows 98, and was convinced that he saw aliens on the reg. Dude was Definitely a mess. He barely showered, he rode a bike everywhere and had to be the one guy to hold everyone up while he looked for a place to lock his bike up, and really was just kind of annoying as hell. He was convinced everyone mildly more successful than him was out to get him, and the moment the school finally said "Yeah, we want a REAL IT department", he was convinced he was being targeted for harassment by some unseen corporate overlord or something. He was convinced people were spying through fiberoptic cables, and insisted that a cheese sandwich should include two large chunks of sliced-off-the-block cheese at about a quarter of an inch thick. Seriously, this boy was... weird. And a bit nuts. But he was ALWAYS That Guy.
Bob, my family is "that guy" for holidays. Christmas and Halloween, we go beyond nuts. We grow pumpkins (over 200) in our garden for Halloween, and we have a huge cemetery full of gravestones and bones and body parts, with graves and zombies and inflatables. Then for Christmas, every tree and part of our house is covered in lights, and then we fill the yard with inflatables and light up figurines and blow molds. It looks super cool but it takes a lot of work, and people expect it from us now. People come back every year to tell us if they like it or not. I told my family we should start taking donations

I understand the "Awards" discussion. I think it heavily depends on what the award is about. A boxer or chessplayer winning an indiviual performance award and fake-humbling feels a lot more fake than an actor or someone in a teamsport getting it.
I was that guy that screamed. Randomly mainly, not at people. I would talk backwards. I was going for psycho. I was an outcast. Over 6 feet and rather large. Eventually was the guy that had 2 watches. Nice classic watch and a cheap sports watch with an alarm. My math teacher at the end of the day hated me. My alarm was set 5 minutes before the bell. Took 3 days for people to realize what it meant. Within a week, the whole class started getting ready when it happened.

I think I would qualify as both the kid who asks a lot of questions in class and also the guy who has a lot of ideas but rarely goes anywhere with them. And I have my reasons for both (to be clear I’m not offended just offering an explanation) I ask a lot of questions because I’m autistic and have a hard time understanding a lot of what’s being taught so I ask to make sure I understand, although I am a bit of a teachers pet as a result of things I don’t want to get into, and as for having a million ideas and not going anywhere with them, I also have ADHD and thus my brain is constantly shifting my attention to random things, but I understand why both seem annoying to people, as someone who’s disabilities make it incredibly hard to do school I understand why it’s annoying to have to listen to a teachers explanation to a thing that seems so easy to understand. Just know not everyone is like you and try to consider that/gen/pos :)!

So this one hit me hard mentally lmao because my older brother was indeed a Michigan man but he moved to FL. And he lived there for like 2-3 years. And he got into the bad scene and got into drugs. And died. So this episode hit a little too close to home lmao

I’m legit experiencing a “That One Guy” during my first year of college. There is one guy… ONE… that will open his window in the middle of the night to yell some random dialogue, he even has a signature phrase “OH YEAH!” Now generally this guy at least limits himself to times where most people probably aren’t asleep but recently I woke up at a time that was so late my brain couldn’t make the rational decision to check the time. All I hear from outside my CLOSED window is this same guy screaming “[insert name I didn’t quite catch cuz I was barely awake] LIKES MEN!”, over and over, as well as his signature phrase, and some other random shit.
I have literally never played a guitar in my over thirty years of life. I cannot possibly be campfire guitar guy and yet no one else in my friend group is.

my most memorable "that one guy" was this guy a few grades behind me who sat next to me in spanish class when i was a senior in hs. pretty sure the teacher put him next to me bc i was quiet and i always did well in that class and he needed a bit of catch-up because he transferred from somewhere else but that was a mistake on her part because okay buckle up. this was at the time when cryptocurrency was in its early years and most people were either into it and knew how it works or they weren't and their idea of it was vague at best (me at that point) but this high school sophomore was full on robbing bitcoin from people and he was GOOD at it. he made BANK in stolen bitcoins. whenever we got a moment to talk he'd give me a quick update on what he was doing and let me tell you as far as i know he's still at large. literally admitted to theft in a high school class at like 10 in the morning on multiple occasions and never got in trouble. i thought it was impressive given how successful he was but it turns out stealing an unregulated form of currency means there wasn't much you could do if you got robbed so he probably did it because it was so easy to begin with. this kid got into crypto just to steal it from people. i like to think he's a right-clicking master with nfts these days.

Uuugh camp fire guitar guy. I KNOW a few of these dudes. The worst one, though the funniest story I have about one, was once at a very low key party/get together with some friends. One of them had brought their cousin who was in town, seemed like a nice guy but after a while you could tell he liked being the center of attention and did a lot to try. Such as laughing way to laugh at a joke, talking over people about something they had in common or just taking over a conversation about whatever he wanted to talk about. He juggled at one point and broke a glass cup and a few bowls because he couldn't do it very well and sent one flying into some dishes. Near the end of the night everyone had gone outside to just chill in the night air when all of a sudden in the middle of our conversations this guy just...pulled out a freakin guitar and starts playing. Where was it at? I have no idea because I swear I never saw him leave to go get it! And he never even asked if he could play. If we wanted to listen to music we would have played some. So here he is just playing....something and not very good actually now that I think about it and after a while we kind of go back to our conversations only to be told how rude we were being because he was playing and we were talking over it......are you f-ing kidding me dude? We're being rude? No one even asked you to play. My friend, his cousin who had brought him, was super embarrassed and was trying to get him to stop but he kept making a bigger scene by singing and playing louder. At this point myself and a few others get up and walk away but stay in eye sight and just go on talking. Which pissed him off more. How DARE people not pay attention to him. We didn't notice at first though after a while we realize he is literally shouting his song at us and the few remaining people watching went back inside or actually just left the place. We started laughing so hard at this which maybe got to him because he suddenly stopped singing but kept on playing until FINALLY my friend just rips the guitar out of his hands and goes GET IN THE TRUCK NOW. They left VERY soon after that. I'm still friends with that guy but I have no idea what that guitar guy cousin is really doing nowadays. Went to California last I heard...maybe to shout more songs at people?

So, when I went to high school, the school's IT guy was the only guy on staff with long hair and who wore shorts every day of the year, bar none. Walked funny, made NO damn sense, and was absolutely terrible at his job, not only because he was a technological black hole of stupid decisions, but also because he just... didn't do his job. At all. This is the guy who rigged up the entire school network on really stupid network protocols with horrible security holes, all so that he could play Quake with people. Anyway, he was convinced that deleting the registry weekly was necessary for running a good computer, refused to use anything newer than Windows 98, and was convinced that he saw aliens on the reg. Dude was Definitely a mess. He barely showered, he rode a bike everywhere and had to be the one guy to hold everyone up while he looked for a place to lock his bike up, and really was just kind of annoying as hell. He was convinced everyone mildly more successful than him was out to get him, and the moment the school finally said "Yeah, we want a REAL IT department", he was convinced he was being targeted for harassment by some unseen corporate overlord or something. He was convinced people were spying through fiberoptic cables, and insisted that a cheese sandwich should include two large chunks of sliced-off-the-block cheese at about a quarter of an inch thick.
Seriously, this boy was... weird. And a bit nuts. But he was ALWAYS That Guy.

Bob, my family is "that guy" for holidays. Christmas and Halloween, we go beyond nuts. We grow pumpkins (over 200) in our garden for Halloween, and we have a huge cemetery full of gravestones and bones and body parts, with graves and zombies and inflatables. Then for Christmas, every tree and part of our house is covered in lights, and then we fill the yard with inflatables and light up figurines and blow molds. It looks super cool but it takes a lot of work, and people expect it from us now. People come back every year to tell us if they like it or not. I told my family we should start taking donations

I understand the "Awards" discussion. I think it heavily depends on what the award is about. A boxer or chessplayer winning an indiviual performance award and fake-humbling feels a lot more fake than an actor or someone in a teamsport getting it.
I was that guy that screamed. Randomly mainly, not at people. I would talk backwards. I was going for psycho. I was an outcast. Over 6 feet and rather large. Eventually was the guy that had 2 watches. Nice classic watch and a cheap sports watch with an alarm. My math teacher at the end of the day hated me. My alarm was set 5 minutes before the bell. Took 3 days for people to realize what it meant. Within a week, the whole class started getting ready when it happened.

I think I would qualify as both the kid who asks a lot of questions in class and also the guy who has a lot of ideas but rarely goes anywhere with them. And I have my reasons for both (to be clear I’m not offended just offering an explanation)
I ask a lot of questions because I’m autistic and have a hard time understanding a lot of what’s being taught so I ask to make sure I understand, although I am a bit of a teachers pet as a result of things I don’t want to get into, and as for having a million ideas and not going anywhere with them, I also have ADHD and thus my brain is constantly shifting my attention to random things, but I understand why both seem annoying to people, as someone who’s disabilities make it incredibly hard to do school I understand why it’s annoying to have to listen to a teachers explanation to a thing that seems so easy to understand. Just know not everyone is like you and try to consider that/gen/pos :)!
