  • Todays journey takes me back to New York with mike from good day for decay to discover about a dozen cottages forgotten in the woods. from the calendars we found inside, it seems that everyone left around 2000 leaving this place empty for over 2 decades.

    I was up in the Adirondack Mountains a few years back, and a friend of mine family rented one of these homes. They were so cozy, had a wood stove in ours, a front porch with two Adirondack chairs with no cushions. The homes were sitting around Lake George. It was one of the best times I ever had. Wildlife came right up to the lake in front of the house. Loved every second of it. All this was before 2020. Now everything has changed, and these places are not live able anymore. People could not keep up the up keep and with inflation making a living is very hard.

    Wow what a great find. I would have loved to explore these cottages with ya, man. I especially like seeing everything basically untouched. Windows still intact. No graffiti. The way it should be. Great video. Hope you're doing well, Jay.

    Omg! Those cottages all need a little TLC and easily could move in!.Imagine moving in on the homeless people that really need a home right now!

      Same though as I always thinking of places that can be redone for the homeless as there should never be a homeless person in our world & with habitat for humanity or just a few people helping redo them peace cc

    This is a little bit eerie. Kinda a looks like the people left in a hurry. Like they were fleeing some sort of cataclysm. I doubt that was the case, it’s just the first thing I thought of.

    I just dont understand why people leave so much stuff behind. You see it all the time. Crazy! Do you know why these were left or used? They almost look like labor housing. Good video!

    Hi! Jane here. I wonder if these were Chautauqua cabins? People would gather for a week and talk about a particular theme.

    Pretty sure there is a documentary about this camp, because it was a summer refuge in the 1950s and 60s for some artists from NYC.

    I was thinking a vacation colony like Dirty Dancing. There is another movie from 99 takes place in 69 A Walk on the Moon. Liev Schreiber plays the dad & it a Jewish family staying at the cabin for the summer & it is exactly like the first one.

    Where is the context? Are these a bungalow colony or is there a resort just around the corner, which would make them seasonal workers cottages.

    • @journeywithjay
      @journeywithjay  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm pretty sure these were bungalow colony, I noticed a bunch of them while driving through the Catskills. Some I wasn't sure if they were abandoned or not

    i always wonder who bought the land, who built it, who ran it, who visited, why did they let it go, lack of money, too old, the parents died and they had not children or the children didnt have the time or money to fix up and sell
