If you're wondering, the crossword really did appear in a national newspaper. Steve really went above and beyond for many of his prize tasks/presents for greg
You might remember, aaaaaaaaaaaall tne way back at the beginning of Series 3, Sara Pascoe brought in a clock of Freddie Mercury that sne said she originally got for her boyfriend. That boyfriend was John (it didn’t work out). He just really, really loves Queen.
I came to the comments section just to write about this little fun fact. Don't know if it has been mentioned in previous episodes. Before this series I only knew John from the mock the week episodes he did with Sara.
You absolutely have to watch Inside Number 9 to see more of Steve Pembertons brilliance. Its honestly one of the most well written jaw dropping shows you'll ever watch. There's even an episode all about Cryptic crosswords which will blow your mind
@@williamburnham3659 undoubtedly, I genuinely don't understand how their brains work. Genius gets thrown around a lot these days but Reece and Steve are absolutely genius. Can't wait for the stage show next year!
You need to watch the channel ‘Cracking The Cryptic’ where Simon takes you through solving Steve Pemberton’s cryptic crossword that he did (just for your own interests of course). I loved seeing both sides of this moment with the reveal he had created a crossword and the actual solve with Simon figuring out the hidden message :D
Steve Pemberton stars in a cryptic crossword themed episode of Inside No. 9 (S03E03, The Riddle of the Sphinx) which is definitely worth watching as it's also one of the best episodes!
Apparently he constructed the Guardian’s cryptic crossword on that day as well. When his Taskmaster cryptic was published, also under the pseudonym Sphinx, people suspected that Steve was appearing on TM.
Joanne and Sophie genuinely thought and called them presents. It was almost a spoiler when Joanne repeatedly called them presents in the Episode 5 podcast.
Joe Wilkinson was in series 2. In addition to 'Potatogate', that series included the 'create a music video for a nursery rhyme' task, in which Doc Brown chose the nursery rhyme you didn't recognise when Steve quoted it during set-up for this episode's Thumb War task.
I'm a huge fan of The League Of Gentlemen so I thought I'd check out an episode of Inside Number 9, but the one I watched upset me so much that I couldn't bring myself to watch any others (it was the Krampus episode).
Regarding Taskmaster AU, series 1 was amazing. I think the Tom Gleeson is really a great Taskmaster. He's more acerbic and witty. They've recorded 3 series, but are airing series 2 and 3 in reverse order.
As has been mentioned, Inside number 9 is a great anthology show. The episode relative to Steve's crossword skills is called "The Riddle of the Sphinx" it is series 3 episode 3. With it being an anthology show, each episode is completely separate so trying this one alone would be no problem. I think this episode would be right up your ally. ENJOY
(but on the subject of overhyping - there were a couple of tasks that fell super flat, but was made up for by the cast. i think we like s16 mostly for the cast dynamic and the in studio banter)
I don’t mind when you get round to all of the back logged TM content. Just think of all the videos we’re gonna get out of it, whenever that ends up being. Also I believe they had rum at house for Joanne's attempt that was left over from the gloves task. I think they shot those on the same day for her.
Actually, i was kinda meh on this season, but this episode made me like the contestants a lot more. Like all of them. And i'm really excited to see you watching series 16. It's insane.
Dave Gorman also does cryptic crosswords, have seen one of his on Cracking the Cryptic. Can't remember if he has been on Taskmaster, seems like his sort of thing.
I am enjoying this series, I do think Nick suffers a bit being paired with Steve . Gregg definitely penalised them a bit harshly but nice to see a different winner . Thanks for sharing your thoughts Neil , you'll be caught up in no time .
I hope you get around to Real Hemisphere TM at some point, Aussie TM is about to start the second season (3rd filmed) and TM NZ is still ticking over nicely
tbh treating the prize task as Greg presents makes total sense, because he judges them, not the episode winner. but tbemh, Alex's reaction is just prizeless, that would be reason enough..
John does a very funny podcast on BBC sounds with Elis James. Well worth listening to it. Evert Tues and Friday . You'll get the type of person John is from that. ie extremely competitive and nerdy about stuff in a self depreciating way.
Richard Osman has a newish podcast together with Marina Hyde called "The Rest is Entertainment" in which they discuss/explain what goes on behind the scenes of TV and movies. They have talked about Taskmaster a couple of times. For example, Richard said, that the players don't actually get to keep the "prizes".
I wonder if there is a statistic whether its better to be in a team of 2 or 3 on TM...I know a few instances where 3 was better (like today) but that could be my scewed memory.

i remember the inside no 9 subreddit going crazy over it because it came out before the contestants were announced lol

Steve and Reece are two of the best writers and performers around today 😊😊😊😊

I am on a mission to see this. I need more Steve Pemberton.
they are releasing the outtakes as they go along, well worth a watch

i didnt know Steve was Sphinx

Its great to see you back. Always enjoy your reactions no matter what they are.
I'm sure lm not the first to recommend Inside Number 9. They're half hour TV plays Steve Pemberton co wrote and stars in. They really are brilliant
Amen. Legitimately some of the finest tv of the last few years. I’ll be sad to see it go this year.
I quite agree, No spoilers but one of the darkest episodes did involve a cryptic crossword 😊😊😊😊😊
I'm a huge fan of The League Of Gentlemen so I thought I'd check out an episode of Inside Number 9, but the one I watched upset me so much that I couldn't bring myself to watch any others (it was the Krampus episode).
It is very much in the vein of Black Mirror or the Twilight Zone. Horror comedy with a heavy emphasis on twists.
@@PokerJoker811 indeed, but far better than Black Mirror
Love knowing you are going to do a lot of Taskmaster in the next months....
Regarding Taskmaster AU, series 1 was amazing. I think the Tom Gleeson is really a great Taskmaster. He's more acerbic and witty. They've recorded 3 series, but are airing series 2 and 3 in reverse order.
These reactions are always a treat when they pop up. Looking forward to you doing series 16 too. All the best.
I immediately knew that Alex wouldn't bring up the fine margins if it wasn't regarding Steve and Nick's team.
16 really was a great one. Felt like early taskmaster again.
I love the Presents task.

I'm so happy you're doing this
You can watch drunk Alex if you want, he's on an episode of Drunk History UK. A lot of TM alumni appeared in it.
i'm so excited for you to watch s16!
(but on the subject of overhyping - there were a couple of tasks that fell super flat, but was made up for by the cast. i think we like s16 mostly for the cast dynamic and the in studio banter)
Are you a child of divorce?
Same, the blend of characters shouldn't have worked and yet....they're absolutely delightful together.
They might as well be presents. Greg stopped awarding them based on fulfilling the description and instead now rewards what he likes
if ice cubes in wine were a solution to a task, the smart players wouldve cooled the bottle in an ice bucket.

I'm still kinda meh on this series.. None of the contestants really click for me, but maybe I'm a little bit over-saturated on TM content.
Don’t get me wrong I didn’t dislike s16 or any series for that matter but I’m surprised that everyone else seems to rate it so highly lol
Dave Gorman also does cryptic crosswords, have seen one of his on Cracking the Cryptic.
Can't remember if he has been on Taskmaster, seems like his sort of thing.
He was on series 3, and was famous for cheating multiple times.
On the podcast sometimes they go into those production details
I rarely comment, but 16 really is a brilliant season. Enjoy my friend
Hey Neil, you might want to react to The Traitors UK and AUS, I think it's right up your alley.
I am enjoying this series, I do think Nick suffers a bit being paired with Steve . Gregg definitely penalised them a bit harshly but nice to see a different winner . Thanks for sharing your thoughts Neil , you'll be caught up in no time .

I agree that these were definitely weaker tasks this episode, but overall I still enjoyed it quite a lot.

but tbemh, Alex's reaction is just prizeless, that would be reason enough..
There is a Canadian version of Taskmaster...
Do you ever watch the outtakes on the taskmaster channel?
John does a very funny podcast on BBC sounds with Elis James. Well worth listening to it. Evert Tues and Friday . You'll get the type of person John is from that. ie extremely competitive and nerdy about stuff in a self depreciating way.

They cover it on Taskmaster: The People's Podcast. It's from a recent ep, I just don't remember which or, unfortunately, what Jack's stats said.
You were never a Brian Blessed but gruff enough.
Taskmaster Australia (Series 1) is just as good as any of the UK ones.
Yikes
👍
Steve’s “presents for Greg” comment was just to get under Alex’s skin after the ladies called the prizes presents.
Rick and Morty.
TM Australia series 2 has just started
I think series 17 of TM is far better than 16
