    Nice, I have a 55g from the pet store, but I'm about to build my own tank.

    If its possible and not too much to ask can you give a set by step to how you guys constructed that filter system! Please!

    Also I read the comment about the support railing but more specifically I was wondering what the brace or style of brace you guys used? I just don't want my tank exploding on me.

    I built my own 50 gallon aquarium last week with strange dimensions : 0.8x0.3x0.8 meter . tempered glass 6mm .. still wondering if it stands the high pressure :)

    Did it have support rails along bottom and top?

    Here are some tips wear those gloves with rubber nibs on them to help grip the glass panels. Mask out all the pieces first to make good lines. Have your tape under the bottom piece ready to flip up and hold the panels. Use aquarium silicone such as GE 1200 series, Aqueon, or Marineland, I am sure there are better choices for a complete glue up than cheapo silicone. Be careful most aquariums do not come with polished edges and will cut the shit out of you.

    Just got a 125g but it's missing the piece of glass that goes across the top in the middle. Is that necessary if so were can I get one?

    Ok so I just got a 150 gallon tank and its not in the best shape and I am thinking about just doing what you guys did, my major concern is the bracing on the tank, did you brace yours? The glass is half an inch thick. Also how hard was it to take the tank apart?

    The silicone to use would be GE type I window and door. Do not use anything with anti anything in it. Just 100% silicone.

    I recently bought an "aquarium". it measures 5' long x 3' tall x 2' deep but it is only 3/8" untempered glass. it has no bracing at all. the top and bottom frames will need to be replaced. the guy I bought it off of said he has had water 9 inches from the top. I am afraid of filling it to the top. it has been sitting empty collecting dust. I am wandering if euro bracing would allow me to fill it up to a couple inches from the top. any thoughts on whether it even makes sense to try? what would be the minimum with and thickness of the bracing? any help is greatly appreciated.

    what could be the best size of glass to build 48*24*30? will 8mm work or do i have to use 10mm?

    • @FrenlynAguilar
      @FrenlynAguilar 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use 10mm if you want to be more safe you can also use 12mm
      Im did a 40*24*24 with 10mm to be sure.

    I just got a 100 gal 48x24x20 starphire rimless aquarium. The silicone (black) on the front glass has shrunk a bit. But its not leaking yet,why take the chance. Im setting a reef up. Now do I need to strip all the silicone or just the front corners.

      joel D - I had to do the same thing with my 120g tank... started dripping. I took the bastard apart with a thin guitar string, got a window scraper (Removable razor blades kind, not plastic scraper) and started scrapping... 72 hours later my glass was clean and bran new... I resealed it with 100% silicone, aquarium safe (not going to name it, then you will blame me for wrong info lol) ... it is good to go now. The reason for cutting out all the silicone is you need every Bead of Silicone to be uniform... all 8 Beads should be One. Meaning, they need to cure together, sealed. I you just cut out the inner bead then it will separate the bond, the bond it the strength. If you just reseal inner silicone then the silicone between the panels will stand alone, and be very weak. Also quite vulnerable to weak points, pressure cracks and leaks. On a smaller tank, I would say 30g and under you can to ahead and just reseal the inside... but any bigger and I recommend a full rebuild.... ... A BIG PART OF A SUCCESSFUL RESEAL IS YOUR SILICONE HABDLING... there are good Silicone/Caulking applications and there are VERY BAD... those who know how and those who don't.

    Я обычно клею стенки не на дно,а сбоку.При таких больших литражах мне кажется это не правильно

    so much bad information in this video. never use home Depot silicone when replacing the primary seals of a large tank. there is a huge difference between consumer grade and professional grade. use momentive rtv 100 series. you also laid the silicone bead, then wiped the glass with acetone, meanwhile your silicone is beginning to skin over. always have your glass 100% clean before even starting. never use tape to hold the panes together, use clamps.
