Tip I learned from my Forstwirtschaftsmeister: When you use the compressed air to clean your Bar, don’t blow the dirt into your sprocket blow in the other direction. I really enjoy your Content, keep it up!
Thanks for the video. As arborist for many years, I always like to see other ways people do stuff. I can always learn something new or different to help make anything easier or more efficient. I agree preparation is everything. Once in the woods, you do not have what you do not have. I have always sharpened my saws sitting down. I just found it works for me in the field. Others I know some who sit on top of the saw and some use a vice. Whatever works best. I would mention I always carry a pickaroon along with an axe. I recently learned a little trick with saw chaps that makes them into a burrito for easier storage. I will try find a way to get you a little video showing you the method.
The last video you made about the man cave was straight truth. Really majored that piece of content. To be honest I enjoy most your content 99% so if I offer constructive criticism it’s because I love your channel and want it to continue to succeed.
@Electron42 he's relating to the fact that new wranglerstar videos are all just clickbaity titles meant to grab your attention and don't actually give a good idea of what the video is about. no need to challenge intelligence levels on a comment that is 100% true
Well said. Best chainsaw maintenance video I've ever come across. Thank You Sir. You have given me the direction I needed. Thank You so much for sharing your knowledge and experience.
An excellent kit. I made the mistake of putting the chain on backwards the first time I cleaned the prior owner's sawdust out of the saw and sharpened the chain... wondered why I was smoking the wood and the chain teeth were discoloring. Boy was my face red with embarrassment even though I was alone. I love keeping foamies around, but the modern hard hats can have integrated over-ear muffs... but man is that uncomfortable when you're sweating.
From Queensland Australia lots of thanks I have been watching you for years and you continue to be a wealth of information. All the best to you and your family.
11:35 When you put your chains in that bag after you finished sharpening them might I suggest you keep them in a plastic container that way you can put some oil in there and it keeps them from rusting and nice and oiled up ready for use
Awesome upload! Is there such a thing as a class / practice group for learning hands on for the Do's and Don'ts of tree felling ? Wrangler Star as the teacher 😂 That would be a class I would sign up for. You bring us quality information with sincerity. Keep it up brother!
Hey wrangler star, I’ve been looking through your videos and have seen a little bit of it but was wondering if you could make a video on compression/tension cutting trees. Your experience and knowledge would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Thank you Wranglerstar, I admit I've valued your input on saws and axes for years before, at this point I have the access to more reasonable axes and saws that you've suggested but I still would rather stick to the best. Buy once, cry once eh? Thank you for your input, and please brother stay safe!! God bless and may your family remember and honor you as you deserve! God Bless!
Great info in this video! I do have a question though. I can't seem to find an oil and gas combo can available in the US, does anyone know where they are available? That has to be one of the single most useful pieces of kit when running a saw.
Limiter strews on the carb, important for Proho when you first get the saw. I think going over how to tune a power head would also be great info. Great vid as always!
Hey Codie, whats your opinion of those dremmel bits for sharpening saws, in my experence they are fast and effective. Do they dammage the chain anymore then a hand file.
Love the advice about creating a good, clean working environment, which can directly contribute to the quality of your work. I also agree with you wholeheartedly when you said “You see to yourself first.” I usually put everyone’s needs ahead of mine and end up neglecting myself, but deep down I know that taking the best care of myself will allow me to take the best care of my loved ones. love seeing updates to kits you introduced to us in years past. especially the tools from yesteryears its interesting to see what is new and what is reinstated. Especially that little Stihl chain sharpener very good stuff very informative 👌
Do you have any recommendations for a small, inexpensive Chainsaw? I need it mostly foe liming and small diameter brush and trees (under 6 inches). Presently I am considering the Poulan PL3816 or the Stihl MS180.
Maintenance tips are very helpful and much appreciated. Not a heavy user myself. Have small Stihl. Used mostly for dead limbs that come down during storms. I never did master the filing thing. Use the Stihl sharpener. It is great.
I find the the quart size zip-lock freezer bags work great for the chains. Also use them for many other organizational tasks in my shop. Gallon size are handy too. They are see through and can be marked with a sharpy.
This is very useful i have a MS290 farm-boss and still need a few things to compleat my kit. You said you lived in colorado once? Where did you go for your chain saw supply’s? Thanks 👍

What kind of fillers / nozzles do you have on your gas can? Most of the gas cans I’m looking at seem to come with either flimsy nozzles or something that’s overly complicated and oversized. I like how compact your nozzle is.
Great video Cody! I recently done a free chainsaw course just to learn more about saws. I know some people that basically file off the rakers as soon as they get a new chain. Act accordingly
Great tips. Thanks again for another great video. Though I prefer to keep my spare chains separate and individually wrapped in old cloth to keep the tips from nicking each other. After going through the work of sharpening, I keep them away from metal, mud, and skin. Wood only!
