    Great instruction video for beginners - very clear, very thorough. Wish I'd seen it before I recently did my first beaded Kumihimo project where I didn't know, and the instructions weren't clear, to tuck the bead under the cord. (After completing an entire necklace and it didn't look at all like the picture, I then found out about tucking the bead under. Redid the necklace and it came out great.)

    For those of you having trouble with the tape method. Instead take an extra bead & tie it in a simple knot at the end. Not extremely tight so you can undo it or just snip it off when done. This will prevent the sliding beads from falling off. Works great!

    @Dennis Siple - Yes you can buy the Spiral Toggle Clasps separately on our website.

  • @Dennissiple
    @Dennissiple 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I would think that the tape might let loose from the braid and come out of the spiral clasp (do you sell that clasp separately?). I'd rather wrap thread around the braid - or whipping it - then cutting and gluing. I think the glue would stick to the thread better than the tape.

    • @beccity98
      @beccity98 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Dennis Siple Right? I had this same question. Won't the tape eventually slip off? Maybe if you soaked the naked cord in glue, rolled it to make it small, then put it in the glue-filled hole? Or use the toothpick to shove it in there?

    • @kititicha
      @kititicha 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whit that kind of cord you can use a lighter to seal the ends and then put the glue and the clasp without the tape.

    finally someone that has explained every single step of the way for kumihimo! thank you thank you thank you. except how do you know when you need to start adding your beads. I mean does it matter what color you add first?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +cathi johnson In a project like the one depicted in the video, it does not matter which color you start with. You determine your pattern based on how you load the beads onto the warps before you do any of the braiding, so once you are to the point of braiding, you will not need to think about the pattern or where to start because it will just naturally manifest. I always recommend braiding at least an inch without beads to start, just so you have enough room to add your clasp later. I hope this helps.

  • @JewelrybyJeanette
    @JewelrybyJeanette 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you separate the cords and slide them into the notches before you add the beads, the cords won't get tangled together. :)

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a really good tip. I'm a little afraid to check and see how many years we kept doing it the way we do it in this old video because it really is much simpler to notch the cords first.

    Beautiful bracelet that seems to be fairly simple to do, but I have a couple of questions. Can you do a spiral bracelet with more than 8 warp cords?I’m curious about the cord, too. Can the cord be used to bead on a loom or to do peyote beading? Thank you for these great videos for learning new techniques.

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Although we do not have a tutorial on it, you could make a spiral bracelet with more than 8 warps. The cord we are using can also be used for bead looming and bead weaving, just make sure that the beads you are using can accommodate the cord, which is 0.5mm thick. Thanks for watching!

      Our kumi kits vary a bit depending on the design, but following the measurements in the written instructions should produce a 6.5 to 7 inch bracelet generally. That's a common adult bracelet size so that's what we design for. We generally include enough beads to add another half inch or more beyond the measurements in the instructions. If it looks like you kit was short beads let our customer service team know and they'll be happy to help: service@beadaholique.com

  • @VioletSkye19
    @VioletSkye19 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Girls, just wondering, i don’t want to buy a kit and have to follow a design and colors put in one, I’d like to choose my own colors, so if I bought the disc, which I assume comes with the instruction book your showing, and then my own beads and cotton (I’ve already got bobbins and a weight) then would I be able to follow this design along with this video ok ? I’m thinking yes, but I’d rather check than feel like an idiot because I didn’t ! Doing an order atm so a reply in the next day or so would be awesome 🙏😍👍

    I am having trouble with the tape staying adhered to the bobbin. I keep losing my beads!!! I tried masking tape and sticking the cord through the hole in the bobbin and taping it to the outside as well as to the inside. I think the bobbins are too waxy or something. Any other tips to keep the cord from slipping out? Even with the beads tucked inside the bobbin I am still having trouble with the bobbin getting too long.

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tape is really my best trick, maybe try a little packaging tape? Other then that, you could try cutting longer lengths of cord and seeing if having a greater amount of cord wound around the interior of the bobbin helps. A lot of people like to kumihimo with satin rattail and thicker cords, which do not present the problem of slipping so much, it is because we are using such a thin cord and the beads are heavy that the bobbin slips a little.

    Hi there, I am just starting out with Kumihimo. I pretty much understand everything except when you mention
    measuring 48 inches and then 3 x 21 inches can you please clarify thanks

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the consfusion. I like to be extra cautious when cutting my lengths of cord for a kumihimo braid so I cut each length to 48". So 8 lengths of cord, 48 inches each. I think the 21 came into play because I was mentioning that usually when doing non-beaded Kumihimo the formula for how much cord to cut is 3" of cord for every 1 inch of finished bracelet you want. So if you want a 7 inch bracelet you would times 7 by 3 and end up needing to use 21 inches of cord per length. But because it is beaded kumihimo you would need more cord and then you also need to allow for extra cord to knot at the beginning and extra cord at the end so I suggested using 48 inches per length.

    Won't the tape slip off eventually? Why not just use the naked braided cord?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +beccity98 The tape helps to secure the cord so you can then insert the end into the finding. If you use enough glue and it reaches the exposed cord (where you cut through the tape) then your bracelet will be secure. If you just used the naked braided cord, it would all unravel before you could push it into the finding.

    Where can I get the clasp for the kumihimo bracelet

  • @Kittehz1
    @Kittehz1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I seem to sometimes end up with spaces in my bracelets where the string shows, sometimes it happens, sometimes not! Could it be my tension? Or possibly irregularly shaped beads??

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's most likely the tension. Make sure the braid sits taught at the disk and there is no slack beneath the disk. Sometimes just giving it a little adjustment as you work can help.

    I received my kit yesterday and just pulled my first kumihimo bracelet off the wheel. My question is about tension. I can see the thread between the beads, but in your video it look like on a very small amount of thread is visible, if any. Is there a way to get my beads closer together in the final bracelet?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Up close, you can see some threads between my beads but if you feel like you are seeing more then what should be there, it is probably just that your threads are a little loose. To keep them tighter as you braid, make sure that there is not a lot of slack between the number slot in the disk (like the 32 slot, 16 slot, etc.) and your braiding feed down through the middle hole. If there is a lot of wiggle room, you might end up with a braid that is looser and then you will see more threads. Did you make a kumihimo weight for yourself or do you have a premade one? This might also help with your tension.

    Question?Why leave the tape on?Yes I know you glued it but in my experience when the clasps breaks its normally just the end you glued in that comes out because of the tape!So really just confused as to why leave it on?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      With this style of clasp we just found it a pain to get the braid into the hole without the tape in place. With enough E6000 it will wick into the braid through the top and give a good hold. We've still got these bracelets in the design space 3 years later and they've put up with light wear and a bunch of different photography sessions quite nicely. Taking the tape off isn't a bad idea if you have a good touch for getting the braid into tight spaces, we just haven't found it necessary with this combination of findings and glue.

    • @natural4lifemiss
      @natural4lifemiss 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks i wont be doing the tape then.

  • @nakishkah
    @nakishkah 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the tape used to bulk up the cord to fit the end cap? Aren't you concerned that the braid will come free of the tape after it's glued in? I've just completed one of these bracelets and am ready to attach the clasps so I really am curious as to the most secure method of attachment.

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you add enough glue so that the exposed ends are covered in the glue, then your bond should be secure. Be fairly generous with your glue to make sure you to get some of the actual tails in the glue in addition to just the tape. I hope this helps!

    • @OfficiallyKateandFree
      @OfficiallyKateandFree 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I want to add a charm to a bracelet, I use the round toggle clasp (it's widely available in most places). I add two small jump rings on either side of the toggles, and add my charm to the closed circle side of the toggle.. I hope that is explained well enough for you!

    Thanks so much for your wonderful videos! My bracelets using 8/0 beads turn out great. When I use the bigger 6/0 bead I find that the braid wants to go in a spiral and it doesn't look round like. Do you have any suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong? I am using the supplies that I bought from Beaholique. Thanks!

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Cathy Milson Hmmm... that is very curious. I think the spiraling might have to do with your thread tension and this could be because the 6/0's create larger gaps between beads. My only suggestion would be to keep practicing but if you have used 8/0's and the bracelets turn out well, I think you have the hang of it. It sounds strange, but maybe try a little looser tension and see what happens?

    • @beccity98
      @beccity98 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Cathy Milson You might need to use a larger diameter cord. I was looking into how to use smaller beads, and found this website, and the blogger has experimented with many different sizes of beads and cords, and has the best cord for each size. topcenter.typepad.com/blog/2014/09/matching-cord-and-beads.html (Supposedly. I haven't tried this technique yet at all, so I don't know how accurate her experiment is.)

    If a person was going to make these braclets to sell at a craft show. The kit costs 18 and it takes 1-2 hours to make.....What would a person need to sell them for?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! In the long run, if you are making these to sell, the cost will be far less then $18. With the kit you get the disk and bobbins, so when you go to reorder supplies, you will not need to buy these again. Also the cord included in the kit will make you at least 3 bracelets and you will have leftover beads too. Everyone has a different way of working out their prices, I wrote a blog article about selling your jewelry back in September, here is the link: www.beadersblog.com/2013/09/tips-for-selling-your-handmade-jewelry.html If you scroll down, you will see a section on pricing. I hope this helps!

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The number of seed beads needed per bobbin will depend on how long you want your bracelet to be. I would start with 60 on each bobbin and then you can always add more as needed.
