Even after 7 months I still have much to learn and I practice every day. Don't get discouraged and keep playing! I only want for the community to grow. Cheers!
He explained it pretty thoroughly, but I'll try to explain it again. Imagine Guile's cr.LP > cr. MP. It's a 1-frame link (if I'm not wrong). If you P-link that MP, your chances of landing the link will be twice as high. That's basically what you'd use it for.
Just picked up a TE stick as a Xmas present to myself, and your videos have sure helped make the transition over to a stick a lot less painful. Thanks for breaking this down, great work chief!

Capcom should of at least taught us or tell us this concept before they mysteriously introduced it. Plinking is a very hard concept to learn, even to implement into versus. This is how all the high level players do those flashy combos, and I was never aware of this concept until recently. Just shows how much the fighting community (even devs) care about their players. But this video was very helpful. It was satisfying to be able to do Akuma low tatsu sweep and Guile low low mid special. Good Job
I was really struggling with plinking, this tutorial laid it out perfectly for me. I was under the impression that you had to hit your input once and then hit two other buttons.
Yup, it's an awesome community. Buying an arcade stick doesn't make you a better player, but, like you said, plinking probably would be difficult with the control. I'm getting used to my stick so far and I definitely feel more comfortable.

Just a quick explanation on why you can't mash 2 frames in a row: The game reads your inputs at 60 frames per second. So it reads it on one frame and if it reads the same input on the next frame obviously the game thinks you're holding the button down. Which is why the turbo on the TEs is 20 times per second (every 3 frames) and the slower turbo is 10 times per second (every 6 frames). If you were pressing a button every frame the game would read it as you holding the button down.
well thats also true, still though I've been playing pad all my life... but when I finally got my stick.. and after 9 months, I finally perfected it. I cant do 50% of what I do on pad. Pads are probably better for movement control, and 100% execution. However if you want to long combos and plinking. I'd definitly recommened a stick. Yes you could somehow adapt to the pad and still be able to perform as good as the stick, however at some point. getting stick always feel cool and much more fun.
@TheMourtallah the only thing you cant plink with a pad is hard kick so i think its enough IMO. about the inputs. its kinda strange with a pad to plink. you have to press 2 buttons almost simultaneosly to do the right input. go to training mode and try just to plink without a combo. you know how it is supposed to look like

However, because of wing controllers, it's difficult to plink anything worth plinking with the 4 face buttons with only your thumb. I mean, all you can really plink is lk~lp, but that has to be crouching (for this game anyway). Plinking is more practical with Heavy Punch/Kick, where you will hit a trigger button and a face button.
hold down, press medium punch and light punch slightly apart 2x, then let go of the joystick, press medium punch and light punch slightly apart, and execute dragon kick immediately. i think you will hear a *thud-thud* very quickly if you execute a plink correctly.
@MoTheF3ar if you don't see it, most of the time they never heard of plinking or they can't figure it out. You will see it done pretty much in every local, national, and global meet/tourney.
@SFCatgirlFanatic it depends on how you hold the pad. If you hit the buttons with your thumb then it can be difficult. If you hit the buttons with your pointer and middle, then plinking isn't that hard.
Plinking is the same on tekken. I was trying to do kings grab combos and what I found out was you can hold down one button and while you the button down, press another and it will come out a single into a double as if you press them both at the same time.
I think thats closer to buffering then plinking, plinking in tekken would be similiar to starting his ten hit combos then tholding down one button and then hitting another to trick the game into you hitting 2 buttons. Same trick is available in street fighter with characters with multiple ex specials of the same move like Juri and decapre, you just use PPP and KKK with another k or p instead.
Omg.. all this time I thought I was noob for struggling to do 1 link combos all this time. I've been doing it with a controller. I don't have a fight stick but I want one now... I heard SFV doesn't have plinking anymore (due to the 3 frame input combo)
Honestly, I have both a stick and a mad catz fight pad and I prefer the fight pad at the end of the day. I feel like i'm more creative with it personally. I gave the stick a try. I put about a month into it but i've been playing on a pad pretty much since I was wearing diapers so I feel like it's counter intuitive for me to learn all over again when I can focus on being unpredictable. I mean even with blanka I roll my thumb from light to hard punch and back to piano so its doable.
Is this xbox version of game? Plinking works on pc version too right? And for a perfect plinking you need to press 2 buttons one after another wiht only 1 frame interval? In other words really fast, as if you re pressing them at the same time? If i see 3 buttons input after trying plinking then i made it correctly?Also one last question; when you try combos you start to use plinking when first hit animation about to end? Or you start it in middle of first hit's animation?

The timing needs you to do it in 1/60th of a second.This just doubles the input within one move, meaning if you plink Hp with mp the game will register 2 hps even though one will come out, and since you usually plink faster than when you don't the move will come out.It really has nothing to do with mashing.

I'm wondering about the arcade stick thing as well.. Do you need one to be good at this game? I don't know if plinking will work so well on a PS3 controller as compared to an arcade stick. You said you can't plink light punch, but you can. If you re-wjre the "back" or "select" button to one of the 8 main input buttons, you can plink a jab with that and it registers as taking 0 frames to perform. Top players are very aware and on top of this.
I'm trying to do a 2 hit combo from crouching light to crouching medium kick. The combo never registers for me with or without plinking. Appreciate any help.

Somebody was criticizing their joystick in an amazon review because they said that in training, it sometimes says that he pressed the button twice (like it's supposed to when you plink) when he actually only pressed it once. The morale of the story: you don't want to get your arcade stick reviews from scrubs.

I was trying to do the hyper grav loop and I heard that I had to plink H, H. This video has helped me massively and now I can do it.

U can plink lp... rewire the select button to one of the far right buttons and it has lower priority than lp

I think planking is a reaction to negative edge and buffering combined in a weird freak but amazing accident

Light punch does takes priority over a back input.

You actually can P-link light punch, all though it's not necessarily, "easy".
To do this, you press Back/Select and LP.

how do you check what combos are 1 frames links is it the recover of the first hit and the startup of the second
@iLuvSayuki Cant you try that yoourself..? Just buffer the dp anyway while you try to get it to not chain... it'll eventually come.
